Papua New Guinea (PNG; /ˈpæpuə njuː ˈɡɪniː, ˈpɑː-, -pju-/, US /ˈpæpjuə, pɑːˈpuːə/;Tok Pisin: Papua Niugini; Hiri Motu: Papua Niu Gini), officially the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, is an Oceanian country that occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia, a region of the southwestern Pacific Ocean north of Australia. Its capital, located along its southeastern coast, is Port Moresby. The western half of New Guinea forms the Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua.
Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world; 848 languages are listed for the country, of which 12 have no known living speakers. Most of the population of over 7 million people live in customary communities, which are as diverse as the languages. It is also one of the most rural, as only 18 percent of its people live in urban centres. The country is one of the world's least explored, culturally and geographically, and many undiscovered species of plants and animals are thought to exist in the interior.

SPLINTERS is the first feature length documentary film about the evolution of indigenous surfing in the developing nation of Papua New Guinea. In the 1980s an intrepid Australian pilot left behind a surfboard in the seaside village of Vanimo. Twenty years on, surfing is not only a pillar of village life but a means to prestige. With no access to economic or educational advancement, let alone running water and power, village life is hermetic. A spot on the Papua New Guinea national surfing team is the way to see the wider world; the only way. Filmed in cinema veritéstyle, the film profiles several villagers in their quest to become professional surfers. Set at the crossroads of civilization in a land where cannibalism proceeded into the 20th century, the story is as much a tale of budding...

Papua New Guinea (Niugini) black bass have the reputation as one of the world's toughest fighting sport fish. They live in the coastal streams and rivers of Papua New Guinea where they are captured by small-scale subsistence fisheries and are the target of a small but growing catch-and-release sport fishing industry. Locally based sport fisheries in Papua New Guinea (PNG) have the potential to provide stable alternative livelihoods and new income streams to support food security for PNG's coastal villages as a result of increased income, in addition to building resilience to external impacts such as climate change and fluctuations in commodity prices. Moreover, development of sport fishing (recreational catch-and-release angling for iconic game fish) is a major initiative that would suppo...

Papua New Guinea Travel Video - Travelling in PNG can be challenging. With almost no Travelism infrastructure and limited information available in books and on websites, it can feel like youre stepping into the great unknown. But this is exactly why travellers find this country so compelling. Nothing is contrived for Travelists and every experience is authentic - even the main island of Bougainville is a largely DIY travel experience. The striking natural beauty and myriad complex cultures offer some riveting and truly life-affirming experiences. The island of New Guinea, of which Papua New Guinea is the eastern part, is only one-ninth as big as Australia, yet it has just as many mammal species, and more kinds of birds and frogs. PNG is Australias biological mirror-world. Both places share...
Travel video about destination Dani. New Guinea is situated close to the former Irian Jay that is now known as West Papua. It seems to be a hidden place, as though the land itself wants to retain its age old mystique. It was only in the 1930’s that American millionaire, Richard Archibold, discovered this until then unknown and untouched world. The Baliem Valley is not only West Papua’s high valley it is also the home of a unique indigenous people, the Dani. In the dense and virtually impenetrable forest regions of the Baliem Valley and its surrounding highlands there are numerous tribes but it is the Dani who are the most populated tribe of the region. At the beginning of the 1980’s Wamena was only a small village occupied by the Dani. However, the regular air service to New Guinea’s mai...
