German filmmaker Doris Dorrie writes and directs this subtle drama exploring themes of love, death and quiet longing. When an elderly German woman, Trudi (Hannelore Eisner), learns that her husband Rudi (Elmar Wepper) is terminally ill, she chooses not to tell him, and instead suggests that they take a trip to visit their grown-up children.
When fate intervenesy, Rudi learns that his wife has always longed to go to Japan, and heads there during the cherry blossom season (Hanami) to fulfil her wishes and take stock of his life.

INHALT
Nur Trudi ( Hannelore Elsner ) weiß, dass ihr an Krebs erkrankter Rudi (Elmar Wepper) nur noch wenige Wochen zu Leben hat. Und es liegt an ihr, ob sie es ihm mitteilen will oder nicht!!! Der Arzt schlägt eine letzte gemeinsame Unternehmung vor, etwas, was die beiden sich vielleicht schon länger vorgenommen, aber nie getan haben!
Anstatt ihm mit dieser Nachricht den Lebensmut zu entziehen, beschließt Trudi, die Erkrankung geheim zu halten und den Rat ihres Arztes zu folgen und unternimmt mit ihm eine letzte Reise zu ihren Kindern und Enkelkindern nach Berlin.
Der Besuch verläuft anders als geplant, dort angekommen, sehen die beiden, wie beschäftigt alle sind, die Eltern fühlen sich als Störenfriede im betriebsamen Leben ihrer Kinder und reisen weiter an die Ostsee und mieten ein Hotel auf Usedom. Hier kommt es zu einer tragischen Wendung.
Dort stirbt plötzlich Trudi - Rudi ist völlig aus der Bahn geworfen und weiß nicht wie es weiter gehen soll. Als er dann auch noch von der Freundin seiner Tochter Franzi (Nadja Uhl) erfährt, dass Trudi das Leben, das sie Leben wollte, offenbar aus Liebe zu ihm geopfert hat, sieht er seine verstorbene Frau mit neuen Augen.
Er beginnt,ihr verpasstes Leben wieder gut zu machen....

Kirschblüten - Hanami
erzählt eine Familiengeschichte sowie die Reise eines Menschen in eine völlig andere Kultur, in der er auf sich gestellt ist. Der Film ist sehr ruhig erzählt und arbeitet hauptsächlich mit den durch Mimik und Gestik veranschaulichten Gefühlen. Trudi ist der Inbegriff einer fürsorglichen Ehefrau, die alle Bedürfnisse hinten anstellt, damit es ihrem Mann gut geht. Als sie stirbt, was für den Zuschauer völlig unerwartet geschieht, bleibt Elmar Wepper als Rudi für den weiteren Film die Hauptfigur. Ihm gelingt es überraschend gut, die schwierige Rolle zu tragen. Sein Bestreben, seiner Frau auch nach ihrem Tod Japan zu zeigen, ist ungemein rührend, insbesondere, wenn er in Trudis Kleidern durch die Straßen läuft, damit sie die Kultur "hautnah" erleben kann. Unterstützung findet er dabei in Yu, einer Butoh-Tänzerin, mit der er durch Trudis Liebe zu dem Tanz in Kontakt kommt. Die Beiden können sich kaum verständigen und trotzdem wird Yu für Rudi eine unentbehrliche und wertvolle Hilfe auf der Reise zum Mount Fuji.
Diesen Wunsch kann er ihr letztlich erfüllen und kann erst dann selbst Abschied von der Welt nehmen.

Cherry Blossoms (film)
Cherry Blossoms (German: Kirschblüten – Hanami) is a 2008 German drama film directed by Doris Dörrie. This film, starring Elmar Wepper, Hannelore Elsner and Aya Irizuki, tells the story of Rudi: terminally ill, he travels to Japan after the sudden death of his wife Trudi – in order to make up for missed opportunities in life.
Plot
The story culminates in a pilgrimage to Mount Fuji in the midst of the cherry blossom season, a celebration of beauty, impermanence, and new beginnings.
Trudi (Hannelore Elsner) and Rudi (Elmar Wepper) are an affectionate, long-married couple whose children have grown up and moved away. They live in a small Bavarian village. Trudi learns that her husband is terminally ill. The doctor suggests a final adventure, which the two wanted to have for some time, but never managed.
Trudi decides to keep the disease secret from Rudi. She manages to convince him to visit their children and grandchildren in Berlin. But when they arrive, they realize that their children are too busy with their own lives to take care of the parents. Then they decide to drive to the Baltic Sea. But there, Trudi suddenly dies. Rudi is thrown completely off track and doesn't know how to go on. After he learns from his daughter's girlfriend that Trudi has actually sacrificed her life out of love for him, he starts to see his dead wife with new eyes.

INHALT
Nur Trudi ( Hannelore Elsner ) weiß, dass ihr an Krebs erkrankter Rudi (Elmar Wepper) nur noch wenige Wochen zu Leben hat. Und es liegt an ihr, ob sie es ihm mitteilen will oder nicht!!! Der Arzt schlägt eine letzte gemeinsame Unternehmung vor, etwas, was die beiden sich vielleicht schon länger vorgenommen, aber nie getan haben!
Anstatt ihm mit dieser Nachricht den Lebensmut zu entziehen, beschließt Trudi, die Erkrankung geheim zu halten und den Rat ihres Arztes zu folgen und unternimmt mit ihm eine letzte Reise zu ihren Kindern und Enkelkindern nach Berlin.
Der Besuch verläuft anders als geplant, dort angekommen, sehen die beiden, wie beschäftigt alle sind, die Eltern fühlen sich als Störenfriede im betriebsamen Leben ihrer Kinder und reisen weiter an die Ostsee und mieten ein Hotel auf Usedom. Hier kommt es zu einer tragischen Wendung.
Dort stirbt plötzlich Trudi - Rudi ist völlig aus der Bahn geworfen und weiß nicht wie es weiter gehen soll. Als er dann auch noch von der Freundin seiner Tochter Franzi (Nadja Uhl) erfährt, dass Trudi das Leben, das sie Leben wollte, offenbar aus Liebe zu ihm geopfert hat, sieht er seine verstorbene Frau mit neuen Augen.
Er beginnt,ihr verpasstes Leben wieder gut zu machen....

erzählt eine Familiengeschichte sowie die Reise eines Menschen in eine völlig andere Kultur, in der er auf sich gestellt ist. My calligraphy needs more work, but its supposed to be the Chinese representation of my name "Manuel", and my stamp means "Life Goes On", in honor of my late father.
