The Brownlow - the Oscars of Australian sport - didn't disappoint.

This year we saw more pearls, pony tails and pant suits on the red carpet than a Saturday Night Fever cosplay meeting.

Brownlow 2016: A wet red carpet favours beading and black

While some prepared and others a day, the 2016 Brownlow red carpet saw WAGs sticking with familiar personal designers.

Here's who did it best...

BEST DRESSED

NADIA BARTEL: She took a risk and it paid off. The wife of Jimmy Bartel shone on the red carpet in a J'Aton jumpsuit. The AFL's best and fairest was her unofficial, yet successful, audition to become the fourth member of the Bee Gees.

MOANA HOPE and SUSAN ALBERTI: If there were a Brownlow for best dressed, best hair, best shawl, best everything, Western Bulldogs vice-president Susan Alberti and star of the AFLW Moana Hope are the Michael Voss and James Hird of '96.

ANNIE NOLA: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman wearing a suit to the Brownlow must be in want of three votes for best dressed, which is what Annie Nola, partner of Western Bulldogs star Liam Picken, gets for this Carl Nave, Diana Keaton-inspired number.

KELSEY TOMKINS: The partner of Adam Treloar of Collingwood, wore sleeves with more bells than St Paul's Cathedral by Suzanne Harward.

ALEX PENDLEBURY: She just opened a gym so it's only fitting the wife of Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury donned some activewear. Her sophisticated gown was by Jane Hill, not Lorna Jane.

MOST CREATIVE

JORDAN ABLETT - WARRIOR PRINCESS: The wife of Gold Coast Suns star Gary Ablett Jr. came from her year six netball grand final where she, dressed head-to-toe by J'Aton, took home the inaugural best bloomers award.

MARDI DANGERFIELD: Dress by Georgia Young Couture, hair by Ashy Bines.

BRIT DAVIS: The anatomy of Joel Selwood's partner's gown is as follows: Upstairs by Jason Grech, downstairs the failed creations of Zumbo's Just Desserts.

GEORGIE WILLIAMS: Partner of GWS Dylan Shiel shone in Sant Elia wearing the pantone colour of 2017: three-day old chantilly cream.

JESSIE HABERMANN: Partner of Carlton skipper Marc Murphy in an homage to Bridget Jones' blue soup by Oglia Loro Couture.
