Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Burmese: ကျိုက်ထီးရိုးဘုရား, pronounced: [tɕaiʔtʰíjó pʰəjá]; Mon: ကျာ်သိယဵု, [tɕaiʔ sɔeʔ jɜ̀], also known as Golden Rock) is a well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site in Mon State, Burma. It is a small pagoda (7.3 metres (24 ft)) built on the top of a granite boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees. According to legend, the Golden Rock itself is precariously perched on a strand of the Buddha's hair. The balancing rock seems to defy gravity, as it perpetually appears to be on the verge of rolling down the hill. The rock and the pagoda are at the top of Mt. Kyaiktiyo. It is the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in Burma after the Shwedagon Pagoda and the Mahamuni Pagoda. A glimpse of the "gravity defying" Golden Rock is believed to be enough of an inspiration for any person to turn to Buddhism.
In the Mon language, the word 'kyaik' (ကျာ်) means "pagoda" and 'yo' (ယဵု) means "to carry on the hermit's head". The word 'ithi' (ဣသိ in Mon (from Pali ရိသိ, risi) means "hermit". Thus, 'Kyaik-htiyo' means "pagoda upon a hermit's head".
Golden means made of, or relating to gold.

The most important places of pilgrimage in Buddhism are located in the Gangetic plains of Northern India and Southern Nepal, in the area between New Delhi and Rajgir. This is the area where Gautama Buddha lived and taught, and the main sites connected to his life are now important places of pilgrimage for both Buddhists and Hindus. However, many countries that are or were predominantly Buddhist have shrines and places which can be visited as a pilgrimage.
Gautama Buddha is said to have identified four sites most worthy of pilgrimage for his followers, saying that they would produce a feeling of spiritual urgency. These are:
In the later commentarial tradition, four other sites are also raised to a special status because Buddha had performed a certain miracle there. These four places, partly through the inclusion in this list of commentarial origin, became important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in ancient India, as the Attha-mahathanani (Pali for 'The Eight Great Places'). It is important to note, however, that some of these events do not occur in the Tipitaka and are thus purely commentarial.

www.globetrekker.nl Above the site of the Golden Rock arrived it was very busy, very nice so. It was also full moon and the Festival of Light, why were so many people. Entire families who were eating, to were chatting and of course the Buddha (in the form of the Golden Rock) were to worship.
Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, also known as Golden Rock is a small pagoda built on the top of a granite boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees. The journey is as facinating as the rock. It really is in the middle of nowhere, you take a 45 minute ride crammed onto the back of an old Nissan CM180 flatbed truck up the steep hill on a narrow switchback road (you can't fall out as you are jammed in so tight!). then you have a 30-50minute slog UP hill to the Rock, passed loads of stalls selling useful items for the pilgramage, or as a memento (such as LED powered snow globes, bamboo guns, which the young monks seem to love!) and food, your fellow pilgrims include Hetmits (you can see one of these dressed in brown with a strange plasic hat near the top, he's the guy with a bell), monks and...
My trip with Tisa to Myanmar in December 2015
A pilgrimage to Mt. Kyaiktiyo, Myanmar's Golden Rock | http://blog.wandr.me/ | Even as a tourist and not a pilgrim, a visit to Mount Kyaiktiyo is quite an experience. Also known as the "Golden Rock," the site is a major destination for Buddhist pilgrims and they come en masse, along with a fair number of tourists. The main place of worship is the massive boulder, precariously perched and, as legend has it, balanced by a hair of Buddha enshrined in the stupa atop the rock. The site is much larger than that, however, with many smaller temples surrounding the main one. Mt. Kyaiktiyo remain the Golden Rock because pilgrims are constantly applying gold leaf to the surface as part of their visit. They show up with small packets of the leaf, rubber-banded together in 10 or so pieces to the pack....

Wo oh oh
wo oh oh, wo oh oh oh
wo oh
Now baby I been thinking bout how you been acting strange
and baby I been thinking how so many things have changed
in my life, in my home, in my bed
said I remember how you used to love
How you used to love, you don't love no more
how you used to care, you don't care no more
that's alright, that's ok
drop the key on your way
catch a bus, ride the train
it doesn't matter just keep going
Now boy I can remember how I used to foot the bill
and yes I do regret the day I took your broke ass in
to my life, to my home, to my bed
said that I must have lost my head
I guess you thought that I'd let you walk on me like the floor
I gues you thought that you'd keep tracking dirt inside my door
you got it all wrong
it's been too long
all of the love is gone
now I'm singing you this song
How you used to love, you don't love no more
how you used to care, you don't care no more
that's alright, that's ok
drop the key on your way
grab a bus, ride the train
it doesn't matter just keep going
How you used to love, you don't love no more
how you used to care, you don't care no more
that's alright, that's ok
drop the keys on your way
grab a bus, ride the train
it doesn't matter just keep going
You must have thought that you were getting over for so long
but I was giving you the chance to make things right from being so wrong
but your time is up, took too long, I don't wanna hear it
get your shirt, shoes, pants and draws up from outta here
Oh oh oh oh
wo oh ooh wo
woo woo oh
Like you used to love, you don't love no more
how you used to care, you don't care no more
that's alright, that's ok
drop the keys on your way
grab a bus, ride the train
it doesn't matter just keep going
How you used to love, you don't love no more
how you used to care, you don't care no more
that's alright, that's ok
drop the keys on your way
grab a bus, ride the train
it doesn't matter just keep going
