That odd, little foreigner with the strange mustache description Hercule Poirot is at it again!
In Murder in the Mews, a collection of shorts, Poirot's razor-sharp mind is pitted against such stumpers as a suicide/murder conundrum, a deadly love triangle, and a case of important papers gone missing.
Originally four short stories were published under this title, which was called Dead Man's Mirror here in the States. My version only included three stories: Murder in the Mews, Triangle at Rhodes, and The Incredible Theft.
The title story is the most intriguing and most well developed. The remaining two were quite enjoyable, if a bit quick and just a tad perfunctory…just a tad, mind you.
Poirot, that charming if arrogant sleuth, is clever as ever in unearthing the truth, an absolute pleasure to observe in action. Christie's plotting was relatively tight with an occasionally smart twist or two. Her characters are serviceable as always, though few really stood out as some have in her other stories. All in all, if you're already an Agatha Christie fan, you won't go wrong with Murder in the Mews.

Die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag einer alten Jugendfreundin wirbelt das bis dahin glückliche Leben der Baumgartners schwer durcheinander und lässt sie am bisherigen Lebenskonzept zweifeln.
Marie und Markus Baumgartner sind ein Bilderbuch-Paar. Doch beruflicher Alltag und zwei Kinder lassen die Eheleute kaum durchatmen. Wie gerufen kommt da die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag von Maries ehemals bester Schulfreundin Heike, inklusive langem Wochenende.
Kurzerhand engagieren die Baumgartners Opa Walter (Peter Prager) als Babysitter und fahren in Maries (Stefanie Stappenbeck) alte bayerische Heimat. Die Überraschung vor Ort ist groß: Heike (Christina Hecke) hat alles erreicht, was die beiden Freundinnen früher für sich erträumt hatten. Aus dem pummeligen Entlein ist ein schöner Schwan geworden, sie lebt ihren Traumberuf Fotografin. Mit ihrem smarten Mann Hans (Götz Otto) bewohnt sie ein Traumhaus am See.
Während ihr Ehemann Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) die angenehme Atmosphäre im Haus der Freunde gleich genießt, keimt in Marie ein Gefühl von Neid auf. Warum ist sie nicht auch so erfüllt und glücklich? Waren denn alle Entscheidungen, die sie für ihr Leben getroffen hat, am Ende falsch? Und warum ist sie nicht die Ärztin geworden, für die sie sich nun aus Scham ausgibt – sondern Sprechstundenhilfe? Sogar Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) ist ihr plötzlich nicht mehr gut genug.
Als Marie auf ihren alten Jugendschwarm Flori (Stephan Luca), einen gealterten Surferboy, trifft und anfängt, ihr bisheriges Leben infrage zu stellen, ist für Markus die Grenze erreicht. Er startet eine Gegenoffensive. Ist ja nicht so, dass er keine Träume hatte, die dem Konzept Familie "geopfert" wurden. Schließlich war er mal ein ganz ambitionierter Jungschriftsteller - wo war doch gleich noch das alte Manuskript?
Im neuen Anzug und eloquent punktet Markus auf der Feier bei den weiblichen Gästen, nicht zuletzt mit einer unterhaltsamen Lesung aus seinem alten Manuskript. Die attraktive Verlegerin Carolina ist nicht nur fachlich an Markus interessiert. Obwohl Marie durch Floris Anwesenheit abgelenkt ist, entgeht ihr Markus Wandlung nicht.
Heikes Geburtstagsfeier wird zum Tanz auf dem Vulkan für das Ehepaar, bis beiden plötzlich klar wird, welches Pfund sie da aufs Spiel setzen. Doch wie rudert man zurück, ohne sein Gesicht zu verlieren? Da hilft nur der "Sprung ins kalte Wasser". Der Morgen nach Heikes Feier wird zur Stunde der Wahrheit. Alle kleinen und größeren Lügen kommen auf den Tisch, aber reicht der Mut zur Schwäche auch aus, um die Ehe der Baumgartners zu retten?

Auch is a very ancient town, whose settlement was noted by the Romans during their conquest of the area in the 50s BC. At that time, it was settled by an Aquitanian tribe known to the Romans as the Ausci. Their name for the town was Climberrum or Elimberris. This has been tentatively etymologized from the Iberian iltir ("town, oppidum") and a cognate of the Basque berri ("new"), although another Iberian settlement in Granada recorded by the Romans as "Iliberi" probably had no contact with proto-Basque speaking peoples. Following their conquest, the Romans renamed the town Augusta Auscorum or Ausciorum ("Augusta of the Ausci"). Augusta Auscorum was one of the twelve civitates of the province of Novempopulana (Gascony) and became the provincial capital after the 409 destruction of Eauze by the Vandals.

Hercule Poirot
Hercule Poirot (/ɜːrˈkjuːl pwɑːrˈoʊ/; French pronunciation: [ɛʁkyl pwaʁo]) is a fictional Belgian detective, created by Agatha Christie. Poirot is one of Christie's most famous and long-lived characters, appearing in 33 novels, one play (Black Coffee), and more than 50 short stories published between 1920 and 1975.
Poirot has been portrayed on radio, in film and on television by various actors, including John Moffatt, Albert Finney, Sir Peter Ustinov, Sir Ian Holm, Tony Randall, Alfred Molina, Orson Welles and, most notably, David Suchet.

Influences
Poirot's name was derived from two other fictional detectives of the time: Marie Belloc Lowndes' Hercule Popeau and Frank Howel Evans' Monsieur Poiret, a retired Belgian police officer living in London.
A more obvious influence on the early Poirot stories is that of Arthur Conan Doyle. In An Autobiography, Christie states, "I was still writing in the Sherlock Holmes tradition – eccentric detective, stooge assistant, with a Lestrade-type Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Japp". For his part, Conan Doyle acknowledged basing his detective stories on the model of Edgar Allan Poe's C. Auguste Dupin and his anonymous narrator, and basing his character Sherlock Holmes on Joseph Bell, who in his use of "ratiocination" prefigured Poirot's reliance on his "little grey cells".

Agatha Christie
Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE (née Miller; 15 September 1890 – 12 January 1976) was an English crime novelist, short story writer and playwright. She also wrote six romances under the name Mary Westmacott, but she is best known for the 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections that she wrote under her own name, most of which revolve around the investigative work of such characters as Hercule Poirot, Jane Marple, Parker Pyne, Harley Quin/Mr Satterthwaite and Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. She wrote the world's longest-running play, a murder mystery, The Mousetrap. In 1971 she was made a Dame for her contribution to literature.
Christie was born into a wealthy upper-middle-class family in Torquay, Devon. She served in a hospital during the First World War before marrying and starting a family in London. She was initially unsuccessful at getting her work published, but in 1920 The Bodley Head press published her novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles, featuring the character of Hercule Poirot. This launched her literary career.

That odd, little foreigner with the strange mustache description Hercule Poirot is at it again! In Murder in the Mews, a collection of shorts, Poirot's razor-sharp mind is pitted against such stumpers as a suicide/murder conundrum, a deadly love triangle, and a case of important papers gone missing. Originally four short stories were published under this title, which was called Dead Man's Mirror here in the States. My version only included three stories: Murder in the Mews, Triangle at Rhodes, and The Incredible Theft. The title story is the most intriguing and most well developed. The remaining two were quite enjoyable, if a bit quick and just a tad perfunctory…just a tad, mind you. Poirot, that charming if arrogant sleuth, is clever as ever in unearthing the truth, an absolute pleasure to observe in action. Christie's plotting was relatively tight with an occasionally smart twist or two. Her characters are serviceable as always, though few really stood out as some have in her other stories. All in all, if you're already an Agatha Christie fan, you won't go wrong with Murder in the Mews. -

Die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag einer alten Jugendfreundin wirbelt das bis dahin glückliche Leben der Baumgartners schwer durcheinander und lässt sie am bisherigen Lebenskonzept zweifeln. Marie und Markus Baumgartner sind ein Bilderbuch-Paar. Doch beruflicher Alltag und zwei Kinder lassen die Eheleute kaum durchatmen. Wie gerufen kommt da die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag von Maries ehemals bester Schulfreundin Heike, inklusive langem Wochenende. Kurzerhand engagieren die Baumgartners Opa Walter (Peter Prager) als Babysitter und fahren in Maries (Stefanie Stappenbeck) alte bayerische Heimat. Die Überraschung vor Ort ist groß: Heike (Christina Hecke) hat alles erreicht, was die beiden Freundinnen früher für sich erträumt hatten. Aus dem pummeligen Entlein ist ein schöner Schwan geworden, sie lebt ihren Traumberuf Fotografin. Mit ihrem smarten Mann Hans (Götz Otto) bewohnt sie ein Traumhaus am See. Während ihr Ehemann Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) die angenehme Atmosphäre im Haus der Freunde gleich genießt, keimt in Marie ein Gefühl von Neid auf. Warum ist sie nicht auch so erfüllt und glücklich? Waren denn alle Entscheidungen, die sie für ihr Leben getroffen hat, am Ende falsch? Und warum ist sie nicht die Ärztin geworden, für die sie sich nun aus Scham ausgibt – sondern Sprechstundenhilfe? Sogar Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) ist ihr plötzlich nicht mehr gut genug. Als Marie auf ihren alten Jugendschwarm Flori (Stephan Luca), einen gealterten Surferboy, trifft und anfängt, ihr bisheriges Leben infrage zu stellen, ist für Markus die Grenze erreicht. Er startet eine Gegenoffensive. Ist ja nicht so, dass er keine Träume hatte, die dem Konzept Familie "geopfert" wurden. Schließlich war er mal ein ganz ambitionierter Jungschriftsteller - wo war doch gleich noch das alte Manuskript? Im neuen Anzug und eloquent punktet Markus auf der Feier bei den weiblichen Gästen, nicht zuletzt mit einer unterhaltsamen Lesung aus seinem alten Manuskript. Die attraktive Verlegerin Carolina ist nicht nur fachlich an Markus interessiert. Obwohl Marie durch Floris Anwesenheit abgelenkt ist, entgeht ihr Markus Wandlung nicht. Heikes Geburtstagsfeier wird zum Tanz auf dem Vulkan für das Ehepaar, bis beiden plötzlich klar wird, welches Pfund sie da aufs Spiel setzen. Doch wie rudert man zurück, ohne sein Gesicht zu verlieren? Da hilft nur der "Sprung ins kalte Wasser". Der Morgen nach Heikes Feier wird zur Stunde der Wahrheit. Alle kleinen und größeren Lügen kommen auf den Tisch, aber reicht der Mut zur Schwäche auch aus, um die Ehe der Baumgartners zu retten?

In Murder in the Mews, a collection of shorts, Poirot's razor-sharp mind is pitted against such stumpers as a suicide/murder conundrum, a deadly love triangle, and a case of important papers gone missing.
Originally four short stories were published under this title, which was called Dead Man's Mirror here in the States. My version only included three stories: Murder in the Mews, Triangle at Rhodes, and The Incredible Theft.
The title story is the most intriguing and most well developed. The remaining two were quite enjoyable, if a bit quick and just a tad perfunctory…just a tad, mind you.
Poirot, that charming if arrogant sleuth, is clever as ever in unearthing the truth, an absolute pleasure to observe in action. Christie's plotting was relatively tight with an occasionally smart twist or two. Her characters are serviceable as always, though few really stood out as some have in her other stories. All in all, if you're already an Agatha Christie fan, you won't go wrong with Murder in the Mews.

Die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag einer alten Jugendfreundin wirbelt das bis dahin glückliche Leben der Baumgartners schwer durcheinander und lässt sie am bisherigen Lebenskonzept zweifeln.
Marie und Markus Baumgartner sind ein Bilderbuch-Paar. Doch beruflicher Alltag und zwei Kinder lassen die Eheleute kaum durchatmen. Wie gerufen kommt da die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag von Maries ehemals bester Schulfreundin Heike, inklusive langem Wochenende.
Kurzerhand engagieren die Baumgartners Opa Walter (Peter Prager) als Babysitter und fahren in Maries (Stefanie Stappenbeck) alte bayerische Heimat. Die Überraschung vor Ort ist groß: Heike (Christina Hecke) hat alles erreicht, was die beiden Freundinnen früher für sich erträumt hatten. Aus dem pummeligen Entlein ist ein schöner Schwan geworden, sie lebt ihren Traumberuf Fotografin. Mit ihrem smarten Mann Hans (Götz Otto) bewohnt sie ein Traumhaus am See.
Während ihr Ehemann Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) die angenehme Atmosphäre im Haus der Freunde gleich genießt, keimt in Marie ein Gefühl von Neid auf. Warum ist sie nicht auch so erfüllt und glücklich? Waren denn alle Entscheidungen, die sie für ihr Leben getroffen hat, am Ende falsch? Und warum ist sie nicht die Ärztin geworden, für die sie sich nun aus Scham ausgibt – sondern Sprechstundenhilfe? Sogar Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) ist ihr plötzlich nicht mehr gut genug.
Als Marie auf ihren alten Jugendschwarm Flori (Stephan Luca), einen gealterten Surferboy, trifft und anfängt, ihr bisheriges Leben infrage zu stellen, ist für Markus die Grenze erreicht. Er startet eine Gegenoffensive. Ist ja nicht so, dass er keine Träume hatte, die dem Konzept Familie "geopfert" wurden. Schließlich war er mal ein ganz ambitionierter Jungschriftsteller - wo war doch gleich noch das alte Manuskript?
Im neuen Anzug und eloquent punktet Markus auf der Feier bei den weiblichen Gästen, nicht zuletzt mit einer unterhaltsamen Lesung aus seinem alten Manuskript. Marie und Markus Baumgartner sind ein Bilderbuch-Paar. Doch beruflicher Alltag und zwei Kinder lassen die Eheleute kaum durchatmen. Wie gerufen kommt da die Einladung zum 40. Geburtstag von Maries ehemals bester Schulfreundin Heike, inklusive langem Wochenende.
Kurzerhand engagieren die Baumgartners Opa Walter (Peter Prager) als Babysitter und fahren in Maries (Stefanie Stappenbeck) alte bayerische Heimat. Die Überraschung vor Ort ist groß: Heike (Christina Hecke) hat alles erreicht, was die beiden Freundinnen früher für sich erträumt hatten. Aus dem pummeligen Entlein ist ein schöner Schwan geworden, sie lebt ihren Traumberuf Fotografin. Mit ihrem smarten Mann Hans (Götz Otto) bewohnt sie ein Traumhaus am See.
Während ihr Ehemann Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) die angenehme Atmosphäre im Haus der Freunde gleich genießt, keimt in Marie ein Gefühl von Neid auf. Warum ist sie nicht auch so erfüllt und glücklich? Waren denn alle Entscheidungen, die sie für ihr Leben getroffen hat, am Ende falsch? Und warum ist sie nicht die Ärztin geworden, für die sie sich nun aus Scham ausgibt – sondern Sprechstundenhilfe? Sogar Markus (Matthias Koeberlin) ist ihr plötzlich nicht mehr gut genug.
Als Marie auf ihren alten Jugendschwarm Flori (Stephan Luca), einen gealterten Surferboy, trifft und anfängt, ihr bisheriges Leben infrage zu stellen, ist für Markus die Grenze erreicht. Er startet eine Gegenoffensive. Ist ja nicht so, dass er keine Träume hatte, die dem Konzept Familie "geopfert" wurden. Schließlich war er mal ein ganz ambitionierter Jungschriftsteller - wo war doch gleich noch das alte Manuskript?

Indulge in the bustling activity there, listen to Arabic story tellers, watch magicians and Chleuh dancers. Fez, once Morocco's capital, is another gorgeous imperial city. Get lost in its lovely labyrinth of narrow Medieval streets, enjoy its huge medina, see the beautiful city gates, the ancient University of Al-Karaouine and the Bou Inania Madrasa. Also, make sure to visit a traditional leather tanning factory. The city of Meknes is often called the "Versailles of Morocco" for its beauty. For a more laid-back experience of city life, catch a sea breeze at Asilah or lovely Essaouira. The blue-washed town of Chefchaouen is an old time travellers' favourite and a great starting point to explore the impressive High Atlas Mountains. Climb Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North-Africa, passing lovely adobe villages and exploring the gorgeous Ourika and Amizmiz valleys on the way. The stunning panoramic view from the top will make it worth every bit of your effort to get there. Other praised hiking routes lead through the beautiful Ameln Valley in the Anti-Atlas and the wooded Rif Mountains in the very north.
Hop on a camel back for a trip through the golden Sahara sand dunes at Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga. Spend the night in a desert tent, under the incredibly starred sky. The Sahara is also accessible near the town of Zagora; it's easier to get to from Marrakech but doesn't have the imposing dunes of Erg Chebbi. Somewhat less easy to reach but therefor also less crowded are the dunes of Erg Chigaga near M'hamid. On your way to the desert, make sure not to miss the stunning Todra gorge near Tinghir. The ancient fortified city of Aït-Benhaddou is another must-see sight. Although rainstorms damage the mud-brick kasbahs time and again, this mostly abandoned village remains an impressive sight and has been the decor for a range of movies, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.

The first is the tourist hammam, where you can go and be pampered and scrubbed by an experienced staff member. As these are promoted only to tourists they are the more expensive option with pricing usually around DH 150 for a hammam. They can not be technically referred to as a proper hammam, but they are nonetheless enjoyable, especially for the timid. Your hotel can recommend a good one.
The second option is to visit a "popular" Hammam. Popular hammams are the places where the locals go. Ask the staff at your hotel where they would go.

Zurich is the most important economic, scientific and social center of Switzerland. The city lies in the eastern Swiss Plateau, on the Lake Zurich. Its inhabitants are called "Zürcher".
For years, Zurich is one of the cities with the highest quality of life and listed the highest cost of living simultaneously. Since 2012, Zurich is regarded as the most expensive city in the world, followed by Tokyo and Geneva.
With its main railway station, the largest station in Switzerland , and the airport, the city of Zurich is a continental transportation hub and thanks to the local big banks (including UBS and Credit Suisse ) and insurances (Zurich Insurance Group and Swiss Re) an international financial center and the largest financial center Switzerland, followed by Geneva and Lugano. Despite the relatively small population Zurich is therefore considered one of the world's cities. Halifax, die Hauptstadt der Provinz Nova Scotia, bildet mit Dartmouth und Bedford ein zusammenhängendes Siedlungsgebiet für weit über eine Viertelmillion Menschen. Dartmouth und Halifax trennt der Hafen und verbindet seit Mitte des 18. Jh. eine Fähre.
Außerdem überspannen zwei große Mautbrücken die Bucht.
Seit jeher ist Halifax ein bedeutender Hafen, und somit verwundert es nicht, dass hier die größte militärische Einrichtung Kanadas angesiedelt ist, die Basis der Atlantikflotte. Auch die Küstenwache hat hier ihren Hauptsitz.
Im Zentrum der Hafenfront liegen die restaurierten Backsteinhäuser und Lagerhallen, die so genannten Historic Properties, die heute wie die ausgedienten Hafengebäude mit Kneipen, Einkaufspassagen, Museen und Galerien für ein zahlungskräftiges Publikum gestaltet wurden. Die ganze äußerlich originalgetreue Anlage bietet einen viel besuchten Anziehungspunkt für Touristen, die dabei auch Schiffe beobachten, oder Glasbläsern bei der Arbeit zuschauen können.
In den Einkaufspassagen befinden sich die üblichen Souvenirs für Touristen, aber wer geduldig sucht, findet auch Raritäten.
Bei alledem hat man stets das Wahrzeichen der Stadt vor Augen, den im Auftrag von Prinz Edward, Herzog von Kent, Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts vor der Zitadelle errichteten Glockenturm, der die Bürger zu mehr Pünktlichkeit erziehen sollte.
Das neben den Historic Properties liegende Kasino mit angeschlossenem Hotel beherrscht den Nordteil der Hafenfront.
Die historische Alexander Keith Brauerei, ein weiterer aufwendig restaurierter Teil der Freizeitmeile dieser Hafenlandschaft beherrscht den Südteil.
Manchmal sieht man im Hafen den Segler Bluenose II. Das Original hielt Anfang des 20. Jh. achtzehn Jahre lang die internationale Fischerei Trophäe als schnellster nordamerikanischer Segler seiner Klasse. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg verloren Segelschiffe ihre Bedeutung; die Bluenose diente zunächst noch als Frachtschiff und sank 1946 bei den westindischen Inseln. In den 60er Jahren wurde die Bluenose II in Lunenburg dem Original nachgebaut und ist heute auf der kanadischen 10 Cent Münze verewigt.
Wenn das Wetter es erlaubt, kann man mit einem der originellen Amphibienfahrzeuge, den Harbour Hoppers, zu einer Stadtrundfahrt aufbrechen.

Since time immemorial, Halifax is a major port and thus it is not surprising that the largest military installation in Canada, the base of the Atlantic Fleet and the headquarters of the Coast Guard are settled here.
In the center of the harbor front you see the restored brick buildings and warehouses, the so-called Historic Properties. Together with the disused harbor buildings, they serve today as pubs as well as shopping malls, museums and galleries for a solvent customers. The exterior of the whole complex is true to the original. The Historic Properties are a much-visited attraction for tourists. Here one can watch the ships as well as glass blowers at work.
In the shopping arcades, the usual souvenirs are offered to the tourists. Those who seek patiently can find some rarities.
Always present is the emblem of the town, the bell tower set up at the beginning of the 19th century in front of the citadel on behalf of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. It should teach the citizens more punctuality.
The casino with an attached hotel next to the Historic Properties dominates the northern part of the harbor front.

Sometimes you can see the sailing ship Bluenose II in the harbor. In the early 20th century, the original Bluenose held the international fishing trophy as the fastest North American sailing ship in its class for eighteen years. During World War II sailing ships lost their meaning; the Bluenose at first still served as a cargo ship and sank in 1946 in the West Indies. In the 60s, the Bluenose II was rebuilt to the original in Lunenburg and is now immortalized on the Canadian 10 cent coin.
Weather permitting, you can take a city tour with one of the original amphibious vehicles, the Harbour Hopper.
