Far North is an independently produced film by director Asif Kapadia, based on a short story by Sara Maitland. It was screened at various film festivals in 2007 and 2008 before a US DVD release on September 23, 2008.
The film opens up with a voiceover of a woman named Saiva telling the listener that a shaman said she was cursed at birth and would bring harm to anyone she cared for. While she and a young woman named Anja are camping in a subarctic region of Siberia, in desperation, she takes one of her sled dogs and slits after calming it, slits it throat, foreshadowing the shaman's prophecy about her birth. She and Anja then set out to relocate their camp. On the way, they almost get caught by Soviet/Russian soldiers. Fearing the worst, Saiva ventures out with Anja into the far north to the arctic tundra, passing abandoned telephone wire trees and to the area where she believes no one would ever find them. After a long paddle north, they pitch camp on a beach, where they set up their yurt.
A one minute clip from UK breakfast TV mention of the film from a journalist at the film festival - brief excerpt from the film and a brief excerpt from and interview with Sean.

We join 40145 in this two-part video on SRPS' The Far North Explorer railtour from Linlithgow to Thurso and Wick and return, via the Highland Main Line overnight. The video starts with a view of Zontar on board, before we view the arrival at Perth. We jump to Inverness, or rather the avoiding line, next to the depot where we see 08788. This is followed by the departure onwards, with 40145 waking up the population of the Highlands' capital! We then see the departures from Muir of Ord and Dingwall, before we then jump to Lairg and the departure there, with plenty of wheelslip. Onwards to Georgemas Junction where we see 158719 waiting to head south. We then see 57601 at Thurso, where we also see 158722 on an Inverness bound service. The penultimate shot is of 40145 arriving with the EC...
We join 40145 again in part 2 of this video on SRPS' The Far North Explorer railtour from Linlithgow to Thurso and Wick and return, via the Highland Main Line overnight. We start at Wick, with a quick idling clip before the departure. Rogart and the tackling of the bank up to Lairg follows, after which is Kingussie with 57601 on the rear and a more general view of the station during a pathing stop. That's followed by the departure from Kingussie. We then jump to a point not far from Winchburgh Junction, where we see the departure from a signal check as well as the junction itself. The video ends after a couple of short clips at Linlithgow.

The crew make the trek to Rangiputa in the far north for a solid days fishing from the boat and off the rocks during a severe weather warning.
Once again I ask you to sit back and enjoy the view from the train window for the first part of our trip along Scotland’s Far North Line. We are fortunate to see most of this journey in bright winter sunshine as we make our way from Inverness to Lairg, where poor weather and fading light force an early end to filming. We cover the rest of the Far North Line on our return journey - (Bognor Regis to Wick & Thurso Pt 4)
In Russia`s frozen far north, where nomadic families often travel deep into the tundra, medical help isn't always easy to find. That's why the air ambulance service was set up, to be there for injuries, illnesses and pregnancies. Flying a helicopter in these extreme polar weather conditions, that can change by the minute, is quite intense. RT meets the courageous flying medics of the Yamal peninsula to witness an everyday story of heroism. Bedford to Milton Keynes via Inverness & Wick! I quick look into my journey to top of Britain. I would have gone from Milton Keynes, but due to Easter engineering work, there weren't any trains. So I had to go from Bedford to London to catch the sleeper, which was diverted via the ECML to Inverness! All of my sleeper footage I quite brief in this video, as the main topic in this clip is my footage from the Far North line. So be sure to check out the videos from On-board both Sleepers to Inverness via ECML and from Inverness to London via the WCML! An awesome trip, once again Caledonian Sleeper is much recommended its brilliant! I was tweeting continuously during this journey!
