The special edition of Gumnut Babies

The work of Australian author and illustrator May Gibbs continues to be loved a century after it was first created. Her lovable cute-as-a-button baby characters and their adventures, set in the Australian bushland, are dear to many.

Now it's time to celebrate the centenary of Gibbs' very first book release, Gumnut Babies.

An absolutely perfect baby shower, newborn or first birthday gift, the centenary edition has a specially marked front cover. Inside, you'll find stories such as Gum-Blossom Babies, Flannel Flowers and Other Bush Babies, Boronia Babies, Wattle Babies, plus Nuttybub and Nittersing and Chucklebud and Wunkydoo.

The gorgeous hardcover edition isn't the only celebrating going on around May Gibbs' beautiful work. Elly-May Barnes has also done a great reading of one of the stories for Story Box as part of her ambassador role for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, which Gibbs gave her copyright to, along with one other charity. You can watch it here

You can buy the 100-year anniversary edition of Gumnut Babies for $39.95.

But that's not all - there's also a sweet coin from the Perth Mint ($129) ...

... and a stamp and coin set ($19.95) available from Australia Post.

And if you've got a baby born this year, you can honour this timing with a commemorative birth certificate from the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages. There are two May Gibbs-themed certificates to choose from in the Australian classics range. When you order the $77 Commemorative Birth Certificate package you receive a commemorative and a standard birth certificate (valued at $53) for official purposes.

Keep up to date with the centenary of all things May Gibbs on the new weebsite.

And keep in mind that Snugglepot and Cuddlepie turns 100 in 2018, so there will be more celebrations to come!
