I like the profiles of NZ homes, especially the names of some of the timbers that we dont get here in Australia - the difference in the flora amazes me considering we are so close.

Yes Australia and New Zealand timbers are very different Even the exotics grow quite differently in each country. The lawson cypress is very good cladding in NZ but here it would be more likely to split. The eucalyptus is a good option here but has to much movement in NZ. I think that your area will dictate your cladding.

I agree with G&T regarding building to your environment. The California bungalow wasn't right for the NZ climate. Neither was the Mediterranean style homes hence leaky houses...
