Official Burmese publications noted that “Myanmar” and “
Yangon” in the country were ancestral names that have been renamed by the
British colonial authorities, when they came to Myanmar in the late
19th century. Both names refer to the main ethnic group in the country, and in fact do not contradict each other. In
2006, the new official name (Myanmar) was adopted in the UN. However, the decision to rename the state has not been approved by the
Parliament, as provided by the
Constitution.
The new official name is considered by the Burmese opposition and some countries of the world – is illegal. That’s why this country has two different names simultaneously.
3. In Myanmar, lives the tribe, in which all women specifically lengthen the neck at 25-30 cm. On the territory of Myanmar (and
Thailand) lives the tribe of
Padaung. Padaung tribe has an ancient tradition – women of this tribe wear rings on their necks. The first ring is worn by a girl at 5 years old, then the rings are added throughout life and can achieve the total weight of 9 kg.
