The International Space Station (ISS) is a space station, or a habitable artificial satellite, in low Earth orbit. Its first component launched into orbit in 1998, and the ISS is now the largest artificial body in orbit and can often be seen with the naked eye from Earth. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays, and other components. ISS components have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets as well as American Space Shuttles.
The ISS serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology, and other fields. The station is suited for the testing of spacecraft systems and equipment required for missions to the Moon and Mars. The ISS maintains an orbit with an altitude of between 330 and 435Â km (205 and 270Â mi) by means of reboost manoeuvres using the engines of the Zvezda module or visiting spacecraft. It completes 15.54Â orbits per day.
A space station, also known as an orbital station or an orbital space station, is a spacecraft capable of supporting a crew, which is designed to remain in space (most commonly as an artificial satellite in low Earth orbit) for an extended period of time and for other spacecraft to dock. A space station is distinguished from other spacecraft used for human spaceflight by lack of major propulsion or landing systems. Instead, other vehicles transport people and cargo to and from the station. As of September 2014 two space stations are in orbit: the International Space Station, which is permanently manned, and China's Tiangong-1 (which successfully launched on September 29, 2011), which is unmanned most of the time. Previous stations include the Almaz and Salyut series, Skylab and most recently Mir.
Today's space stations are research platforms, used to study the effects of long-term space flight on the human body as well as to provide platforms for greater number and length of scientific studies than available on other space vehicles. Each crew member staying aboard the station for weeks or months, but rarely more than a year. Most of the time crew remain at station but its not necessary that crew should have to be stay at station. Since the ill-fated flight of Soyuz 11 to Salyut 1, all manned spaceflight duration records have been set aboard space stations. The duration record for a single spaceflight is 437.7 days, set by Valeriy Polyakov aboard Mir from 1994 to 1995. As of 2013, three astronauts have completed single missions of over a year, all aboard Mir.
This educational video depicts an inside tour of the International Space Station and hosted by NASA Astronaut Sunita (Suni) Williams orbiting the earth in zero gravity. During the overview, Sunita explains the station's structure which is divided into two pressurized modules sections, the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS) and the United States Orbital Segment (USOS), which is shared by many nations but funded by NASA until 2024. Roscosmos (РоÑ?коÑ?моÑ?), the governmental body responsible for the space science program in Russia and general aerospace research, has endorsed the continued operation of ISS through 2024, but has proposed using elements of the Russian Orbital Segment to construct a new Russian space station called OPSEK. The ESA (European Space Agency) also uses the ISS for research an...

Cameras on the International Space Station captured new views of Hurricane Matthew Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. EDT from an altitude of 250 miles. Matthew raked the east coast of Florida earlier in the day as a Category 3 storm and continues on a northerly path toward northeastern Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. #ISS #HurricaneMatthew Credit: NASA
Cameras stationed aboard the International Space Station (ISS) captured the size and magnitude of Hurricane Matthew as it was travelling northwards over northeastern Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on Friday. The states of Florida and South Carolina, as well as parts of North Carolina and Georgia, declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the hurricane. At least six people have died on the southeast coast of the US. Hurricane Matthew already has caused mass damage in Haiti, killing more than 800 people, and destroying some 80 percent of homes in the country's Sud area. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs at least 350,000 people are in need of assistance. The International Space Station captured a unique view of massive Hurricane Matthew from 250 miles overhead.
Okay, so several people now noticed this from the last video I just put out about radio waves and space/ionosphere, etc. I can't believe I didn't even notice this myself when I was looking at this footage over and over again. (I was focused on the radio conversations I suppose) But once you stop and see it, man... It's VERY interesting.
Cameras outside the International Space Station captured new views Oct. 6 of massive Hurricane Matthew at 4:45 p.m. EDT as the outpost flew 250 miles overhead. At the time of the flyover, Matthew was moving to the northwest through the Bahamas, strengthening to a possible Category 4 hurricane that is expected strike the east coast of Florida and track up the Space Coast Oct. 7 with winds that could reach 145 miles an hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. In her final days as Commander of the International Space Station, Sunita Williams of NASA recorded an extensive tour of the orbital laboratory and downlinked the video on Nov. 18, just hours before she, cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and Flight Engineer Aki Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency departed in their Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft for a landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. The tour includes scenes of each of the station's modules and research facilities with a running narrative by Williams of the work that has taken place and which is ongoing aboard the orbital outpost.
This NASA video goes inside the International Space Station (ISS) which is a space station in low Earth orbit. First launched into orbit in 1998, and now its the largest artificial body in orbit and can often be seen with the human naked eye. The crew can only stay in space orbit for several months maximum, then then must return to Earth. The ISS consists of pressurized modules, external trusses, solar arrays, and other components. ISS components have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets as well as American Space Shuttles. NASA and many other countries help construct it. Awesome NASA documentary about Scientific Experience inside the NASA Space Station. An experiment is a procedure by which it is checked (confirm or verify) one or more hypotheses related to a particular phenomenon , by manipulating and studying the correlations of the variables that are presumably the cause. The experimentation is one of the key elements of scientific research and is critical to providing causal explanations . In one experiment they are considered all relevant variables involved in the phenomenon, by manipulating which are presumably the cause, control of extraneous variables and randomization (or randomization) of the others. These procedures can vary greatly disciplines (not just in physics in psychology , for example), but the same objective: to exclude alternativ...
