Pulimurugan trailer: Mohanlal is all set to give action a WILD twist in this Vysakh film

Pulimurugan is Mohanlal’s most ambitious film in recent times. The film is directed by Vyshakh, and had gone through delays, missing its release date a couple of times. However, the film is now scheduled to release on October 7, thus making Lalettan fans very happy as they are quite looking forward to watch the film.

With Oppam becoming the biggest hit among the Onam releases, we can say Mohanlal has got his groove back at the box office, with even his bilingual Janatha Garage, making records. This would be a do or die project for Vyshakh, after having made mass entertainers that didn’t earn enough critical acclaim, as well as delivering a huge dud with Kunchacko Boban’s Vishudhan, his last film. Scenarist Udayakrishna, of the Udayakrishna-Siby K. Thomas duo, is going solo with Pulimurugan, where Mohanlal plays the title character.

The teaser, released a couple of months back, had his fans salivating at the prospect for seeing their fave superstar doing something different with action, and also in a different getup. The trailer, that is out now, gives us a bigger picture of the action scenes, though there is no dialogue yet. It’s like the director wants to tell us that the action scenes are going to be the big highlight of the film, and we can’t help but agree with him. This is the first time Vyshakh is directing Mohanlal, after directing Mammootty and Prithviraj in Pokkiri Raja, Jayaram and Biju Menon in Seniors and Dileep in Sound Thoma. The film also stars Lal, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Suraj Venjaramoodu, M. R. Gopakumar, Bala, Kishore, KPAC Lalitha and Jagapathi Babu.

The trailer shows two kids at first in a jungle setup, with the elder kid looking after the younger from an unknown danger lurking around. Then we get a hint of what the danger is as we see a tiger’s paw, before Mohanlal makes his grand entry as Pulimurugan. We then see him doing all types of stunts as he takes on the bad guys, while we also see glimpses of the characters played by Lal, Kamalinee Mukherji, Suraj and Bala. At the end of the trailer, we see the tiger properly for the first time chasing after a young kid.

Here’s what we liked in the Pulimurugan trailer and what we didn’t…

What’s hot

The trailer is a treat for all Mohanlal fans as they get to see their fave star in action, and yet doing something different. The scale of the film, as promised by the trailer, is also exciting as the entire film seems to be set in a jungle with a predator on the prowl. However, the best scenes are the action sequences where Mohanlal kicks the asses of the villains (yeah, it might be his dupe as the stupid controversy is raging…so what’s the big deal?). Peter Hein’s action choreography is first rate, and we do hope the film lives up to the fight scenes.

What’s not

As much I love the action scenes, I can’t help but not point out the obvious references from other films that Pulimurugan’s scenes look inspired from. Mohanlal’s much talked about costume is similar to what Vijay wore in Puli. There is a reference from Spider-Man, while the last scene is reminiscent of The Jungle Book.
