Anyone with an interest in the design of products that create positive and engaging experiences for the user should explore becoming a user interface (UI) designer. UI designers work across many industries including software design, user research, web design or industrial design and are involved in a wide range of projects from computer systems and software applications to cars and commercial plants.
At the heart of what UI designers do is the design of great user interfaces that make something user friendly, reliable, efficient and useful. That could be designing a website, a smartphone application or a computer based application. UI designers work at shaping ideas into concrete concepts and user experience designs. This many be creating complex user interfaces for computer programs, databases or websites.
Most UI designers have a good knowledge of HTML, Flash and other computing publishing environments as well as an understanding of software code. Often UI designers are employed by companies and work in a team environment. Sometimes they work as consultants.
User interface designers' day-to-day responsibilities will vary according to the industry they work within. Most user interface designers will work closely with product and engineering teams to develop clean and well-executed design concepts. They are responsible for brainstorming new ideas, taking user feedback onboard and making user interfaces
