Michael Schumacher still can't walk: lawyer

Michael Schumacher still remains unable to walk almost three years after a serious ski accident, according to his family's lawyer.

The Formula One legend's family is suing German magazine, Bunte, who published an article claiming the seven-time world champion could walk a few steps.

Bunte's report is said to have quoted an unnamed friend of Schumacher's who claimed: "Michael is very thin. But he can once again walk a little with the help of his therapists. He manages to make a couple of steps. And he can also raise an arm."

However the family's lawyer, Felix Damn, said it was untrue and the 47-year-old still could not lift his arm as they proceed with attempts to claim between EUR40,000 ($A59,312) and EUR100,000 ($A148,280) from the publication.

Little is known of Schumacher's condition since the DecemberĀ 2013 incident in the French Alps.

The news is the first public update on Schumacher's health since former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo saw his long-time champion driver in February.

"I have news and unfortunately it is not good," he said at the time.

"Life is strange. He was a fantastic driver and only had one accident with Ferrari in 1999."
