Selling England by the Pound is the fifth studio album from the English progressive rock band Genesis, released in October 1973 on Charisma Records. It reached number 3 in the UK and number 70 in the U.S. A single from the album, "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" was released in February 1974 and became the band's first top 30 hit in the UK.
The album was recorded in August 1973 following the tour supporting the previous album, Foxtrot. The group set aside a short period of time to write new material, which covered a number of themes, including the loss of English folk culture and an increased American influence, which was reflected in the title. Following the album's release, the group set out on tour, where they drew an enthusiastic reception from fans.
Critics and the band have given mixed opinions of the album, though guitarist Steve Hackett has said it is his favourite Genesis record. The album has continued to sell and has reached Gold certification by the British Phonographic Industry and the Recording Industry Association of America. It was remastered for CD in 1994 and 2007. Several of the album tracks became fan favourites and featured as a regular part of the band's live setlist into the 1980s.
Steve Hackett plays the Genesis song "After the Ordeal" from the Genesis album "Selling England by the Pound" from 1973. This was filmed during the Atlanta stop of his Spring 2016 tour of the US.
It was the "Chord Change" collab that eventually make this one happen as well. Axel (keyboardist) is from Buenos Aires, like me. I already knew him through my ex-bandmates, Gogui and Nico, the ones who played "All Along The Watchtower" live with me. In fact, we also played "Chord Change" live during that same show in Tigre, the place where we come from. Nico came with the proposal after listening to Axel´s band playing the instrumental song by Camel. So when its virtual cover was complete, I shared it with him on Facebook. He really liked it and was interested in being part of a collab cover. I told him to choose a song. I suggested something by Genesis cause I already knew he was a huge fan of the band. In the end we decided that "After The Ordeal", the only instrumental from Selling Engl...
In which John Green teaches you about Reconstruction. After the divisive, destructive Civil War, Abraham Lincoln had a plan to reconcile the country and make it whole again. Then he got shot, Andrew Johnson took over, and the disagreements between Johnson and Congress ensured that Reconstruction would fail. The election of 1876 made the whole thing even more of a mess, and the country called it off, leaving the nation still very divided. John will talk about the gains made by African-Americans in the years after the Civil War, and how they lost those gains almost immediately when Reconstruction stopped. You'll learn about the Freedman's Bureau, the 14th and 15th amendments, and the disastrous election of 1876. John will explore the goals of Reconstruction, the successes and ultimate failur...

A Louisiana man who spent nearly three decades on death row has walked free, after prosecutors asked a judge to set aside his first-degree murder conviction and death sentence, citing new evidence in the case that exonerated him. Glenn Ford, 64, was convicted by an all-white jury for the 1983 robbery and murder of Isadore Rozeman, a 56-year-old Shreveport watchmaker, who was found shot dead behind the counter of his jewellery shop. Al Jazeera's Shihab Rattansi reports from Washington.
