Charles "Charlie" Parker, Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955), also known as "Yardbird" and "Bird", was an American jazz saxophonist and composer.
Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique and advanced harmonies. Parker was a blazingly fast virtuoso, and he introduced revolutionary harmonic ideas including rapid passing chords, new variants of altered chords, and chord substitutions. His tone ranged from clean and penetrating to sweet and somber. Parker acquired the nickname "Yardbird" early in his career. This, and the shortened form "Bird", continued to be used for the rest of his life, inspiring the titles of a number of Parker compositions, such as "Yardbird Suite", "Ornithology", "Bird Gets the Worm", and "Bird of Paradise". Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual rather than just an entertainer.

A scientist by the name of Sarah Evans (Leilani Sarelle) shows up to help the town's sheriff (Reb Brown) and his deputy girlfriend Roberta (Sherrie Rose) hunt this thing down and put an end to the killings. At the same time, Hunter Crawford (David Campbell) is a thug-like character who along with his two henchmen, is hunting the creature himself, for his own personal gain and he does not care who he has to go through to accomplish this. Enter Charlie Parker (Ted Prior) a tough east coast type who is on a survivalist camping trip, led by the seasoned survivalist Sharon Farmer (Tara Sanford Kleinpeter) at the behest of his young trophy wife (Alissa Koenig) and whom, by no fault of his own, winds up being used as bait for the creature, by Hunter. But there is more at work here than meets the eye. A sinister plot is afoot and at its center is the vengeful Mister Testi (Frank Stallone). And in the end this plot takes a twist that no one will expect.

Recorded in a music studio, and videotaped later. (update Oct 2, 2014: there is now a title I didn't put here "Celebrity" which I think is wrong. I'm trying to delete it. What is the title? Anybody know?)

Did you realize at the time the effect you were going to have on Jazz-that you were going to change the entire scene in the next ten years? C.P. - well let's put it like this: no. I had no idea that it was that much different. J.M. - I'd like to stick in a question, if I may. I'd like to know why there was this violent change, after all - up until this time the way to play the alto sax w...
Recorded: New York City, NY, late May, early June 1950 Charlie Parker is interviewed here by Marshall Stearns and John Maher. Bird's wife, Chan Parker is also present. The exact location is unknown, although the date can be fixed by Parker's reference to his mother's graduation from nursing school on April 20, 1950. The original recording is sped up by the tape speed. I slowed it down and added a little noise reduction to it.
From his Google Hangout "Sonny Rollins Meets His Fans", the Saxophone Colossus offers his thoughts on Charlie Parker. Sonny's new recording, Road Shows, vol. 3 is here: http://smarturl.it/rs-road-vol3-dig

red rodney talks about charlie parker

Somewhere there's music
How faint the tune
Somewhere there's heaven
How high the moon
There is no moon above
When love is far away too
Till it comes true
That you love me as I love you
Somewhere there's music
How near, how far
Somewhere there's heaven
It's where you are
The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
How high the moon
Somewhere there's music
How faint the tune
Somewhere there's heaven
How high the moon
The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
