News program

A news program, news programme, news show, or newscast is a regularly scheduled radio or television program that reports current events. News is typically reported in a series of individual stories that are presented by one or more anchors. A news program can include live or recorded interviews by field reporters, expert opinions, opinion poll results, and occasional editorial content.

A special category of news programs are entirely editorial in format. These host polemic debates between pundits of various ideological philosophies.

In the early-21st-century news programs – especially those of commercial networks – tended to become less oriented on hard news, and often regularly included "feel-good stories" or humorous reports as the last items on their newscasts, as opposed to news programs transmitted thirty years earlier, such as the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. From their beginnings until around 1995, evening television news broadcasts continued featuring serious news stories right up to the end of the program, as opposed to later broadcasts with such anchors as Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer.

TV3 News @ 7

TV3 News @ 7 was the second early evening news programme on the Irish television network TV3. It was produced by the TV3 News division.

The TV3 News @ 7, presented by main newscasters Alan Cantwell and Colette Fitzpatrick, was a thirty-minute news programme covering Irish national and international news stories, broadcast at 7:00pm from Monday to Friday.

History

When TV3 launched on 20 September 1998 its early evening news programme was called TV3 News @ 6. It provided a comprehensive view of the day's main international and national news stories, was presented by Alan Cantwell and Gráinne Seoige and was in direct competition with RTÉ News: Six One. This period of direct rivalry with RTÉ only lasted for a year as TV3 decided to break up the hour-long programme. As a result of this two new programmes - First Edition at 5:30pm and TV3 News @ 7 - were launched. Both programmes were still fronted by Cantwell and Seoige, while First Edition became Ireland's first early evening news programme.

TV3 News @ 6 was the flagship evening news programme on the Irish television network TV3. It was produced by the TV3 News division.

The TV3 News @ 6, presented by main newscasters Alan Cantwell and Gráinne Seoige, was a sixty-minute news programme covering Irish national and international news stories, broadcast at 6:00pm from Monday to Friday.

At weekends the main evening bulletin also aired at 6:00pm but was reduced to thirty minutes.

History

TV3 News @ 6 was the first programme broadcast by TV3 on opening night on 20 September 1998. The news programme provided a comprehensive view of the day's main international and national news stories and was in direct competition with RTÉ News: Six One. This period of direct rivalry with RTÉ only lasted for a year as poor ratings, due to the strength of the competition from RTÉ, resulted in TV3 deciding to break up the hour-long programme. Because of this two new programmes - First Edition at 5:30pm and TV3 News @ 7 - were launched. Both programmes were still fronted by Cantwell and Seoige, while First Edition became Ireland's first early evening news programme.

Ancient Domains of Mystery

Ancient Domains of Mystery, or ADOM, is a roguelike video game by Thomas Biskup first released in 1994. The player's aim is to stop the forces of Chaos that invade the world of Ancardia.

Like most roguelikes, ADOM uses ASCII graphics to represent the game world. Recent versions optionally can be played using tile based graphics, soundtracks and sound effects.It features a wilderness map that connects different types of dungeons. Most dungeons are randomly generated on first entering. Once visited, they — with the exception of the Infinite Dungeon — do not change when re-entered during play.

Since 2012, after a 9-year hiatus, development has been resumed by Thomas Biskup on ADOM as well as its successor ADOM II (a.k.a. JADE). Due to a crowdfunding campaign the latest versions are only available to those who participated, but version 1.2.0p59 has been made available for public download.

Story

ADOM takes place in the fictional world of Ancardia, in the mountainous Drakalor Chain. For 6,000 years, it has known relative peace, but recently reports have spread of the appearance of dangerous dungeons and frightening monsters. Khelavaster, a wise sage, discovers an ancient prophecy regarding the Coming of Chaos and propagates it to the peoples of the world. It speaks of a champion who will defend the world from the forces of Chaos in the Drakalor Chain. Hearing of this prophecy, many would-be heroes set out. The player assumes control of one such adventurer.
