The Silverliner V is an electric railcar designed and built by Hyundai Rotem for the SEPTA Regional Rail system and is now being offered to other commuter rail providers with Denver's RTD being the second purchaser. This is the fifth generation railcar in the Silverliner family of single level EMUs. 735, 736, 871-872 are specifically for use on the Wilmington/Newark line. 821-822 are reserved for use on the Warminster line.
The cars feature expanded interiors and windows, additional entrances and screens used to display information about the service. They are all ADA compliant and meet Federal Railroad Administration safety requirements.
SEPTA had ordered a total of 120 of the cars at a cost of $274 million; the first cars arrived in the United States on 28 February 2010 from South Korea, where they were manufactured by Hyundai Rotem. The cars are built in South Korea and final assembly takes place in South Philadelphia. The cars entered revenue service on 29 October 2010 and all 120 were to be completed by the end of 2011. However, due to delays that were reportedly to last until mid-2012, SEPTA is owed millions in fines for the overdue equipment.
Hyundai Rotem is a South Korean company manufacturing rolling stock, defense products and plant equipment. It is part of the Hyundai Motor Group. Its name was changed to the current one from Rotem on December 2007, and later changed to Hyundai Rotem to reflect its owner.
The company was founded in 1999 as Korea Rolling Stock Corporation (KOROS), the result of merger between then three major rolling stock divisions of Hanjin Heavy Industries, Daewoo Heavy Industries and Hyundai Precision & Industries. The company subsequently changed its name to Railroading Technology System, or Rotem, on 1 January 2002. It adopted its current name in December 2007 to reflect its current owner. Hyundai Rotem currently employs 3,800 and exported to 29 countries worldwide.
Notable projects include supplying most of South Korea's rolling stock, which include Korail's KTX high speed trains, Electric multiple units, and Electric locomotives. Other products in South Korea includes supplying all of Seoul Metro, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit, and Shinbundang Line's Electric multiple units. International products include Hong Kong MTR's K-Stocks, commuter EMUs for Taiwan, trains for the New Delhi Metro, and automated trains for the Canada Line between downtown Vancouver and Richmond in British Columbia, Canada. They are also to supply the Silverliner V commuter trains for SEPTA Regional Rail in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The Philippine National Railways have partnered with Hyundai Rotem to upgrade and construct its train and stations in the Luzon island for convenience and fast transportation; the trains have been delivered and are currently in service.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a regional public transportation authority that operates various forms of public transit services—bus, subway and elevated rail, commuter rail, light rail and electric trolleybus—that serve 3.9 million people in five counties in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. SEPTA also manages construction projects that maintain, replace, and expand infrastructure and rolling stock.
SEPTA is the major transit provider for Philadelphia and its suburbs in Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties. SEPTA is a state created authority and the majority of its board is appointed by the five Pennsylvania counties it serves. While several SEPTA commuter rail lines terminate in Delaware and New Jersey, additional service to Philadelphia from those states is provided by other agencies: the PATCO Speedline from Camden County, New Jersey is run by the Delaware River Port Authority, a bi-state agency, New Jersey Transit operates many bus lines and a commuter rail line to Center City, Philadelphia; and DART First State runs feeder lines to SEPTA stations in Delaware.
30th Street may refer to:
The 30th Street Station is the main railroad station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States and one of the seven stations in Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's (SEPTA) Center City fare zone. It is also a major stop on Amtrak's (National Railroad Passenger Corporation) Northeast and Keystone Corridors.
The station's address is 2955 Market Street. It sits across from the former United States Post Office-Main Branch. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Amtrak's code for the station is PHL. Its IATA Airport Code is ZFV on United because Amtrak's service to Newark Liberty International Airport is codeshared with United Airlines.
Of the 24 Pennsylvania stations served by Amtrak, the 30th Street Station was by far the busiest for the Fiscal Year 2013, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 11,303 passengers daily (almost twice the number of passengers of the other 23 Pennsylvania stations combined) and is Amtrak's overall 3rd-busiest station.
We are afforded this rare view courtesy of the engineer of this train. Watch as he skillfully brings the train to a smooth stop from 95 mph into Levittown and then accelerate at full throttle out of the station, making 95 mph just past Grundy Interlocking. With the Silverliner Vs capable of starting with an acceleration of 3.0 mph/s and holding that acceleration rate to 30 mph, it makes for a fun and enjoyable ride. Enjoy =) Full length cab ride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jy3aPnZ_7A

We'll also catch a set on the Warminster line. These all operate in "express" service, meaning they do not make all the stops along the SEPTA route. Check out SEPTA.org to find out when the Silverliner V's run near you!

Sit back and watch the entire ride between Philadelphia and Newark, DE from the front of a SEPTA Silverliner V! Enjoy meets with Acela trains, see your favorite spots from a new perspective, or just sit back and enjoy the ride! After two years and three or four unsuccessful attempts, I finally caught a Silverliner V from Philadelphia to Newark, DE to film a Silverliner V Ride on the lower portion of SEPTA's share of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. I hope you enjoy this squeal to my most popular video, the Trenton-Philly ride (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZy8W_DTag4). I know many of you have requested a second ride after the first video. I was amazed at the positive feedback and reception that the first video received from all over the world! So I am happy to present to you the second ful...
