by Louie Korac / NHL.com CorrespondentST. LOUIS -- Vladimir Tarasenko scored with 1:36 remaining in overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win against the Dallas Stars at Scottrade Center on Monday.
Tarasenko took a pass to the low slot from Jori Lehtera and beat goalie Antti Niemi for his 10th goal.
David Perron, Robby Fabbri and Alex Pietrangelo also scored for the Blues (13-7-3), who have earned at least a point in 10 straight home games (8-0-2) and are 10-1-2 overall at Scottrade Center.
Thomas Hickey gives Islanders win in overtime
Defenseman scores with 3:07 left to defeat Flames
by Brian Compton @BComptonNHL / NHL.com Deputy Managing EditorNEW YORK -- Thomas Hickey scored with 3:07 left in overtime to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames at Barclays Center on Monday.
Hickey, a Calgary native, redirected John Tavares' backhand flip past Flames goalie Brian Elliott to help the Islanders avoid a three-game losing streak. It was Hickey's second goal of the season.
Tavares scored in the first period and Thomas Greiss made 25 saves for New York (7-10-4), which showed resiliency despite giving up a 1-0 lead in the third period.
Tom Rowe facing higher expectations for Panthers
Florida interim coach, who replaced Gerard Gallant, needs to reach next level to back up bold move
by Nicholas J. Cotsonika @cotsonika / NHL.com ColumnistCHICAGO -- If you're going to fire a coach like Gerard Gallant -- a bold, surprising, unpopular move -- you better have a good reason. You'd better make an upgrade.
Now that we've heard the Florida Panthers' rationale for removing Gallant on Sunday, it appears they did have a good reason: The front office and coach had philosophical differences. When general manager Tom Rowe takes over as interim coach against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET; CSN-CH, FS-F, NHL.TV), the front office and coach will be aligned.
But will Rowe be an upgrade?
Tom Rowe named Panthers interim coach
General manager says inconsistency, philosophical divide led to firing Gerard Gallant
by Dan Rosen @drosennhl / NHL.com Senior WriterHigh expectations and an inconsistent first quarter led to a coaching change for the Florida Panthers.
Tom Rowe, the Panthers' first-year general manager, officially was named interim coach for the remainder of the season on Monday after Gerard Gallant was fired following a 3-2 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. Assistant coach Mike Kelly also was fired.
Tom Rowe comfortable behind bench
Panthers coach was Carolina assistant for three seasons, led teams in AHL, KHL
by Alain Poupart / NHL.com CorrespondentSUNRISE, Fla. -- Tom Rowe relinquished his duties as general manager of the Florida Panthers on Sunday to become interim coach for the rest of this season, but behind the bench is familiar territory.
Rowe, who replaces Gerard Gallant, who was fired on Sunday following a 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, has plenty of coaching experience in the American Hockey League and the Kontinental Hockey League, but this will be a first for him in the NHL.
Patrik Laine early favorite in Calder Trophy race
Jets forward who leads rookies in goals, points at quarter mark selected by NHL.com panel
by Mike G. Morreale @mikemorrealeNHL / NHL.com Staff WriterWinnipeg Jets rookie right wing Patrik Laine might have been on to something when he made the bold assertion that he should be considered for the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft last June.
In a season when many young and extremely talented rookies are making their mark in the NHL, the 18-year-old Laine could turn out to be the best of the bunch.
Improved Aaron Ekblad key to Panthers turnaround
Power play, defensive-zone coverage also areas of focus for interim coach Tom Rowe
by Dan Rosen @drosennhl / NHL.com Senior WriterTom Rowe's job until Sunday was to give former coach Gerard Gallant the pieces he needed to get the Florida Panthers back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Unsatisfied with how things were going, it's now Rowe's job to coach the team he helped build.

Blue Jackets arguably biggest surprise in NHL; Penguins goalie Matt Murray quiet Calder contender
by Tom Gulitti @TomGulittiNHL / NHL.com Staff WriterAbout a quarter into the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets have been, perhaps, the biggest surprise in the NHL.
Through their first 20 games, the Blue Jackets are 11-5-4 with 26 points, which is good for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. It's also the second-best record through 20 games in Blue Jackets history, behind their 14-6-0 start in 2010-11.
Nazem Kadri's growth has been 'phenomenal'
Shutdown center prominent part of Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock's game plan
by Nicholas J. Cotsonika @cotsonika / NHL.com ColumnistThe last time the Toronto Maple Leafs played the Edmonton Oilers, their shutdown center hounded Connor McDavid. He kept getting in the way so McDavid couldn't rev up to his racetrack speed. He kept bumping McDavid, hitting McDavid, bothering McDavid, drawing an exasperated smile after one nudge along the boards. He held McDavid without a point.
Oh, and he scored twice himself, including the overtime goal in a 3-2 victory at Air Canada Centre on Nov. 12.
And so a storyline entering Toronto's game against Edmonton at Rogers Place on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SNW, TSN4, NHL.TV) is how coach Mike Babcock might not be able to match his shutdown center against McDavid, the NHL's leading scorer, because he's on the road and doesn't have the last change.
But think about that for a minute: The shutdown center McDavid might avoid is Nazem Kadri.

Fantasy waiver wire: PIMs specialists to consider
Forwards Andrew Shaw, Matt Martin can help cover category
by Ben Zweiman @BZweimanNHL / NHL.com Staff WriterSome fantasy owners are fine having penalty minutes in their league, and others are adamantly against it. If PIMs are something you must endure throughout a season, it's important not to ignore the category when considering who to pick up off the waiver wire. If you can find a player to give you a boost in PIMs as well as chipping in a few points here and there, all the better for you against the opposition.

by Tom Gulitti @tomgulittinhl / NHL.com Staff WriterARLINGTON, Va. -- Some of the Washington Capitals already had begun filing off the ice, each trying to catch his breath following a grueling conditioning skate to end practice Monday. But Alex Ovechkin wasn't done working.
The Capitals captain positioned himself in front of the net while some of his teammates fired shots from the point that he attempted to deflect in. Eventually it was just Ovechkin, defenseman Taylor Chorney and assistant coach Todd Reirden.

Journeyman Hurricanes goalie, 35, looking to prove he can still play in League
by Kurt Dusterberg / NHL.com CorrespondentFor someone making his first NHL start in almost four years, Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Michael Leighton was the picture of calm during pregame warmup Sunday.
When Leighton's teammates peppered him with the usual shots prior to facing the Florida Panthers, he wasted little energy, keeping his movements to a minimum. When his work was finished he skated to the Hurricanes bench and did something that caught the attention of coach Bill Peters.

Legendary Rhode Island prep coach to be inducted into U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Wednesday
by Amalie Benjamin @AmalieBenjamin / NHL.com Staff WriterWOONSOCKET, R.I. -- It takes a keen eye to see everything, to take in the pucks tucked in the corners, the citations hung from the sides of the display case, the framed photos stacked two and three deep. The trophies are crowded on each other, the letters sit overlapped with plaques and pictures, the glass awards and bowls and cups and keys and medals fill every inch of a space that cannot contain the legacy it tries to hold.
There is the puck from Brian Lawton's first NHL goal. There is a letter from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. There is the key to the city of Woonsocket. There is a jersey with the No. 696 on it, commemorating a national record for wins that has long since been smashed. Next to it is a jersey with No. 800 on it, just as obsolete.
