Battling all odds, paralympian Devendra Jhajharia scripted history for India as he gave the country its maiden gold medal in the World Paralympic Championships in the javelin throw. The proud Devendra is back to the country and spoke exclusively to NNIS Sports where he said his medal belongs to the nation.
The first Indian paralympian to win gold medal at the recently-concluded Athletics World Championships, Devendra Jhajharia feels that the future of para-athletes is bleak in India as the Government does not have any specific policy for the para-sports in the country. In an exclusive chat with NNIS Sports Devendra feels change of mindset is required towards the para athletes.
The javelin-thrower, who became the first differently-abled Indian to win gold at the IPC Athletics World Championships, returned home on Tuesday.

Devendra Jhajharia became India's second gold medal winner at the Rio Paralympics on Tuesday. He broke his own world record . Jhajharia's historic effort came in his third attempt. But he was comfortably leading the field through the competition, and never looked in doubt of losing out on his second gold medal in his second appearance at the Paralympics. He first participated at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games at the age of 24. That appearance was no different, as he created a new world record with a throw of 62.15m to become India's first gold medalist. But due to the F46 classification not being included in the subsequent 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Paralympics, Jhajharia didn't get the opportunity to break his own record earlier.
