The name Nepartak has been used for two tropical cyclones in the western north Pacific Ocean. The word is originally the designation for a famous Kosrae warrior and is derived from an a language of the Federated States of Micronesia.
Tropical cyclones are officially ranked on one of five tropical cyclone scales, according to their maximum sustained winds and which tropical cyclone basin(s) they are located in. Only a few scales of classifications are used officially by the meteorological agencies monitoring the tropical cyclones, but some alternative scales also exist, such as accumulated cyclone energy, the Power Dissipation Index, the Integrated Kinetic Energy Index, and the Hurricane Severity Index.
Should a tropical cyclone form in the North Atlantic Ocean or the North-eastern Pacific Ocean, it will be classified using one of the categories in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. In the Western Pacific, tropical cyclones will be ranked using the Japan Meteorological Agency's scale. The Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) in New Delhi, India also uses a different scale to assess the maximum sustained winds of a tropical cyclone. In the Southern Hemisphere, the Météo-France forecast center on La Reunion uses a scale that covers the whole of the South West Indian Ocean. Both the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the RSMC in Nadi, Fiji use the Australian tropical cyclone intensity scale.

Taiwan (i/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/; Chinese: 臺灣 or 台灣; see below), officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War. This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free area of the Republic of China" which is not ruled by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 649 people per km2 in October 2015.Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.
A typhoon is a mature tropical cyclone that develops in the western part of the North Pacific Ocean between 180° and 100°E. This region is referred to as the Northwestern Pacific Basin, and is the most active tropical cyclone basin on Earth, accounting for almost one-third of the world's annual tropical cyclones. For organisational purposes, the northern Pacific Ocean is divided into three regions: the eastern (North America to 140°W), central (140° to 180°W), and western (180° to 100°E). The Regional Specialized Meteorological Center (RSMC) for tropical cyclone forecasts is in Japan, with other tropical cyclone warning centers for the northwest Pacific in Honolulu (the Joint Typhoon Warning Center), the Philippines and Hong Kong. While the RSMC names each system, the main name list itself is coordinated among 18 countries that have territories threatened by typhoons each year. The Philippines use their own naming list for systems approaching the country.
Taiwan Central Emergency Operation Center spokesman says at least one person is dead and another injured in the first hour of the storm that has prompted thousands of people to take shelter.
The destructive typhoon, Nepartak, toppled houses, ripped off trees and knocked out power, killing two and injuring dozens of others and forcing thousands to evacuate in the eastern part of Taiwan after it landed in Taitung. The powerful typhoon wreaked havoc in the county, ripping off roofs and billboards and flattening street lamps, with tree branches scattered all over roads. TAIPEI — Taiwan is preparing for super typhoon Nepartak, which ended a record storm drought of 200 days in the northwest Pacific Ocean, USA Today cited Colorado State University hurricane expert Phil Klotzbach as saying. Super typhoon Nepartak was formed in a low-pressure area south of Guam on June 30, according to Stars and Stripes, a publication that operates inside the U.S. Department of Defense. The storm was created when warm, moist air rose into the atmosphere, forming clouds after condensation. The system of clouds and wind continued to grow and spin faster until it became a typhoon. Nepartak has an annular appearance, meaning it has a pinhole storm eye and very tight bands. Annular typhoons are less likely to weaken due to environmental factors such as land masses and cold water ...
