Eggleston is a village in County Durham, in England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 448. It is situated in Teesdale, a few miles north-west of Barnard Castle.
The second element of Eggleston is Old English tün, 'enclosure, estate, settlement'. The first element could be the Cumbric word represented today by Welsh eglwys 'church'. However, the first element could also be from the Old Norse personal name Egill or an Anglo-Saxon personal name like Ecgwulf or Ecgel, in which case the name means 'Ecgel's estate'.
The village is first mentioned in tax records of 1196. The remains of ridge and furrow from the medieval period can still be seen. Many of the cottages date from the 18th century and were built by the Society of Friends, who owned lead mines in the area. Forty men were employed as miners until 1904 when the company closed the smelting mills.

Plot: Best friends Kenneth Reynolds and Raymond Jordan are U.S. Navy officers, and Kenneth is engaged to Raymond's sister. But the eruption of the Civil War divides them, as Raymond stands by his native Virginia while Kenneth remains on duty as a Northern officer. Kenneth's uncle, John Ericsson, designs a new kind of ship, an ironclad he calls the Monitor. Eventually the war pits Kenneth, on board the Monitor, against his friend Raymond, serving aboard the South's own ironclad, the Merrimac (as it is called here). A naval battle ensues, one that will go down in history.

http://theartofphotography.tv/episodes/166-william-eggleston http://twitter.com/tedforbes http://pinterest.com/tedforbes William Eggleston represents one of the most pivotal photographers in the 20th century in that it was his color work that changed the acceptance of color photography in the fine art world. He was one of the first photographers ever to have a complete show at MoMA in New York City. He and photography director John Szarkowsky changed the fine art world of photography with this show.
Known for his rich and complex images of the American South, William Eggleston is the godfather of colour photography. Though his images record a particular place at a certain point in time, Eggleston is not interested in their documentary qualities. Instead, when asked what he is photographing, Eggleston simply answers 'Life today'. Curator Simon Baker explores the work of this master and pioneer of colour in fine art photography, on display at Tate Modern. 'William Eggleston never takes multiple shots of the same image' says Baker, instead he takes 'just the right picture at just the right moment'.
A sneek peak at William Eggleston's New Book For Now
This candid interview with photographer William Eggleston was conducted by film director Michael Almereyda on the occasion of the opening of Eggleston's retrospective William Eggleston: Democratic Camera, Photographs and Video, 1961-2008 at the Whitney Museum of American Art. A key figure in American photography, Eggleston is credited with helping to usher in the era of color photography. Eggleston discusses his shift from black and white to color photography in this video as, "it never was a conscious thing. I had wanted to see a lot of things in color because the world is in color". Also included in this video are Eggleston's remarks about his personal relationships with the subjects of many of his photographs. Michael Almereyda is director of the film William Eggleston and the Real W...
Sifting trough the pages of Volume 1 of a great trilogy of books of Eggleston's early color work done on slide film. The books are a pleasure to look at and if you don't have a bookstore where you could check out the books, you can get a glimpse here. I've never held, let alone owned a book this beatifully crafted.

WAJDA PHOTO - We are living (and photographing) at an amazing time in history, a time that will be looked back on in 50 years with wonder. Are we documenting it sufficiently? We see work by Steven Shore and William Eggleston and love the look of the 1960s and 1970s. People in 2016 will be looking at our photos today with that same marvel! Rodney Eggleston explains how March Studio recycled over 5000 pieces of wood to create the award-winning interior for Hotel Hotel in Canberra, Australia. March Studio designed the ground floor spaces of Hotel Hotel, a hotel in Canberra, Australia, developed by 50 different artists, designers and makers. The Melbourne-based studio's design, which was named World Interior of the Year 2015 at Inside Festival last month, features thousands of planks of reclaimed wood that are fixed around the walls and ceiling with steel rods. "The brief here was to use recycled materials," says March Studio director Eggleston. "We looked at ways of creating almost an instant patina, something that already had character and age." March Studio sourced most of the wood for the project directly from the site ...

Dominica Adventure Travel - Whether you're into trekking high into the mountaintops or exploring the watery world below, Dominica is the place to go for those who prefer hiking boots over high heels and are content with a nightlife where the only music is the murmur of the jungle. Dominica has surprisingly long drives for such a small island, so it's better to pick a spot or two and explore instead of bouncing around. If you can do it in the mountains (hiking, bird-watching, searching for hidden pools and waterfalls) or the water (diving, snorkeling, kayaking), you can do it in your dominica adventure travel. Don't miss the ancient forests of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, home to the otherworldly Boiling Lake and the spectacular Trafalgar Falls.Ju Enjoy your Dominica Adventure ...
After leaving Egirdir we drove onto the town of Konya. Located in the town was the Museum of Sufi Leader of Mevlana. This town is very religious with a lot of Muslim tourists visiting the museum. It had a beautiful greeny/blue roof to one and we got a swag of photos. To walk through the museum we had to don blue plastic booties. Our big shoes meant that we had to be careful we didn't tear them. We then got back on the bus and did a quick tour of the town stopping off in front of one old building. The girls as always were getting a lot of ankle stares. From there we continued our journey into the heart of Turkey and on moving away from the coast we started to see that mountainous forests were being replaced by plains with crops. This is the Turkey that I was expecting. Before getting to the...
