Assuming you don’t want a nuclear war breaking out, you belong with the vast majority of sane compassionate people on the planet. We all want peaceful coexistence and resolution of conflict. And yet recent events in Ukraine have made the possibility of the world sleepwalking into war between the nuclear powers of Russia and the US more real than ever. Why is this? Why are the state and corporate media of the US, EU and allied countries talking more of military ‘solutions’ than of the urgent need for diplomacy? If the vast majority don’t want war, why do so many people grudgingly accept that it might be ‘necessary’? All war is an insanity, but are we really willing to risk a war between the US and Russia, with the possibility of an apocalyptic escalation? Such a nuclear confrontation simply cannot be allowed to happen, whether by intention or ‘accident’.
The aim of this site is to provide alternative reports and viewpoints that challenge those of our mainstream media; to look at evidence from all sides, and consider the devastating consequences if US efforts to force its strategic control right up to Russia’s borders by fanning the conflict with new arms for the Ukrainian military are not urgently exchanged for a non-military permanent resolution.
But above all, we hope to inspire you to join and share widely a global wake up call on news creators and politicians at all levels, urging them to fulfil their role of reflecting and responding to the overwhelming public opposition to war, which persists despite the barrage of tunnel-vision politics and reporting that presents war as ‘acceptable’ and ‘unavoidable’. IT IS NOT.
Join with each ‘only one person’ involved to help exert a global wave of people pressure upwards to those in power to step back from war insanity to avoid causing more mass suffering and chaos, by instead insisting on talking and peaceful negotiation that all sane people want for one another to enjoy life together: “Jaw Jaw, not war, war”.
- Do we get the whole story from US/EU mainstream media?
- Why do we dismiss the Russian media viewpoint as ‘propaganda’ but take our own news as ‘unbiased’, against the evidence of experience? (e.g. Iraq)
- Good guys vs. Bad guys – which is which? Or is this over simplistic?
- As the war on Iraq was an ‘Oil war’, is this a ‘Gas war’?
- What is the relation between the Ukraine conflict and Russia’s role in Syria and Iran?

I’m just one person, what can I do?
“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.”

What/who exactly is Step-Back.org?
The Step-Back.org website was set up in 2013 by a group of friends with a joint interest in the media, specifically poor reporting that falsely justifies war. Our focus then was the growing drumbeat for military intervention in Syria by the US/UK and others. Now we’re expanding this focus to the current war in Ukraine.
