Deniece Williams
Deniece Williams (born June Deniece Chandler; June 3, 1950) is an American singer–songwriter and record producer who achieved success in the mid–1970s and 1980s. Williams is known for hits such as "Free" (1976), "Silly" (1981), "It's Gonna Take a Miracle" (1982), "Let's Hear It for the Boy" (1984), and for her duets with singer Johnny Mathis.
Career
Born in Gary, Indiana, Williams attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, in the hopes of becoming a registered nurse and an anesthetist, but dropped out after a year and a half. ("You have to be a good student to be in college, and I wasn't.") She also performed on the side during that time. ("I got a part-time job singing at a club, Casino Royal, and I liked it. It was a lot of fun.") During those years Williams also worked in a telephone company and as a ward clerk at the Chicago Mercy Hospital. As Deniece Chandler, she recorded for The Toddlin' Town group of labels and one of those early records, "I'm Walking Away", released on Toddlin' Town's Lock Records subsidiary in the late 1960s, is a favorite on England's Northern Soul scene. In the 1970s she became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of "Wonderlove".

Greatest hits album
A greatest hits album, sometimes called a "best of" album or a catalog album, is a compilation of songs by a particular artist or band. Most often the track list contains previously released recordings with a high degree of notability. However, to increase the appeal, especially to people who already own the original release, it is common to include remixes and/or alternate takes of popular songs; even new material (previously unreleased). At times a greatest hits compilation is the original release for songs that have themselves been released as a single and charted successfully.
Notable compilations
Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a solo artist; all of the songs on it are presented in different versions than the original hit versions. The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a group and also one of the ten best selling albums in history. Greatest hits albums are typically produced after an artist has had enough successful songs to fill out an album release. Some artists, such as Mariah Carey, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Kenny Rogers, Aerosmith, Kiss, U2, Dolly Parton, Journey, Los Tigres del Norte, Queen, Kylie Minogue and Billy Joel, have released multiple greatest hits albums through their long careers. Some greatest hits albums are released only at the end of the artist or group's career. For example, My Chemical Romance released a greatest hits album after they disbanded. Other artists, like Eminem have released hits albums in the center of their success. He released Curtain Call: The Hits in 2005 and then Shady XV as a compilation album in 2014.

I filmed this concert from my cell phone.. I tried to get the best footage possible without getting in her way on stage and without sacrificing video quality. Stevie Wonder 1974 concert on German TV show Musikladen/Beat Club. I recorded from the European TV channel VH1 in 2003. I wish this would be released on DVD! If someone can help me identify the musicians, it would be great. One of the ladies, Afro and a polo shirt, singing backing vocals is Denice Williams. She was part of Wonder's female background singing group Wonderlove. I think this is the partial lineup, based on what Stevie says at 23.15: Reggie McBride plays bass. I recorded from the European TV channel VH1 in 2003. I wish this would be released on DVD! If someone can help me identify the musicians, it would be great. One of the ladies, Afro and a polo shirt, singing backing vocals is Denice Williams. She was part of Wonder's female background singing group Wonderlove. I think this is the partial lineup, based on what Stevie says at 23.15: Reggie McBride plays bass. Michael "Mike" Sembello on guitar and keys, Ollie E. Brown on drums.

As Denise Chandler, She recorded for The Toddlin' Town group of labels and one of those early records, 'I'm Walking Away' released on Toddlin' Town's 'Lock Records' subsidiary in the late 60′s, is a favorite on England's Northern Soul scene.
As her success grew, she found herself on the fast track. One thing led to another and Deniece became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of "Wonderlove." in the early 1970s. It was an exciting time and she experienced many things on her journey.
In 1975, Deniece decided to venture forward, leaving Stevie Wonder and signing with Columbia Records. She then teamed up with two famed producers: Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and his frequent collaborator, Charles Stepney. Her 1976 debut album entitled This Is Niecy was released. The single "Free" reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the British Singles chart. The album also featured "Cause You Love Me Baby" (which charted separately on the R&B; chart as the flip side of "Free") and "That's What Friends Are For". Born in Gary, Indiana, Deniece attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland in the hopes of becoming a registered nurse and an anesthetist. During that time she performed on the side. "I got a part-time job singing at a club, Casino Royal, and I liked it. It was a lot of fun." During those years, she also worked at a telephone company and as a ward clerk in the Chicago Mercy Hospital. But soon she would trade in these pursuits for a life of music.
As Denise Chandler, She recorded for The Toddlin' Town group of labels and one of those early records, 'I'm Walking Away' released on Toddlin' Town's 'Lock Records' subsidiary in the late 60′s, is a favorite on England's Northern Soul scene.
As her success grew, she found herself on the fast track. One thing led to another and Deniece became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of "Wonderlove." in the early 1970s. It was an exciting time and she experienced many things on her journey.
In 1975, Deniece decided to venture forward, leaving Stevie Wonder and signing with Columbia Records. She then teamed up with two famed producers: Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and his frequent collaborator, Charles Stepney. Her 1976 debut album entitled This Is Niecy was released. The single "Free" reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the British Singles chart. The album also featured "Cause You Love Me Baby" (which charted separately on the R&B; chart as the flip side of "Free") and "That's What Friends Are For". KINGDOM OF GOD VS KINGDOM OF THE WORLD
A Kingdom is as we know it, is a country, state, or territory where humans are ruled by mortal Kings, Queens and Presidents whereas the kingdoms referred to in the scriptures are spiritual kingdoms where all human spirits are ruled by spiritual rulers. The Kingdom of God is ruled by the spirit of God known as spirit of light or holy ghost whereas the Kingdom of the World is ruled by Satan’s fallen angels also known as Spirits of Darkness or Demons.
In the kingdom of God, the Spirit of God dwells in human body to speak the thoughts and the will of God to his/her spirit resulting in the person executing the will of God in a given situation whereas in the kingdom of the World, demons dwell in human body to speak the thoughts and the will of Devil to his/her spirit resulting in the person executing the will of the Devil in a given situation.
The first coming of Christ marked the beginning of the restoration of God's Kingdom on earth and the beginning of a fierce battle for dominion over mankind by God and Satan.
“Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” – Luke 17:20-21. He added “But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. How can anyone enter a strongman’s house and steal his possessions, unless he first ties the strongman? Then he can plunder his house” – Matthew 12:28
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
“As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of God has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons..."
This video is the evidence that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world's darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" - Ephesians 6:12
Paul the Apostle prepared us for the fierce spiritual battle which starts as soon as we make a decision to leave the kingdom of the World for the Kingdom of God. He said "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete." - 2 Corinthians 10:4-6
To resists the Devil, Paul said, "Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth (Spirit of God) buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness(Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control), in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6:13-17
The day of evil is a day the demon speaks pours his thoughts to your spirit with the intention to kill, steal and destroy. It is a day like the day evil spirits poured their thoughts to the guardians and biological mother of this very talented lady. It is a day like the day the evil spirit poured his thoughts to Jesus in the Wilderness. Matthew 4:1-11.
There MUST be unity of the spirit of God and the World of God in order for us to resist the schemes of the devil, as evidenced by Jesus' response when the spirit of darkness tempted him in the Wilderness and as taught by Paul the Apostle. Jesus resisted the devil with the scriptures. Therefore, it is a matter of life and death to read and write the scriptures in our hearts, and to recite them day and night in order to resist the spirits of darkness, in so doing, we will unlock uninterrupted flow of the thoughts of God in every step we take. Then we will be prosperous and successful.

Born in Gary, Indiana, Deniece attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland in the hopes of becoming a registered nurse and an anesthetist. During that time she performed on the side. "I got a part-time job singing at a club, Casino Royal, and I liked it. It was a lot of fun." During those years, she also worked at a telephone company and as a ward clerk in the Chicago Mercy Hospital. But soon she would trade in these pursuits for a life of music.
As Denise Chandler, She recorded for The Toddlin' Town group of labels and one of those early records, 'I'm Walking Away' released on Toddlin' Town's 'Lock Records' subsidiary in the late 60′s, is a favorite on England's Northern Soul scene.
As her success grew, she found herself on the fast track. One thing led to another and Deniece became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of "Wonderlove." in the early 1970s. It was an exciting time and she experienced many things on her journey.
In 1975, Deniece decided to venture forward, leaving Stevie Wonder and signing with Columbia Records. She then teamed up with two famed producers: Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and his frequent collaborator, Charles Stepney. Her 1976 debut album entitled This Is Niecy was released. The single "Free" reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the British Singles chart. The album also featured "Cause You Love Me Baby" (which charted separately on the R&B; chart as the flip side of "Free") and "That's What Friends Are For". She also shared a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with pop singer Johnny Mathis in 1978 with the duet "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late". The duet also topped the Black Singles and Adult Contemporary charts. Williams also topped the dance charts with her disco single "I've Got the Next Dance". Mathis and Williams also recorded the popular theme to the 1980s sitcom Family Ties, "Without Us".
Williams moved on to the American Recording Company (ARC) in the early 1980s where she scored the top ten R&B; smash hit "Silly" in 1981. The following year, yet another famed producer, Thom Bell, helped Williams score another #1 R&B; chart-topper with her remake of The Royalettes' "It's Gonna Take a Miracle," which became a Top 10 pop hit as well, reaching #10.
Let's Hear it For the Boy
In 1984, Deniece released the album Let's Hear It for the Boy, in which the title track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was featured on the soundtrack to
Footloose. The song would prove to be the biggest pop hit of her career -- and the last. She also contributed vocals, along with Maurice White, to the song "And Then" from Weather Report's album Mr. Gone released in 1982. She continued releasing albums during the 1980s such as Hot On The Trail (1986), Water Under The Bridge (1987), and As Good As It Gets (1988), which featured her last Top Ten hit to date, "I Can't Wait", written by Skylark.
Gospel
Although Deniece had recorded one inspirational song on almost each of her albums, it was in 1980 that her musical career path began change toward one of her favorite things, Gospel music. She joined with friends Phillip Bailey (Earth, Wind and Fire fame), Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo to present a gospel show at a popular Los Angeles club named The Roxy. The show was called "Jesus At the Roxy". Deniece felt strongly about it saying, "God did something miraculous. Over three hundred people were saved", as reported in an interview with Gospel Today Magazine. After that, both Bailey and Williams decided to pursue careers in Christian music.
In 1983, Deniece and Bailey recorded "They Say", an atmospheric, slow praise song that builds towards the end with rousing words of praise. The song was written by songwriters Skip Scarborough and Terri McFaddin and received airplay on both Urban and Gospel Black radio. Deniece later recorded the song with Christian artist Sandi Patti and won a Grammy for it.
In 1984, Deniece sang a Gospel song at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards. She sang an acapella version of her 1977 composition "God Is Amazing". In 1986, she would release her first full-length gospel album, "So Glad I Know" (Sparrow 1121; # 8-gospel) which brought her two Grammy awards.
Deniece would continue to write, record and release Gospel music for the next several years. From 1996 to 2004, she presented her own BBC radio show in the UK, showcasing newgospel and inspirational music. During that time (1999) she recorded the Gospel album This Is My Song, which brought her another Grammy award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.

I filmed this concert from my cell phone.. I tried to get the best footage possible without getting in her way on stage and without sacrificing video quality. Please excuse the occasional screen movement as my arms were getting tired from holding my phone up for 30 minutes. Enjoy the show! Obie One P.S. KINGDOM OF GOD VS KINGDOM OF THE WORLD
A Kingdom is as we know it, is a country, state, or territory where humans are ruled by mortal Kings, Queens and Presidents whereas the kingdoms referred to in the scriptures are spiritual kingdoms where all human spirits are ruled by spiritual rulers. The Kingdom of God is ruled by the spirit of God known as spirit of light or holy ghost whereas the Kingdom of the World is ruled by Satan’s fallen angels also known as Spirits of Darkness or Demons.
In the kingdom of God, the Spirit of God dwells in human body to speak the thoughts and the will of God to his/her spirit resulting in the person executing the will of God in a given situation whereas in the kingdom of the World, demons dwell in human body to speak the thoughts and the will of Devil to his/her spirit resulting in the person executing the will of the Devil in a given situation.
The first coming of Christ marked the beginning of the restoration of God's Kingdom on earth and the beginning of a fierce battle for dominion over mankind by God and Satan.
“Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” – Luke 17:20-21. He added “But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. How can anyone enter a strongman’s house and steal his possessions, unless he first ties the strongman? Then he can plunder his house” – Matthew 12:28
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
“As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of God has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons..."
This video is the evidence that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world's darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" - Ephesians 6:12
Paul the Apostle prepared us for the fierce spiritual battle which starts as soon as we make a decision to leave the kingdom of the World for the Kingdom of God. He said "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete." - 2 Corinthians 10:4-6
To resists the Devil, Paul said, "Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth (Spirit of God) buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness(Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control), in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6:13-17
The day of evil is a day the demon speaks pours his thoughts to your spirit with the intention to kill, steal and destroy. It is a day like the day evil spirits poured their thoughts to the guardians and biological mother of this very talented lady. It is a day like the day the evil spirit poured his thoughts to Jesus in the Wilderness. Matthew 4:1-11.
There MUST be unity of the spirit of God and the World of God in order for us to resist the schemes of the devil, as evidenced by Jesus' response when the spirit of darkness tempted him in the Wilderness and as taught by Paul the Apostle. Jesus resisted the devil with the scriptures. Therefore, it is a matter of life and death to read and write the scriptures in our hearts, and to recite them day and night in order to resist the spirits of darkness, in so doing, we will unlock uninterrupted flow of the thoughts of God in every step we take. Then we will be prosperous and successful.

I filmed this concert from my cell phone.. I tried to get the best footage possible without getting in her way on stage and without sacrificing video quality. Please excuse the occasional screen movement as my arms were getting tired from holding my phone up for 30 minutes.

Paul Michael Stephani. A prison inmate known as the "weepy-voiced killer" for his tearful phone calls taunting police in the 1980s has confessed to committing three murders, two of them previously unsolved. On December, 1997, Paul Michael Stephani, 53, told investigators he wanted to confess and apologize to the victims' families before he died from cancer. He has melanoma and has been told he less than a year to live.
In the taped confessions Stephani said he killed Kathy Greening, 33, who was found drowned in her Lauderdale bathtub in 1982. He said he also killed Kimberly Compton, 18, who was stabbed with an ice pick within hours of stepping off a bus in St. Paul in 1981. He also confessed to attacking a 20-year-old woman who was found stabbed and badly beaten, but still alive, along railroad tracks in St. Paul after leaving a New Year's party on Jan. 1, 1981.
Stephani also admitted killing Barbara Simons. He was convicted of stabbing her more than 100 times in Minneapolis in 1982, and sentenced to 40 years in prison. He also was sentenced to 18 years for stabbing Denise Williams of Minneapolis with a screwdriver in his car in 1982. Wounded by Williams, Stephani was finally arrested when he called for medical help and authorities recognized his voice.

In this episode, Black Hollywood Live host Ashida Onrae interviews Deniece Williams.
Born in Gary, Indiana, Deniece attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland in the hopes of becoming a registered nurse and an anesthetist. During that time she performed on the side. "I got a part-time job singing at a club, Casino Royal, and I liked it. It was a lot of fun." During those years, she also worked at a telephone company and as a ward clerk in the Chicago Mercy Hospital. But soon she would trade in these pursuits for a life of music.
As Denise Chandler, She recorded for The Toddlin' Town group of labels and one of those early records, 'I'm Walking Away' released on Toddlin' Town's 'Lock Records' subsidiary in the late 60′s, is a favorite on England's Northern Soul scene.
As her success grew, she found herself on the fast track. One thing led to another and Deniece became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of "Wonderlove." in the early 1970s. It was an exciting time and she experienced many things on her journey.
In 1975, Deniece decided to venture forward, leaving Stevie Wonder and signing with Columbia Records. She then teamed up with two famed producers: Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire, and his frequent collaborator, Charles Stepney. Her 1976 debut album entitled This Is Niecy was released. The single "Free" reached #2 on the Black Singles chart, #25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the British Singles chart. The album also featured "Cause You Love Me Baby" (which charted separately on the R&B; chart as the flip side of "Free") and "That's What Friends Are For". She also shared a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with pop singer Johnny Mathis in 1978 with the duet "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late". The duet also topped the Black Singles and Adult Contemporary charts. Williams also topped the dance charts with her disco single "I've Got the Next Dance". Mathis and Williams also recorded the popular theme to the 1980s sitcom Family Ties, "Without Us".
Williams moved on to the American Recording Company (ARC) in the early 1980s where she scored the top ten R&B; smash hit "Silly" in 1981. The following year, yet another famed producer, Thom Bell, helped Williams score another #1 R&B; chart-topper with her remake of The Royalettes' "It's Gonna Take a Miracle," which became a Top 10 pop hit as well, reaching #10.
Let's Hear it For the Boy
In 1984, Deniece released the album Let's Hear It for the Boy, in which the title track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was featured on the soundtrack to
Footloose. The song would prove to be the biggest pop hit of her career -- and the last. She also contributed vocals, along with Maurice White, to the song "And Then" from Weather Report's album Mr. Gone released in 1982. She continued releasing albums during the 1980s such as Hot On The Trail (1986), Water Under The Bridge (1987), and As Good As It Gets (1988), which featured her last Top Ten hit to date, "I Can't Wait", written by Skylark.
Gospel
Although Deniece had recorded one inspirational song on almost each of her albums, it was in 1980 that her musical career path began change toward one of her favorite things, Gospel music. She joined with friends Phillip Bailey (Earth, Wind and Fire fame), Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo to present a gospel show at a popular Los Angeles club named The Roxy. The show was called "Jesus At the Roxy". Deniece felt strongly about it saying, "God did something miraculous. Over three hundred people were saved", as reported in an interview with Gospel Today Magazine. After that, both Bailey and Williams decided to pursue careers in Christian music.
In 1983, Deniece and Bailey recorded "They Say", an atmospheric, slow praise song that builds towards the end with rousing words of praise. The song was written by songwriters Skip Scarborough and Terri McFaddin and received airplay on both Urban and Gospel Black radio. Deniece later recorded the song with Christian artist Sandi Patti and won a Grammy for it.
In 1984, Deniece sang a Gospel song at the 27th Annual Grammy Awards. She sang an acapella version of her 1977 composition "God Is Amazing". In 1986, she would release her first full-length gospel album, "So Glad I Know" (Sparrow 1121; # 8-gospel) which brought her two Grammy awards.
Deniece would continue to write, record and release Gospel music for the next several years. From 1996 to 2004, she presented her own BBC radio show in the UK, showcasing newgospel and inspirational music. During that time (1999) she recorded the Gospel album This Is My Song, which brought her another Grammy award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
