What is Pokemon GO?

What is the phenomenon all about and what does it say about us?

Hundreds of gamers had been gathering in the park each night since the craze began on July 6 because it had three intersecting Pokestops, allowing gamers to catch large numbers of quality Pokemon.

The latest update to the app appears to have removed the three Pokestops.

Residents celebrated the end of the chaos, which included traffic jams, rubbish left strewn in the park, driveways being blocked, noise until the early hours of the morning and children's play equipment being used by adult Pokemon players.

Sunghoon Choi, who lives above the park with his young family,  told the Herald last week: "There is loud shouting throughout the night, people dumping rubbish and cigarette butts and constant traffic jams."

Canada Bay Council had been encouraging residents to petition the game's creator, Niantic, to remove some of the Pokestops from the park.

It had been spending ratepayers' money on additional garbage collection and ranger patrols.
