The region’s Partner States – the Republics Burundi, Kenya Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, are fully aware of the potential and have under the Umbrella of East African Community identified the region’s poor state of infrastructure as one of the critical elements hindering speedy economic growth
The idea of developing these prioritized infrastructure projects jointly is to strengthen the nascent East African Community common market and anchor it on a firm foundation of efficient transport and energy infrastructure. It is envisaged that these renewed infrastructure will spur rapid industrialization of the community economies and catapult them into middle income status

East Africa is one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the world and its magnificent wilderness and fascinating wildlife is one of the few remaining unspoiled regions on earth. Lake Naivasha is the ideal habitat for both the rare Fish Eagle and African Eagle, thus it is a perfect location from which to observe these fascinating birds. Due to its rich variety of wildlife and the spectacular beauty of its landscape Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The Massai Mara National Park is located around six hours from Nairobi and is one of the country’s most extraordinary game reserves. Its name indicates the presence of one of Africa’s most colourful tribes, the Massai. The Amboseli National Park also contains many of East Africa’s most important landscapes and represents the magnificence of the African flora and fauna that grows in this relatively small, protected area. The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

The legacy of the Arab slave trade is seen in the ongoing conflict between South Sudan and the Arabized peoples of Sudan. And that slavery trade continues in muted tones in modern day Africa although many ignore it. The arabized peoples like the slave that served in the master's house are worse at hating their own. Yet nothing is more barbaric than the enslavement of one human being by another, be it in the name of religion, economics or madness. That is the sole reason why the warrior tribes of South Sudan have for generations resisted that Arab slavery and triumphed. The new nation of South Sudan was born out of the blood of many martyrs.

The SGR project is using high Chinese modern equipment and standards, the management of the project by the Chinese firm will enable the completion of the project in record time.
As the first time that the standard technology has been introduced in Kenya and Africa at large, a lot of "first of it’s kinds" were setted.

Lake Naivasha is the ideal habitat for both the rare Fish Eagle and African Eagle, thus it is a perfect location from which to observe these fascinating birds. Due to its rich variety of wildlife and the spectacular beauty of its landscape Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The Massai Mara National Park is located around six hours from Nairobi and is one of the country’s most extraordinary game reserves. Its name indicates the presence of one of Africa’s most colourful tribes, the Massai. The Amboseli National Park also contains many of East Africa’s most important landscapes and represents the magnificence of the African flora and fauna that grows in this relatively small, protected area. The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. But some people think this movement of livestock is bad for the environment. They say pastoralists should settle on farms and grow their own food, especially in times of shortages. Not everyone agrees. Experts recently met in Nairobi to discuss what to do about food shortages caused by drought. They say pastoralists make the best use of resources. David Mwangi at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute says grasslands have time to recover. He says pastoralists have to leave an area as soon as the water is exhausted. They move to the next area that has water. It gives the area they left time to regenerate before they come back.Mr. Mwangi says the land used for animals is often not good enough for farming, especially during droughts. He and other experts say pastoralism makes the most sense for dry and semi-dry lands. Jeff Hill directs policy for the Bureau of Food Aid at the United States Agency for International Development. He says arid and semi-arid lands represent about eighty percent of the Horn of Africa. Livestock-based economies in these areas provide up to forty percent of agricultural production in Ethiopia and fifty percent in Kenya. And in Somalia, Mr. Hill says, the percentage is even higher. "In Somalia, livestock systems fuel the economy." An estimated ninety percent of the meat eaten in East Africa comes from pastoralist herds. Mr. Hill says Kenya and other governments have only recently recognized the value of arid and semi-arid lands. These lands have often been excluded from government planning and road building. Herders can face limited access to grazing and watering areas.Researcher David Mwangi says communities need to be creative with the resources they have. He says a good example is a project in Kenya in which grass is grown in the desert to feed livestock. "What would happen if we developed a system where we grow fodder and pasture along the river and the animals are taken off from the range and finished nearer to the market? What we need is a system, and that is what has been really lacking." He also says more efforts need to be put into raising camels. "In Somalia, livestock systems fuel the economy." An estimated ninety percent of the meat eaten in East Africa comes from pastoralist herds. Mr. Hill says Kenya and other governments have only recently recognized the value of arid and semi-arid lands. These lands have often been excluded from government planning and road building. Herders can face limited access to grazing and watering areas.Researcher David Mwangi says communities need to be creative with the resources they have. He says a good example is a project in Kenya in which grass is grown in the desert to feed livestock. "What would happen if we developed a system where we grow fodder and pasture along the river and the animals are taken off from the range and finished nearer to the market? What we need is a system, and that is what has been really lacking." He also says more efforts need to be put into raising camels. Camels are often the only animals that produce milk during a drought.For VOA Special English, I'm Alex Villarreal.

The Ajuran Sultanate, also spelled as the Ajuuraan Sultanate, was a Somali empire that ruled over large parts of the Horn of Africa in the Middle Ages. Through a strong centralized administration and an aggressive military stance towards invaders, the Ajuran Sultanate successfully resisted an Oromo invasion from the west and a Portuguese incursion from the east during the Gaal Madow and the Ajuran-Portuguese wars. Trading routes dating from the ancient and early medieval periods of Somali maritime enterprise were strengthened or re-established, and foreign trade and commerce in the coastal provinces flourished with ships sailing to and coming from many kingdoms and empires in East Asia, South Asia, Europe, the Near East, North Africa and East Africa.
