Emmy Awards 2016: Red carpet style, ceremony and winners

HOLLYWOOD’S hottest stars celebrated American TV’s night of nights with lots of jokes about the upcoming US election, where Emmy awards host Jimmy Kimmel roasted Donald Trump and even Dame Maggie Smith.

He also handed out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made by his mum, and copped it from Matt Damon who wandered on stage while casually eating an apple and told the audience Kimmel was a “really big loser”, after he lost out to John Oliver in his category.

Game of Thrones’s had the most nominations this year and is now the most award scripted television show in Emmys history with 38 awards in total.

Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn also stunned the audience with his win for Bloodline, which upset Games of Thrones’ duo Peter Dinklage and Kit Harrington who were expected to battle it out for the prize. Mendelsohn was an 80-1 longshot. He was absent from the ceremony as Taraji P Henson accepted it on his behalf.

The red carpet was abuzz, as Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara and Ariel Winter, GOT’s Emilia Clarke and Scandal actor Kerry Washington showed off their flawless style.
