A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.
I'm especially proud to share this particular video of mine. In my opinion, it is the first true CANADIAN video I've put together that represents some of the most beautiful western parts of Canada. Jasper is the gentle giant of the Rockies. Offering visitors a more laid-back mountain experience - with equal options for adventure, discovery and relaxation. As one of Canada’s oldest and largest national parks, established in 1907, Jasper was once seen as an island of civilization in a vast wilderness.( http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/jasper/index.aspx) Music: Downloaded it from the YouTube Audio Library https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/missIanablog Follow us on: http://www.dietandi.com/ GOOGLE PLUS: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EphigeniaStamate/posts PINTEREST: http://pinterest.com/ephigenia77/ TWITTER: https://twitter.com/Ephigenia77 FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Diet-and-I/478002492262797

Protruding nearly 115 feet over a cliff edge, Glacier Skywalk dangles 918 feet above Sunwapta Canyon. The skywalk officially opened on May 1st, but it's been a time consuming project. It took about...

This is the first back country hike for the Amazing Almeida Hiking Family, A Father & Daughter Excursion, as we attempt the Skyline Trail of Jasper National Park, we take 3 days & 2 nights to complete this course. A total of 44 Kilometers, as we parked our vehicle at a Maligne Canyon side of the trail head, then we took a shuttle to the Maligne Lake side, and began our hike right away. The first night we slept at the Snowbowl campsite, which took us 12 KM's to reach. The next day we headed for the Tekarra Campsite, crossing through the famous " the Notch" pass (2510 m), which took us 18 KM's to reach and the last day we hiked the remaining 14 KM's back to the "Maligne Canyon" parking lot. It rained for 75% of the whole time we were out there, the views were to a minimal because of the clou...

Theresa Dinh is a Masters of Science candidate at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Dr. Ze'ev Gedalof. She describes how tree ring data will be used reconstruct a highly detailed history (right down to the season) of the fires in Jasper National Park. The objective is to get a description of a mixed fire regime (high intensity fires detected by the cohort age to the tree stand, low intensity fires through fire scars). Her research is to look at climate and fire history from the 1600's to present. Large intense fires should occur with significant periods of drought. That should show up in the width of the tree rings. The season of the fire should be detected by where the fire scare shows up in the tree ring. The study area is 400 square kilometers around the Jasper townsite...
