Jeep has revealed its long-awaited Compass SUV - and not much else.

The American brand has released three images of its new compact SUV to celebrate the start of production of the new model in Brazil. But the official details and a better look at the car won't be released until the 2016 Los Angeles motor show in November.

The Compass replaces both the current Compass and Patriot in the off-road brand's line-up and is reportedly all-new, featuring little carry-over from the old models. It fits between the city-sized Renegade and mid-size Cherokee.

The styling borrows heavily from the Grand Cherokee and includes classic Jeep cues including the seven-slot grille and angular lines.

"A truly global all-new compact SUV, the Jeep Compass will be produced with 17 fuel-efficient powertrain options for consumers in more than 100 countries around the world," Jeep's short statement read.

"The all-new Jeep Compass expands the brand's global reach with an unmatched combination of attributes that include legendary and best-in-class 4x4 off-road capability, advanded fuel-efficient powertrains, premium and authentic Jeep design, superior on-road driving dynamics, open-air freedom, and a host of safety and advanced technology offerings."

Jeep Australia have confirmed the new model will go on sale in Australia in late 2017 but the rest of the details remain under wraps.
