HERO Magazine was an American glossy bimonthly gay magazine co-founded in 1997 by Sam Jensen Page and Paul Horne. The magazine stopped publication in January 2002. It was based in Los Angeles.
The magazine rode the wave of the "mainstreaming" of gay culture and was the first gay magazine to be classified as "highly recommended" by Library Journal. It published the first automotive column in a national gay magazine, the first gay man's wedding guide, etc. HERO turned away from the "sex sells" attitude of many other gay publications, and did not accept adult or tobacco advertising. The magazine was also more inclusive of couples and men over 40 than other gay men's magazines at the time.
After fast growth in its first 3 years, the magazine's financial backing was frozen after September 11, 2001, and the publication ceased operations in January 2002. Parent company HERO Media continues to develop other online and print publications, including SpaTravelGuy.com.
Suikoden V (Japanese: 幻想水滸伝V, Hepburn: Gensō Suikoden Faibu, (listen) ) is a role-playing video game developed by Konami and Hudson Soft and published by Konami for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console and the fifth main installment of the Suikoden video game series. It was released in 2006, and has sold around 200,000 copies in Japan.
Loosely based on a classical Chinese novel, Shui Hu Zhuan by Shi Nai'an, Suikoden V centers on the political struggles of the Queendom of Falena, and takes place 6 in-universe years before the events of the first Suikoden. The player controls the Prince of Falena and travels the world, acquiring allies and dealing with the problems of the nation. The game features a vast array of characters, with over sixty characters usable in combat and many more able to help or hinder the Prince in a variety of ways.
Suikoden V is a role-playing video game and thus features many of the usual traits. The player controls the Prince and travels with him around the world map, advancing the plot by completing tasks and talking with other characters. The Prince can also recruit new characters to his cause, which often involves a short sidequest. In towns, the player can gather information, sharpen character's weaponry, learn new skills, and buy equipment; wilderness areas generally feature random encounters with monsters.
Galleon (Galleon: Islands of Mystery in the U.S. version) is an action-adventure game developed by Toby Gard and Confounding Factor and released by Square Enix Europe and Atlus for Xbox and mobile phones (the latter as Galleon: Dawn) in 2004.
Galleon follows the exploits of Captain Rhama who pursues a villain from island to island. It is set in an unspecified historical era in which piracy was active.
Announced in Edge in 1997, the game went through various incarnations and publishers. As the original designer of Lara Croft, Toby Gard left Core Design shortly after the first Tomb Raider game was released. Galleon was to be his first independent title following the original Tomb Raider. Galleon was delayed and eventually ported from the original PlayStation to the Dreamcast to the GameCube (as Galleon: Islands of Mystery) and eventually to the Xbox. The graphical style of the game was intended to have a comic book feel as well as being influenced by Ray Harryhausen's Sinbad films and Burt Lancaster vehicles. Gard has since returned to Eidos Interactive as a design consultant for the Tomb Raider franchise. The soundtrack was originally composed by Lee Nicklen, though due to breach of contract and the publishers not paying him, the music is now available for free under the GNU license.
Aircraft camouflage is the use of camouflage, typically in the form of light and color patterns, applied to military aircraft to make them more difficult to see on the ground, in the air, or to make their speed, distance or attitude harder to determine. Military camouflage is highly dependent upon environmental conditions and is primarily effective against human observers, though some electronic visual acquisition systems can also be confused. It does not hinder radar location or heat-seeking electronics although the paints used may contain substances that can.
Camouflage colours and patterns are subject to considerable experimentation and theorizing, and most countries have explicit specifications as to their application that are sufficiently unique to make it possible to determine the intended operator in many cases even when no national insignia is visible. The colours and patterns have changed over time, both as new theories were tried, and as operational requirements changed. During and after World War II, the Yehudi lights project explored counter-illumination camouflage using lamps to increase the brightness of the aircraft to match the background. Recent experiments have looked at the use of light-emitting active camouflage systems which allow the colours and patterns to be changed to match the background.
Well I've been watching from the shadows
While you shook your fist at God
And screamed for all who listened
About how he's done you wrong
Why don't you put away your pistols
Climb down off your cross
Coz the battle's long been over
And the war is long since lost
And all those bridges that you've broken
Done burned down long ago
Coz you just had to be the superstar
Just had to be the hero
You just had to be the hero
Well I was there in the beginning
And I saw you choose your path
I watched your candle burning
And I knew it wouldn't last
Coz when experience comes knocking
Innocence will pass
And all that once seemed child-like
Is now ugly, crude and crass
And you wonder how you lost yourself
So many years ago
Coz you just had to be the superstar
Just had to be the hero
You just had to be the hero
Are you as angry on the inside
As you are on the surface
Been frontin' so long you've forgotten the purpose
Now there's a hole in the whole
Where your soul
Used to be
Well I've been watching from the shadows
While you shook your fist at God
And screamed for all who listened
About how he's done you wrong
Why don't you put away your pistols
Climb down off your cross
Coz the battle's long been over
And the war is long since lost
And now this old broken heart
Weeps for the one I used to know
Who just had to be the superstar
Just had to be the hero
You just had to be the hero
Why did you have to be the hero
