The West Bank (Arabic: الضفة الغربية aḍ-Ḍiffah l-Ġarbiyyah; Hebrew: הגדה המערבית, HaGadah HaMa'aravit) or Cisjordan is a landlocked territory near the Mediterranean coast of Western Asia, forming the bulk of the Palestinian territories and the State of Palestine. The West Bank shares boundaries (demarcated by the Jordanian-Israeli armistice of 1949) to the west, north, and south with the state of Israel, and to the east, across the Jordan River, with Jordan. The West Bank also contains a significant section of the western Dead Sea shore.
The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has a land area of 5,640 km2 plus a water area of 220 km2, consisting of the northwest quarter of the Dead Sea. It has an estimated population of 2,676,740 (July 2013). More than 80%, about 2,800,000, are Palestinian Arabs, and approximately 500,000 are Jewish Israelis living in the West Bank, including about 192,000 in East Jerusalem, in Israeli settlements, built on the 43% of the West Bank which Israel has allocated to local settler councils. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. The International Court of Justice advisory ruling (2004) concluded that events that came after the 1967 occupation of the West Bank by Israel, including the Jerusalem Law, Israel's peace treaty with Jordan and the Oslo Accords, did not change the status of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as occupied territory with Israel as the occupying power.

We traveled to the largest refugee camp in the West Bank to meet some of the Palestinian youth, and to find out if the Palestinian Authority's commitment to non-violent struggle against the occupying Israelis was a national consensus. While there, we experienced the extremes of violent and non-violent protests, from hunger strikers to jihadists. It matters little what they are called - whether walls, barriers or fences - the intention is the same: to redefine human relations into 'us' and 'them'. The Walls of Shame series is about division, and about the barriers that men erect, in calculation or desperation, to separate themselves from others, or others from them. When diplomacy and conciliation fail, this is the alternative, and not since medieval times have walls been so in demand around the world. Tens of new walls, barriers and fences are currently being built, while old ones are being renovated. And there are many types: barriers between countries, walls around cities and fences that zigzag through neighbourhoods. This series will look at four examples of new and extended walls around the world. It will examine the live...

In the wake of recent terror attacks in Europe — several of which targeted Jewish institutions — some politicians and religious leaders have predicted an exodus of Jewish people from the continent. In some ways, the numbers stack up. Last year, a record 8,000 Jews arrived in Israel from France — with another 15,000 coming from Eastern Europe. But some critics argue that reports of Jewish flight are overblown; they accuse Israel of taking advantage of fears in Europe to attract new immigrants and serve the interests of the Israeli state. “We are preparing and calling for the absorption of mass immigration from Europe,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in February 2015. “I would like to tell all European Jews and all Jews wherever they are: Israel is the home of every Jew.” ...

In response to last year's Gaza conflict, the Israeli government announced the construction of further settlements in the West Bank — a move condemned by the international community for escalating tensions that were already highly fraught. The expansion of the settlements has consumed privately owned Palestinian land, causing the destruction of Palestinian homes, produce, and livelihoods. Despite Israeli settlements taking up only one percent of land in the West Bank, they now exert control over 42 percent, with settlement boundaries often 10 times larger than the settlements themselves. VICE News traveled to the West Bank to speak to displaced Palestinians and activists who are trying desperately to address the grievances that boiled over with such horrific consequences in 2014. The latest spasm of violence in Israel has left seven Israelis and at least 30 Palestinians dead. On Wednesday, a day when at least two stabbing attacks on Israeli Jews were reported, VICE News correspondent Aris Roussinos traveled to the West Bank to see if the apparently leaderless youth-led revolt has spiraled into the Third Intifada. Is economic prosperity the future of peace between the Palestinians and Israel? A multimillionaire Palestinian-American businessman thinks so. He's raised $1 billion to build Rawabi, a brand-new Palestinian city on the West Bank with the hope that it will create prosperity and that peace will follow.

Israel has dismissed US condemnation of a new housing project it intends to build in the occupied West Bank. The US says the project will create a new settlement "deep in the West Bank" and undermine a two-state solution. The Israeli Foreign Ministry rejected the criticism, saying the 98 housing units approved in Shilo do not constitute a "new settlement.” Subscribe to us on Youtube: https://goo.gl/lP12gA Download for IOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cctvnews-app/id922456579?l=zh&ls;=1&mt;=8 Download for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imib.cctv Follow us on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cctvnewschina Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTVNEWS Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CCTVNEWSbeijing Tumblr: http://cctvnews.tumblr.com/ Weibo: http://weibo.com/cct...

West Bank Story is a musical comedy about David, an Israeli soldier, and Fatima, a Palestinian fast food cashier - an unlikely couple who fall in love amidst the animosity of their families' dueling falafel stands in the West Bank. Tensions mount when the Kosher King's new pastry machine juts onto Hummus Hut property. The Palestinians ruin the machine and the Israelis respond by building a wall between the two eating establishments. The couple professes their love for each other, triggering a chain of events that destroys both restaurants and forces all to find common ground in an effort to rebuild, planting a seed of hope. ****************************** Why did you make the film?

reThis 35 minute film presents the views of three Palestinians living in the Dheisheh refugee camp in the West Bank. The Dheisheh camp was established in 1949 within the municipal boundaries of Bethlehem on 430 dunums. It has a registered population of 12,045 of which approximately 6,000 are children. The camp's residents were particularly active during the intifadah. The Israeli authorities built a fence around the camp and a metal turnstile for the main entrance, which were in place for almost eight years to prevent stone throwing at passing Israeli cars on the main Jerusalem-Hebron road. In 1995, the camp came under Palestinian Authority control, and the fence has since been removed. The film offers tours of a disused Israeli military base, the Dheisheh camp and the Ibdaa (Innovation) c...

Mother held back her tears as she said goodbye
She must be so proud of me
It's not everyday your son, proves he's not afraid to die
I washed my hands and packed my clothes
The brightest whites from head to toe
Hopped on a bus that left Amman
For the most important hajj I'd ever been on
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go we'll have our fun
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go tell everyone
She must be so proud of me
I had everything in place I had my objectives in mind
I had planned so carefully
Reasons not to be here well
I heard them all
But none of them could change my mind
It's drastic measures for drastic times
The bus I rode through Jerusalem
Was the shortest hajj I've ever been on
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go we'll have our fun
Lets go down to the West Bank
Lets go tell everyone
We're going down and you know we're going down
