New Brunswick (French: Nouveau-Brunswick; pronounced: [nu.vo.bÊ?Å“n.swik], Quebec French pronunciation: [nu.vo.bÊ?É”n.zwɪk]) is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces and is the only constitutionally bilingual (English–French) province. It was created as a result of the partitioning of the British Colony of Nova Scotia in 1784. Fredericton is the capital, Moncton is the largest metropolitan (CMA) area and Saint John is the most populous city. In the 2011 nationwide census, Statistics Canada estimated the provincial population to have been 751,171. The majority of the population is English-speaking, but there is also a large Francophone minority (33%), chiefly of Acadian origin. The flag features a ship superimposed on a yellow background with a yellow lion above it.
The province is named for the city of Braunschweig, known in English as Brunswick, located in modern-day Lower Saxony in northern Germany (and also the former duchy of the same name). The then-colony was named in 1784 to honour the reigning British monarch, George III. Braunschweig is the ancestral home of the British monarch George I and his successors (the House of Hanover).
Fredericton (/ˈfrɛdrɪktən/) is the capital of the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The city is situated in the west-central portion of the province along the Saint John River, which flows west to east as it bisects the city; it is the dominant natural feature of the area. One of the main urban centres in New Brunswick, the city had a population of 56,224 in the 2011 census. It is the third-largest city in the province after Saint John and Moncton.
An important cultural, artistic, and educational centre for the province, Fredericton is home to two universities, the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, and cultural institutions such as the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Fredericton Region Museum, and The Playhouse, a performing arts venue. The city hosts the annual Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival, attracting regional and international jazz, blues, rock, and world artists. Fredericton is also an important and vibrant center point for the region's top visual artists; many of New Brunswick's notable artists live and work there today. Fredericton has also been home to some great historical Canadian painters as well, including Goodridge Roberts, and Molly and Bruno Bobak.

Canada (i/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.
The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia joined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.

This drive provides a tour of Fredericton, New Brunswick, on a beautiful fall day that was almost spoiled by fog. You'll see me drive into the fog near the river and downtown, but after a brief walk across Fredericton's pedestrian bridge, the fog lifts, and I made another loop around town, just so you could see everything again. MyDrivelapse.com and Takemytrip.com provide driving videos and stories to help you plan your trip. Check out hundreds of videos on my YouTube channel. Subscribe if you like it! Dozens of new videos are on the way in the coming weeks. I made this trip in early October, 2016. Nestled along the magnificent Saint John River sits Fredericton, New Brunswick’s capital city. Visitors can enjoy the diverse tastes of a big city while reveling in the friendly welcome of a small town. What better way to explore this riverside hub than a gastronomic tour? Fredericton’s many restaurants serve everything from local seafood to farm-fresh vegetables. Pick up your own goodies, straight from the farmer, at the Boyce Farmers Market, one of Canada’s best. But the meal isn’t complete without something to wash it down. With nearly a dozen craft breweries, newcomers will raise a glass (or two!) to the overflowing selection of beer, cider, and mead on tap. History comes alive in Fredericton. Watch the Changing of the Guard in the Historic Garrison District, or stroll down the tr...

In Fredericton, the average duration of stay in shelters and on the streets is 34.8 months: http://www.roadhomefredericton.com/uploads/7/9/9/0/79906692/fredericton_homeless_count_community_debrief_1.pdf The chronic and episodically homeless make up 15% of the homeless population and rely on over 50% of government resources for this group, in terms of law enforcement, health care and other emergency services. These resources are not creating lasting change in the lives of homeless people. So what's the hold up? Government refuses to make Housing First a priority. While the upfront costs are higher, there will be great cost savings over time. More importantly, it's the right thing to do.

New Brunswick was the fourth province we visited on our 150-day road trip across Canada. Learn more at www.MustDoCanada.com/Road-to-150 New Brunswick surprised us in so many ways. From kayaking some of the highest tides in the world to the walking around the historic streets of Fredericton, we experienced so much in such little time. We walked on the ocean floor during low tide, rappelled down a cliff at Cape Enrage, went back in time at King's Landing, zip-lined over a canyon in Grand Falls, and stumbled across a military ceremony in Fredericton where we got to see a new commanding officer take charge complete with a marching band, marching soldiers, and the opportunity to go inside a LAV. 5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in New Brunswick, Canada From the world's highest tides on the Bay of Fundy to warm swimming waters on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the sightseeing pleasures of New Brunswick may come as a surprise. The province is virtually rectangular in shape, bordering Québec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and the U.S. State of Maine. The largest cities are Saint John, Moncton, and the provincial capital, Fredericton. But among the dense forests (which cover more than three-quarters of the province), rivers divide the land into shallow valleys with good farmland. Along the coast, New Brunswick has a relatively mild maritime climate. Inland, on the other hand, there are mostly continental extremes of temperature with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Walking around in Downtown Fredericton for a video
This is the daily dash-cam footage from our 35-day drive across Canada and the US, starting in Vancouver (BC) and ending in Hudson (QC). It took 35 days, 6 Canadian provinces, 20 US states, 4 time zones, 4000 photos, 150 hours of video, and was a whole lot of fun. Total distance driven was 12,325km (7,658 miles). We recorded these videos to allow ourselves to re-live the adventure again in the future. It's online here to share with our friends and families. The videos play back at 5x, but even so we are fully aware that no-one other than us any much interest in watching all of them. There's no music because of a) copyright stuff and b) because we don't want to create a playlist which is hours long and that many people will mute. So, find your own favourite driving music and put that on ...
