More rain, chance of hail but will Perth reach its September average?

Perth residents can expect to hear more rain - and maybe even hail - on the roof on Tuesday night and a wet weekend is also on the cards.

There was heavy rain in Perth's CBD on Tuesday afternoon, with 1.5 millimetres of rain recorded since 9am. More falls were forecast into Tuesday night, with the possibility of up to 8 millimetres for the day.

More rain on the way for Perth

There will be some sun on Thursday but the rain is set to come back just in time for the weekend.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Neil Bennett said Perth was on track to finish under the September rainfall average of 81.1 millimetres, with 65 millimetres of rain recorded to date.. 

The Bureau has set a 95 per cent chance of showers with the chance of a thunderstorm on Tuesday afternoon - but predicted a sunny day for Thursday.

Even still, don't pull out the singlet and shorts just yet as the rain will return just in time for the weekend, with showers predicted to linger into early next week.

Thursday: 5-20, Sunny. Light winds.

Friday: 8-19, High chance of showers.

Saturday: 13-19, Cloudy. Very high chance of showers.

Sunday: 10-18, Shower or two.
