Dave Sez : Summer Sampler

Dave Sez - Summer Sampler for Skamanc....

The summer rolls in around my part of the world, so time to celebrate the sun with some original ska and early punk rarities from the archive!

- the proto-Clash 101ers live in May 76 (Jail Guitar Doors and Junco Partner)

- the two original versions of Armagideon Time from 1969 and 1978, and a great live Clash version from 1980

- both 1977 singles from the secret Stranglers/Wilko group, Celia And The Mutations

- Ultravox's first 1975 single as Tiger Lily

- a UK '76 ska-tinged single by Anglo-Ethiopian Mari Elliott, first single by the pre-Bondage Poly Styrene

- and, last but very definitely not least, the best '77 punk anthem you never heard - Rough Trade's 001, Metal Urbain with Paris Maquis - up there with "Anarchy in the UK".

Full pics and detailed texts for each single included. Enjoy! All one easy download at:

THE SPECIALS : USA / Canadian Gigs 1980 -81 (Part 1)

Please Help The Blog's Laptop Appeal - see bottom of Page...

I was looking through some discs and hard drives recently prior to re-uploading a file for a mate. During this laborious search I came across several gems, including the material below...

I have several more, somewhere... might have to take them off the cd's again & do a part 2 of this post sometime in the near future....

Here then are some Specials gigs from the USA & Canada from 1980 -81 that are long overdue either a repost or a first airing on the blog... Anything that has been previously posted has a new sharecode.

As always, many thanks to the original bootleggers.

Sat Nite Live TV Show clip (audio) 1980

Seattle Showbox Feb 1st 1980

Whisky A Go Go, LA, Feb 8th1980

Speaks Club, Long Island, March 2nd 1980 Pt1

Speaks Club 1980 Pt2

Schaumberg 21/3/80

Oakville, Ontario (Canada) 23/8/81

On the subject of The Specials & Two Tone, I am hoping to sell a few copies of the Dance Craze film on DVD format (which it has never officially been released on). The VHS tape is, of course, long deleted, and these have been on e-bay for a while.

I am currently in dispuite with e-bay & need to directly sell a few units to replace my old PC, which is dying fast and is taking longer & longer to perform even the mos basic task. For example, logging on to the net is about 30mins now, and an average post on the blog takes about 2 hours.

I am after a cheap & cheerful, half decent laptop and so am selling copies of Dance Craze, including UK postage, for a fiver.

I also have a unique, professional remaster of Dance Craze, with new graphics, black  white sections & lead ins & outs between tracks. This is also a fiver, though I will do both for £9.00 again inclusive of UK postage.

Donations to the blog are of course still most welcome...

Payment can be made via Paypal, to the usual blog address :

skamanc_auto_spark@hotmail.co.uk

OR

waltjabsco@hotmail.com

I hate to make the blog look like a market place, but I need a "new" PC asap as I can't keep relying on the library, and they're only open "sensible" hours.. Plus, if I get one, I can make good use of the free wifi in McDonalds etc to keep the blog rolling along !!

The DVD is a good quality copy & is boxed with a basic label & sleeve. If you buy both there is one box, with the 2nd disc in a clear slip sleeve inside the box...

THE BUZZCOCKS + HOWARD DEVOTO : Manchester O2 Apollo 25/5/12

As many regulars & visitors will be aware, I am a huge fan of the modern day genius that is Howard Devoto. As such, I have pinched this file from the link on Dave's recent Magazine Megapost and posted it directly on the blog.

Here is Disc 3, where we see the original Buzzcocks line up including Devoto after a thirty odd years hiatus. This even features John Maher on drums, who is now a big name on the custom VW scene in Manchester.

I've got a soft spot for the Buzzcocks, but just had an urge to post the "reunion" disc. The link on the megapost is the source for the previous 2x discs...

Dave Sez : Magazine Megapost Part (1)

I recently referred to a very kind offer of help from the legendary Dave Sez. Here, then, is Part One of a fantastic collection of Magazine, Devoto & Buzzcocks related material. On this topic, it was great to see Howard Devoto & BarryAdamson being interviewed as part of last Friday's "Punk Britannia" Part 3.

Please continue your fantastic support you have previously shown the blog & make sure that you leave some comments for Dave. Now its over to the man himself...

Magazine megapost - Part One

In a series of guest posts for skamanc (in thanks for the great music I've got from here), it's time to return the gift and lend a hand. For today, I'll direct you to pages on the web which you may have already visited and maybe not: in any case, the links are still live. I'd ask readers to leave thanks in the comments over there, as without these posters' generosity, we couldn't all enjoy this music. In following posts, I'll be reupping for skamanc more rare Magazine that has since disappeared from the web, notably their 1977 demos and live gig at the Electric Circus. Enough chatter: on with it.

Sunday Service : JARVIS COCKER with JOHN COOPER - CLARKE

Regular listeners to Jarvis Cocker's excellent BBC6 Sunday Service will probably know that John Cooper Clarke has had stints covering the broadcast. Here is an example of Johnny Clarke in action...

WILD BILLY CHILDISH'S BUFF MEDWAYS : Medway Wheelers

Been a while since I posted anything Childish / Milkshakes related, but after receiving Jonny's Bandits live file yesterday, I had a delve through the hard drive & rediscovered this little gem.... the great Billy Childish does it again !! Some great material and production on here, echoing the mid 60s Mod - Beat style that we love so much... Childish remains a 110% one - off character for me & deserves a proper listen.

THE BANDITS : St George Hotel, Chatham, 6/11/92

Not to be confused with the Scots band on Creation Records (The BMX Bandits), this is a rarity by the lesser known Medway outfit The Bandits. this was sent in by courtesy of Jonny, who, I'm sure, would appreciate some comments.

 Media Fire Rapidshit

Skamanc Calling....

There's been a decent response to my moaning last week with some great offers of help, new material & the like.

First up will be a great live Medway rarity from Jonny that I'll be posting very soon.... tonight even if I can get my arse into gear ?!?!?

Dave Sez (UK Punk specialist) has made me a very kind offer of help that I'll be accepting, and Martin & Herr Pauli will be continuing their regular supply of files.

As always, any other offers of material are most welcome & would be greatly appreciated. Remember this is your blog!

DEXY'S : One Day I'm Going To Soar album sampler (2012)

I was delighted to receive an electronic copy of this album last night courtesy of Big Gaz, who was apparently responding to my recent appeal for help with blog matters.

Been listening to it on and off all day, and its grown on me like you wouldn't believe !! Excellent songs and performance, and a great "comeback" by Rowland and Dexy's. (The "Midnight Runners" part of the name has apparently been dropped).

Here are three selected tracks off this fine new release - download it, have a listen & please post your comments, thoughts & the like.

Back on that borrowed laptop here in McDonalds... there's limits on how long I can nurse a single cup of cold coffee so I'd better post this & get going... !!

Just noticed that this is the blog's 950th published post - we should mark the 1000th with something really special...

RUMER : Boys Don't Cry album sampler (2012)

I recently heard a track off this fine album on the radio at work and then thought about other issues until this morning. My sister - in - law bought the CD over and asked me to put it onto her ipod. No problem, as long as I could cop a copy onto my hard drive.... here then  are three tracks off the CD. Have a listen & post your thoughts in the comments if you feel so inclined...

I also received an electronic copy of the new Dexys album via e-mail last night, courtesy of Big Gaz, so many thanks to him. I'll also be editing this into a sampler & posting the results.

The Blog - where do we go from here ?? An appeal...

Firstly, sorry for my recent absence from the blog, both in terms of posts and also general presence / comments & c-box.

I am, yet again, off - line, seemingly this time for the long term. As I type, I'm using a mate's laptop in the local McDonalds (free wi-fi), as I'm helping him with a college electrical assignment.

Thanks for all the comments & the c-box activity from Pauli, Martin, Jonny & Ian, my most loyal visitors. I was heartened to see the huge download figures for the John Cooper Clarke & Adverts posts, presumably after the excellent Friday Punk themed night on BBC4 last week. This was one of the original reasons for my starting the blog, in effect to act as a resource for cool, interesting & / or hard to fund material of all kinds.

I hope that I've introduced a few faces to some new acts and artists, and, in the process, pulled down some musical divisions. A recent visitor post thanked me for introducing him to The Ruts - job done !

Sadly, as things stand currently, I'm in a deep hole, and can't see a way forward for the blog in the immediate term. I am curtailed by several factors, including lack of cash, lack of Internet access & a dearth of new material to upload & then post.

Any help from the faithful, semi - regulars and even newbies is, as always more than welcome, especially as things stand just now. New files would be a godsend, either electronically or on CD-R, as would any thing else I could post, just to keep the blog going forward. I hate to sound like I'm begging, but small donations, via the paypal donate button would be much appreciated too.

New ideas are also welcomed, as my imagination is a bit lacklustre currently.

I will obviously do my best to keep the blog viable and running, and will log on as often as possible.

Thanks to everyone who has logged on to the blog for your loyalty and support over the past 2 1/2 years.

Yours, Skamanc.
