WA spud king Tony Galati gets a Mad Monday admirer

Steel caps. Stubbies. Singlet. Five o'clock shadow and mop of messy hair.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then South Bunbury Football Club Captain Matt Giacci must really love his spuds after dressing up as WA potato hero Tony Galati for his team's Mad Monday celebrations.

Who wears it better?

After the Tigers won the South West Football League's 2016 premiership - the club's 71st title - Mr Giacci thought there would be no better to way to mark the occasion than to slip on a DIY version of Mr Galati's distinctive work clobber and hair style.

Mr Galati has become something of a cult figure as the owner of the Spud Shed and long time battler for potato deregulation in WA, sometimes coming under fire for his work practises, such as being fined for illegal water use.

He's no stranger to fame though, having been greeted with a "rock star's welcome" when he opened a Spud Shed in Morely back in 2012, with many customers taking selfies with him.
