David Howell Evans (born 8 August 1961), better known by his stage name The Edge (or just Edge), is a British-born Irish musician and songwriter best known as the lead guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist of the rock band U2. A member of the group since its inception, he has recorded 13 studio albums with the band as well as one solo record. As a guitarist, the Edge has crafted a minimalistic and textural style of playing. His use of a rhythmic delay effect yields a distinctive ambient, chiming sound that has become a signature of U2's music.
The Edge was born in England to a Welsh family, and was raised in Ireland after the Evans family relocated there while he was still an infant. In 1976 at Mount Temple Comprehensive School he formed U2 with his fellow students and his older brother Dik. Inspired by the ethos of punk rock and its basic arrangements, the group began to write its own material. They eventually became one of the most popular acts in popular music, with successful albums such as 1987's The Joshua Tree and 1991's Achtung Baby. Over the years, the Edge has experimented with various guitar effects and introduced influences from several genres of music into his own style, including American roots music, industrial music, and alternative rock. With U2, the Edge has also played keyboards, co-produced their 1993 record Zooropa, and occasionally contributed lyrics. The Edge met his second and current wife, Morleigh Steinberg, through her collaborations with the band.
Tangerine Dream are a German electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese being the only continuous member until his death in January 2015. Noted electronic music artist, drummer, and composer Klaus Schulze was briefly a member in an early lineup. The best known and most constant line-up of the group, which worked during their most influential mid-1970s period, was a trio with Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In the late 1970s, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann, and this lineup was stable and extremely productive as well.
Tangerine Dream's recorded output has been prolific, having released over one hundred albums. Their work with the Ohr electronic music label, a period called the "Pink Years" because of a pink ear included in Ohr's logo, produced albums that had a pivotal role in the development of the musical genre known as krautrock. Their "Virgin Years," so-called because of their association with Virgin Records, produced albums that helped define what became known as the Berlin School of electronic music. These and later albums were influential in both the development of electronic dance music and also new-age music, although the band themselves disliked that term. From the late 1990s into the 2000s, Tangerine Dream continued to explore other styles of electronica.

Joel Goodson is a normal high school student who lives with his wealthy parents in the North Shore area of suburban Chicago. His father wants him to attend Princeton University, his alma mater, so Joel participates in Future Enterprisers, an extracurricular activity in which students work in teams to create small businesses.
When his parents go away on a trip, Joel's friend, Miles, convinces him to take advantage of his newfound freedom to have some fun. On the first night, he raids the liquor cabinet, plays the stereo loudly, and dances around the living room in his underwear and pink dress shirt to "Old Time Rock and Roll". The following day, Miles calls a call girl named Jackie on Joel's behalf. Jackie turns out to be a tall, masculine transvestite. Joel pays Jackie to go away, but before she leaves, she gives Joel the number for Lana, another prostitute, promising that she's what "every white boy off the lake wants".
A train is a form of rail transport consisting of a series of vehicles that usually runs along a rail track to transport cargo or passengers. Motive power is provided by a separate locomotive or individual motors in self-propelled multiple units. Although historically steam propulsion dominated, the most common modern forms are diesel and electric locomotives, the latter supplied by overhead wires or additional rails. Other energy sources include horses, engine or water-driven rope or wire winch, gravity, pneumatics, batteries, and gas turbines. Train tracks usually consist of two running rails, sometimes supplemented by additional rails such as electric conducting rails and rack rails, with a limited number of monorails and maglev guideways in the mix. The word 'train' comes from the Old French trahiner, from the Latin trahere 'pull, draw'.
There are various types of trains that are designed for particular purposes. A train may consist of a combination of one or more locomotives and attached railroad cars, or a self-propelled multiple unit (or occasionally a single or articulated powered coach, called a railcar). The first trains were rope-hauled, gravity powered or pulled by horses. From the early 19th century almost all were powered by steam locomotives. From the 1910s onwards the steam locomotives began to be replaced by less labor-intensive and cleaner (but more complex and expensive) diesel locomotives and electric locomotives, while at about the same time self-propelled multiple unit vehicles of either power system became much more common in passenger service.

I love this track, thought I would give it a try using the sequentix P3 sequencer. It has 8 tracks, with each of the synths connected to it, it allows old skool sequencing plus ability to jam a little with it. There's something really tight about hardware sequencers that DAW's simply can't do. The p3 manual will take some good bed-time reading to get a grip on it fully;) Thanks to C for giving me the opportunity of using it

Our longest film so far. Almost four minutes packed with stuff we love to sink our teeth into: graphic design, user interface design, 2D animation, 3D animation and live-action. The film highlights an architectural masterpiece located at the Amsterdam Zuidas called The Edge. After the success of the trailer we made last year, independent property developer OVG asked us to develop a sequel. In this piece we focus on the building’s innovative features, which makes it the most sustainable office building in the world. Pretty cool, hey? The Edge is a brand-new building located at Amsterdam’s Zuid-as area designed by PLP Architecture and developed by OVG. In order to enthuse investors we were asked to create a film in which this architectural masterpiece is presented. We chose to focus on the five most important pillars. First of all The Edge has the highest sustainability label of all buildings in continental Europe. Furthermore we wanted to reflect its location, as the Zuid-as area is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s most significant business districts. Flexibility, cutting-edge design and, perhaps the most important, users are the final pillars that complete the story. From Bikeminimalism: "Even though the town is snow covered, and the days up in the armpit of the Polar Circle are still lived in below freezing temperatures, the appearance of tarmac from underneath the cold, soft white matter presents a faint promise of something nice to come... While we all live our lives, eagerly awaiting for the warm summer breeze whistling through the spokes, the caress of the sun on bare skin, the freedom of movement – oblivious of the world around us, we can only remember the past." --------------------------------------------- Being an avid Winter Cyclist and tired of hearing people complain about the weather and a few centimetres of snow I went out with a friend the other day to film some cycling on a basic finnish winter day in Helsinki. There's beauty in that daily battle, that lonely run, that race of me against me. No matter the conditions, sleet or snow, let the brays of worry be swallowed alive by the gentle hum of spinning steel. WINTERS EDGE poem by Samu Amunét How much am I these cities whizzing through me? SPINNING STEEL. How much am I these cities whizzing through me? As they cling their little strings of light to connect the dots in my itching soul, like fireflies dancing their erratic dance to the rhythm of soft clattering steel as I swoop in with them. How they have weaved their delicate webs into me so as to enclose me in the hold of the cold stone that paves the marrow of my bones so that when life rides right through them – they rattle with a soft hum and echo in me gently. To wander these streets in me, and to wonder just how much they have laced themselves into this little being to build little cities of light on the hills of my smile. I’ll be myself a bit just to ride them a while. I’ll ride them a little faster and let them blur into my sweet timelessness. This little race of th...

Now it seems, that it was the last day of Indian summer. With Miro, my co-rider and Maťo, who is gradually proving to be a skillful cameraman, we decided to film one of our home trails. I believe I can say with confidence that we used our opportunity to the full, judging from Miro's smile during watching the footages at my place. However, things can always be better. Sending our regards to all nice folks we met during the shooting, especially to Peter from TR. We would like to dedicate this video to the Cowboy who couldn't be there with us but it was him who showed us this fantastic trail where we always come back and ride over and over again. Is ignorance bliss? That's the question Emika asks on the second single from her forthcoming and eagerly awaited debut album. The video for 'Double Edge' is a live performance filmed via webcam between London and Berlin, where Emika is based. The sounds and vocals on the track were recorded at Die Teufelsberg in Berlin ('Devil's Mountain'), an artificial hill that was used as US listening station after the Second World War. It was built on top of the rubble of Berlin during the following twenty years as the city was rebuilt but is now abandoned. 'Double Edge' is released on 12" vinyl and download on Ninja Tune on 10th May 2010.

Despite no common past or culture, by protecting Elsa, Ignat discovers how he can save himself. «Dishu: Ground Calligraphy in China» is a survey about contemporary calligraphic practices in Chinese public spaces, a photographic and video documentary project developed during summer 2011 in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. The videos presented on this platform are moments, uncut real time sequences giving the opportunity to fully observe an inscription in the making: capturing at the scale of public space the different handwritten gestures and the duration of strokes. In Beijing the videos were mainly shot in the following parks: Taoranting, Tiantan (Temple of Heaven) and Ditan (Temple of Earth). In Shanghai videos were shot in Zhabei and Luxun parks, in Shenyang in the main central plazza, Zhongshan square. In China cosmology, the square or «di» represents the earth and the circle rep...

"(A very long silence.) But you have friends. (A long silence.) You have a lot of friends. What do you offer your friends to make them so supportive? (A long silence.) What do you offer your friends to make them so supportive? (A long silence.) What do you offer? (Silence.)" It was the nocturnal quality of Pascal Savy’s music that first appealed to me, the clarity that sets in just before the first ray of light in the crackling silence still unruffled by birdsong. The subtle sense of disquiet seeping from under a blanket of tremulous stillness that drew me in, as if hovering on the edge of consciousness ready to let go, seduced by the false prospect of appeasement when internal reconciliation is all but out of reach. This is not music to sooth the mind, it makes one alert. Listeni...

The installation is built up by three string instruments, that are suspended at the instruments heads. The instruments are arranged in a cycle with their strings pointing to each other. Between the instruments is a horizontal mounted bicycle wheel with embedded magnets on its outer edge. The wheel is rotated by a electric stepper motor. The steel strings of the instruments vibrate, when the magnets are passing the strings without getting in tough with them. This results in a dark, floating and oscillating sound cluster. Due to the long duration of the exhibition the string tension and thus the sound of the composed sound cluster is changing. the very outpointing aspect of the installation is therefore the combination of exactly planed and organized technology and time as a unplannable issu...

Taking not too serious leaps while tip toeing on the edge about everything and nothing without a point and purpose. I mean it would be nice if we really could grow forever, but what if infinite growth on a finite planet is a fairy tale? Maybe it's hard to see if you already grow at such an exhilarating speed. Nonsense facts mixed with history and a political opinion form an abstract narrative on three independent but interwoven levels. Or simply: the most schizophrenic thing I could come up with. in depth interview about the short: http://www.dragonframe.com/blog/2014/03/motiphe-kangaroos-cant-jump-backwards/#more-9490 Director: Raphael Vangelis Script: Katharina Pichler, Raphael Vangelis Voice Actor: Beau Stephenson (http://www.beaustephenson.com/) 2D Animation: Katja Flachberger Sound ...

“Love what you do. Because it’s not easy. It’s not easy to make art.” Watch as the iconic video and performance artist Joan Jonas advises her younger colleagues to enjoy what they’re doing as you never know how people will respond to your work. Moreover, it’s important to have a circle of friends that you can spar with: “Art is about communication. Art is a dialogue with art, a dialogue with other artists, a dialogue with the past, with the future, and it’s an important dialogue to have.” Joan Jonas (b. 1936) is an American artist, who works with combinations of video, performance, installation, sculpture and drawing, often collaborating with musicians and dancers. Her cutting-edge ‘Mirror Pieces’ (late 1960’s) featured performers carrying mirrors on stage, slowly rotating them and thu...
Produced by Film Art Doco. Distributor: Film Art Media. The story of Jorn Utzon and the design and construction of the Sydney Opera House. Danish architect, Jørn Utzon, was awarded the first prize in a competition to design an Opera House for Sydney in 1957, he flew to Australia to begin work on the construction of the greatest building Australia has ever seen and, indeed, one of the finest achievements of modern architecture. Utzon was forced from the project in 1966 and never returned to Australia. What defeated him in the end was politics. His triumph came with the 2007 World Heritage Listing of the building “as a work of human creative genius” and one of the 20th century’s greatest buildings. This film charts the dramatic course of the creation of a masterpiece and includes a r...
