Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time (i.e., decades to millions of years). Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions (i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events). Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions. Certain human activities have also been identified as significant causes of recent climate change, often referred to as "global warming".
Scientists actively work to understand past and future climate by using observations and theoretical models. A climate record—extending deep into the Earth's past—has been assembled, and continues to be built up, based on geological evidence from borehole temperature profiles, cores removed from deep accumulations of ice, floral and faunal records, glacial and periglacial processes, stable-isotope and other analyses of sediment layers, and records of past sea levels. More recent data are provided by the instrumental record. General circulation models, based on the physical sciences, are often used in theoretical approaches to match past climate data, make future projections, and link causes and effects in climate change.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international environmental treaty negotiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), informally known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro from 3 to 14 June 1992. The objective of the treaty is to "stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system". The treaty itself set no binding limits on greenhouse gas emissions for individual countries and contains no enforcement mechanisms. In that sense, the treaty is considered legally non-binding. Instead, the treaty provides a framework for negotiating specific international treaties (called "protocols") that may set binding limits on gr...

Ms. Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Mexico's former Secretary of Foreign Affairs (2006-2012) and the Chair of COP16, spoke at UNU on 5 July 2010 on Mexico's preparations for the COP16 climate summit held in Cancún later that year. Ms. Espinosa's lecture followed former Mexican President Felipe Calderón's February 2010 U Thant Distinguished Lecture at UNU Headquarters in which the President emphasized the need to rebuild confidence and trust following the disappointing COP15 climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009. In her lecture, Ms. Espinosa stressed the need for inclusive dialogue, especially with least developed countries, island states, and the private sector, as a key component in the quest for a binding agreement in Cancún.

With climate deals signed, the world is now gearing up for action. The 22nd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) aims to take global action forward on achieving the priorities of the Paris Agreement, which comes into effect just days before the event to be held from 7-18 November 2016 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Forests and landscapes are set to play a key role in the new global climate and development agenda. The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) brings the latest scientific research, insights and experiences to discussions held alongside the negotiations. Marrakech is gearing up for the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – the Moroccan city will host the forum from November 7 to 18. Morocco, which regards hosting the historic UN Summit as a significant honor, started to make arrangements for the event as soon as the closing ceremony of COP21 in Paris last year was over. The Marrakech Conference will follow up on the COP21 initiative, aiming to translate many decisions from the Paris Agreement into reality, making all member countries accountable for their carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Get your free audiobook or ebook: http://yazz.space/sabk/35/en/B00WTV0SLO/info This book considers what is needed for fairness in the decisions of the Unfccc. It analyses several principles of procedural fairness in order to develop practical policy measures for fair decision-making in the Unfccc. This includes measures that determine who should have a right to participate in its decisions, how these decisions should take place and what level of equality should exist between these actors. In doing so, it proposes that procedural fairness is a fundamental feature of a multilateral response to address climate change. By showing that procedural fairness is most likely to be achieved through the inclusive process of the Unfccc, it also shows that global efforts to address climate change should...

Berlin, 03.02.2014 - Climate change negotiating process: What happened in Warsaw and the way forward Lecture and Discussion with Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Moderation: Helmut K. Anheier
I'm not sure that I will be very well-suited
To the new post-climate change society
It bothers me
I'm not sure that I have the tools to deal
With the complete collapse of the modern world
I'd be rooted
I burn easily
And my feet get sore when I walk barefoot
It's pathetic
I'd last two seconds
I'm not sure that I'd have a chance in a half-drowned,
post-technological world
I'm not sure that I know enough about bush tucker
Or how to get water from cactuses
Aren't they prickly or something
I've got no Indigenous friends
And I'm sure they'd get sussed
If I tried to buddy up to them at this late stage
They'd be onto me
I get bored quickly
If I couldn't stare at a screen all day
I'd have no purpose
I'd be a vegetable
I'm not sure that I'd have a chance in a DIY, make-
your-own-fun world
Even allowing for the possibility
That it might not be exactly like Mad Max
You can be sure that there'd still be a healthy amount
Of fighting marauders off
And I'm not much good
At fighting marauders off
I learnt this at my year twelve formal
I'm not sure that I have the upper body strength
To cope with all the rowing in an ocean-based world
I'd be completely at sea
And my word-smithery would fall on deaf ears
With the people with hats made of sheep skulls
Then they'd kill me
I'm not sure that there'd be a place for a fey, bookish
technophile
In a physically challenging, nomadic, foraging,
