SHILLONG: The four-day Children's Film Festival, 'The Travelling Players', organized by the Children's Film Society of India in collaboration with Cinedarbar, kicked off on Monday at the district auditorium in Tura in West Garo Hills.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest RS Sangma, former joint secretary of the state animal husbandry department, said, "Programmes of this kind help students learn and analyse storylines beyond the characters portrayed in the films."
While Sangma encouraged student participation in such activities, he also urged them to stay away from various kinds of peer pressure.
Two movies entitled 'Kima's Lode: Beyond the Class' and 'Mother I Love You' were screened as part of the inaugural show. 'Kima's Lode: Beyond the Class' is an adventurous story of a boy set in the pristine environment of Mizoram. The movie, produced by the Children's Film Society, was presented the Best Regional Film Award at the 63rd National Film Awards this year.
"Another film screened at the festival is a Latvian (drama) film titled 'Mother I Love You', written and directed by Jains Nords. The film was selected as the Latvian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards," an official release read.
Students from various schools of Tura town attended the festival. The fest is scheduled for September 19, 21, 22 and 23.
