On Day 3 of our trip to Jordan we stayed in Amman, and did lots of the major attractions in Amman, including the historical sites. We also explored downtown Amman, went to the local market, and at some more incredibly good food. Below is everything we did during this packed day of sightseeing in Amman.
1:10 - Shams El Balad Cafe - For breakfast we went to Shams El Balad Cafe, a very nice restaurant and cafe that specializes in local Jordanian food with a fresh and healthy, and also organic twist to it. The place itself is very nice, and sits on a hill overlooking the main downtown area of Amman. We ordered a variety of different food, including some manakish, which is a round of dough baked with toppings including cheese and herbs on top. I also really enjoyed the makdous, preserved eggplant stuffed with nuts, and a certain type of labneh with local herbs. Total price - 28 JD ($39.40) for 4 people
5:35 Amman Citadel - 3 JD ($4.22) - One of the most famous things to do in Amman is visit to Amman Citadel, which is the high point on the hill and formerly was one of the main areas of the city - the lookout and high place of Amman. Located at the Amman Citadel you’ll find layer upon layer of history, and can see all the different civilizations that have once called Amman home. I thought it was amazing, and I especially enjoyed the views of Amman from up there and the temple of Hercules.
7:38 Roman Amphitheater - 2 JD ($2.81) - Right down the hill from the Amman Citadel is the Roman Amphitheater, a stone theater carved into the side of the mountain. When we entered, there was a group of boys singing, and I decided to climb to the top for a view and I was amazing how the sound carried all the way to the top of the bleachers. An amazing historical site of visit.
8:54 Green Almonds and Downtown Amman - One of the best things to do in Amman in my opinion is to walk around downtown where all the action happens. There’s a big central market where you can buy just about anything you’re looking for, including a fresh wet market. When I visited Amman it happened to be almond season, and it was my first time to try green almonds. They were absolutely delicious, and tasted a bit like green apples.
13:01 Habibah Sweets - Probably one of the most famous things to eat in Amman is the kanefeh from a desserts spot in downtown called Habibah Sweets. There’s always a crowd of people standing outside waiting and eating kanafeh, which is a cheese based dessert. It’s pretty good, definitely a place you’ll need to visit in Amman if you enjoy food - especially for sweets. Price for 1 piece of kanafeh - 0.65 JD ($0.91)
14:22 Sufra Restaurant - For lunch we went to Sufra Restaurant, a very nice Jordanian food restaurant, located on Rainbow street. The food was excellent, but the main dish that really stood out to me was the Kofta bi tahini, a bed of minced meat, topped with potatoes and smothered in tahini sauce. Price - about 20 JD ($28.11) per person
19:50 Shawarma Reem and Amman Shawarma Street - Finally for dinner, we headed to what’s unofficially known as the shawarma street in Amman, where there’s about 8 different shawarma restaurants. One of the most famous is Shawarma Reem, for their beef and lamb shawarma - it was a perfect way to end the day.

Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city of contrasts -- a unique blend of old and new, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. In the commercial heart of the city, ultra-modern buildings, hotels, smart restaurants, art galleries and boutiques rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and tiny artisans' workshops. Everywhere there is evidence of the city's much older past. Due to the city's modern-day prosperity and temperate climate, almost half of Jordan's population is concentrated in the Amman area. The residential suburbs consist of mainly tree-lined streets and avenues flanked by elegant, almost uniformly white houses in accordance with a municipal law, which states that all buildings must be faced with local stone.

Amman
Amman (English pronunciation: /ɑːˈmɑːn/; Arabic: عمّان) is the capital and most populous city of Jordan, and the country's economic, political and cultural centre. Situated in north-central Jordan, Amman is the administrative centre of the Amman Governorate. It has a population of 4,007,526 and a land area of 1,680 square kilometres (648.7 sq mi). Today, Amman is considered to be among the most liberal and westernized Arab cities. It is a major tourist destination in the region, particularly among Arab and European tourists.
The earliest evidence of settlement in the area is a Neolithic site known as 'Ain Ghazal. Its successor was known as "Rabbath Ammon", which was the capital of the Ammonites, then as "Philadelphia", and finally as Amman. It was initially built on seven hills but now spans over 19 hills combining 27 districts, which are administered by the Greater Amman Municipality headed by its mayor Aqel Biltaji. Areas of Amman have either gained their names from the hills (Jabal) or valleys (Wadi) they lie on, such as Jabal Lweibdeh and Wadi Abdoun. East Amman is predominantly filled with historic sites that frequently host cultural activities, while West Amman is more modern and serves as the economic center of the city.

Jordan
Jordan (/ˈdʒɔːrdən/; Arabic: الأردن Al-Urdun), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Arabic: المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية Al-Mamlakah Al-Urduniyah Al-Hashimiyah), is an Arab kingdom in Western Asia, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the east and south, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north, and Israel and Palestine to the west. Since the dawn of civilization, the country's location at the crossroads of the Middle East has served as a strategic nexus connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.
Archaeologists found evidence on inhabitance dating as far back as the Paleolithic period. Three kingdoms emerged on the territory of modern Jordan at the very end of the Bronze Age: Ammon, Moab and Edom. The lands were later part of several kingdoms and empires, most notably the Nabatean Kingdom, the Roman Empire and finally the Ottoman Empire from the 16th until the early 20th century. After the Partitioning of the Ottoman Empire after World war I by Britain and France, the Emirate of Transjordan was officially recognized by the Council of the League of Nations in 1922. In 1946, Jordan became an independent sovereign state officially known as The Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. The capture of the West Bank by Jordan during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War has showed that the Arab Legion forces known today as the Jordanian Armed Forces were the most effective among the Arab troops involved in the war. The same year, Abdullah I took the title King of Jordan. The name of the state was changed to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 1 December 1948.

On Day 3 of our trip to Jordan we stayed in Amman, and did lots of the major attractions in Amman, including the historical sites. We also explored downtown Amman, went to the local market, and at some more incredibly good food. Below is everything we did during this packed day of sightseeing in Amman.
1:10 - Shams El Balad Cafe - For breakfast we went to Shams El Balad Cafe, a very nice restaurant and cafe that specializes in local Jordanian food with a fresh and healthy, and also organic twist to it. The place itself is very nice, and sits on a hill overlooking the main downtown area of Amman. We ordered a variety of different food, including some manakish, which is a round of dough baked with toppings including cheese and herbs on top. I also really enjoyed the makdous, preserved eggplant stuffed with nuts, and a certain type of labneh with local herbs. Total price - 28 JD ($39.40) for 4 people
5:35 Amman Citadel - 3 JD ($4.22) - One of the most famous things to do in Amman is visit to Amman Citadel, which is the high point on the hill and formerly was one of the main areas of the city - the lookout and high place of Amman. Located at the Amman Citadel you’ll find layer upon layer of history, and can see all the different civilizations that have once called Amman home. I thought it was amazing, and I especially enjoyed the views of Amman from up there and the temple of Hercules.
7:38 Roman Amphitheater - 2 JD ($2.81) - Right down the hill from the Amman Citadel is the Roman Amphitheater, a stone theater carved into the side of the mountain. When we entered, there was a group of boys singing, and I decided to climb to the top for a view and I was amazing how the sound carried all the way to the top of the bleachers. An amazing historical site of visit.
8:54 Green Almonds and Downtown Amman - One of the best things to do in Amman in my opinion is to walk around downtown where all the action happens. There’s a big central market where you can buy just about anything you’re looking for, including a fresh wet market. When I visited Amman it happened to be almond season, and it was my first time to try green almonds. They were absolutely delicious, and tasted a bit like green apples.
13:01 Habibah Sweets - Probably one of the most famous things to eat in Amman is the kanefeh from a desserts spot in downtown called Habibah Sweets. There’s always a crowd of people standing outside waiting and eating kanafeh, which is a cheese based dessert. It’s pretty good, definitely a place you’ll need to visit in Amman if you enjoy food - especially for sweets. Price for 1 piece of kanafeh - 0.65 JD ($0.91)
14:22 Sufra Restaurant - For lunch we went to Sufra Restaurant, a very nice Jordanian food restaurant, located on Rainbow street. The food was excellent, but the main dish that really stood out to me was the Kofta bi tahini, a bed of minced meat, topped with potatoes and smothered in tahini sauce. Price - about 20 JD ($28.11) per person
19:50 Shawarma Reem and Amman Shawarma Street - Finally for dinner, we headed to what’s unofficially known as the shawarma street in Amman, where there’s about 8 different shawarma restaurants. One of the most famous is Shawarma Reem, for their beef and lamb shawarma - it was a perfect way to end the day.

A modern infrastructure connects the residential districts with the old town at the foot of the hills.The King Abdullah Mosque is the largest and, due to its striking blue cupola, the most beautiful mosque in Amman. Although only completed in 1988, it is an important symbol of Islam.In 1900, the Ottoman Sultan ordered the construction of the Hedjaz Railroad that was designed to unite the Ottoman Empire, which had begun to disintegrate, as well as to transport Moslem pilgrims to Medina in the Hedjaz Mountains. The monarchs who ruled over this land have been many. Both earthquakes and fire have devastated its buildings, but Amman has managed to survive and now continues to be a prosperous and vibrant metropolis.

A Travel Guide to Jordan
Jordan is an extraordinary country. Although small in size and young in terms of nation state, it is blessed with some of the regions most revered historical treasures, some of its most spectacular scenery and some of its kindest and most hospitable people. It has a delicious cuisine, a good tourist infrastructure – with some great accommodation and knowledgeable guides – and under the much respected royal family, a stable government. Throughout its short history, Jordan has bucked the trends of its neighbours; by welcoming the foreign traveller with open arms, and gallons of sweet mint tea, in many ways it continues to do so.
Amman is a lively, liberal city, modern in character, yet with one foot rooted firmly in the past. With a history dating back to Neolithic times, its journey travels through the Greeks and Romans – when it was known as Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love’ – before being abandoned for almost a thousand years only to rise again in 1921 as the country’s modern capital. Today it carries an air of dynamic self-assurance, and is an easy place to hang out for a day or two. Things not to be missed are the downtown area, the fruit and vegetable market, the Roman theatre, and the citadel with the capital’s most famous monument, the Temple of Hercules.
From Amman the first thing you might like to do is take a day trip to visit the country’s most famous Roman town, Jaresh. Although Palaeolithic and Neolithic settlements can be found nearby, the town came to prominence during in the 1st century AD. Sites to check out here are the Temple of Zeus, the South Theatre and its impressive, and renovated, Hippodrome – which has seen a revival of the Roman sport of chariot racing.
Travelling south you’ll pass Mount Nebo, the site from which Moses showed his people the Promised Land and take a look around Madaba, where, among other things, on the floor of St George’s church you can see the first map of the Holy Land in the form of a wonderful mural.
But Jordan isn’t just about sites of antiquity, it also has some stunning natural wonders to experience. Just to the east of Madaba you can go for a float in the Dead Sea – and, if you so desire, cover yourself in the rejuvenating mud, or treat yourself to a spa or swim at one of the regions smart 5 star hotels – before enjoying remote, offbeat locations like the tiny village of Dana, which has recently been reinvented as an eco-village for travellers looking to explore the nearby reserve.
While most people enter Petra from the town of Wadi Musa, through the famous Siq, or narrow gorge, emerging at the Treasury, there is another route in. Taking the rarely used back entrance not only offers a spectacular walk, through the regions beautifully rugged terrain, it also means you avoid the crowds and start your tour of the amazing Pink City at the impressive Monastery, and thus save the Treasury till last.
And what a site Petra is – truly one of the wonders of the world. Covering some 250 square kilometres, the former capital of the Nabateans simply astounds. The beautiful pink rock, carved into magnificent facades showcasing the noble family’s temples and tombs, divided by mighty canyons and gorges, really does leave you speechless. At one time the city was home to some 30,000 inhabitants and the scale of the place is mind-blowing.
And finally you come to the most impressive of all the Petra sites, the famous Treasury, which simply has to be one of the most magnificent monuments ever created.
This is simply one of the most majestic desert landscapes you are ever likely to witness, a place where orange sands drift against towering red cliffs and immense vistas ride out under vast desert skies. This is a great place to stay for the night, either sleeping wild under the stars or in one of the impressive camps, the best of which is almost certainly Discover Circle, Bedu Camp.
And as dramatic as it is, Wadi Rum has been used as a location in a numerous famous movies.
And finally right in the south is the Red Sea town of Aqaba, which as well as being an important port and modern beach resort for locals, also has its place in history.
With plenty of good walks to be had, horse riding holidays to experience, even great diving in the Red Sea, Jordan also has its fair share of activities to enjoy. At the Feynan Eco Resort it has an award winning ethical hotel, at Karak and Shobak it has Crusader castles and in the Azraq Wetlands it offers some amazing birdwatching.

In 1900 the Ottoman Sultan ordered the construction of the Hedjaz Railroad. It was designed to unite the Ottoman Empire that had begun to disintegrate as well as to transport Moslem pilgrims to Medina in the Hedjaz Mountains. Around thirty kilometres northwest of Amman is As-Salt that is situated between two mountain slopes. Up until the First World War this city that had a good supply of water and enjoyed a good climate, was the main metropolis of Trans-Jordan. Saladin had this fortress built on a twelve hundred metre high hill in 1184. Qal’at Ajlun was meant to be a defence against the approaching Crusaders and also to protect pilgrims on their way to Mecca. At an altitude of eight hundred metres is a place of great significance for the Jewish and Christian faiths, Nebo Mountain, where God revealed to Moses the Promised Land for the first time after his forty year journey from Egypt. Near Wadi Musa, The Valley Of Moses, is the fascinating and legendary rose red city of Petra. Its strategic location at the junction of six important caravan routes, including the famous Incense Road, brought much prosperity to the city. The most impressive route to Petra travels through the Siq, a narrow gorge with huge sandstone walls. Jordan is a priceless gem located in the Near East with all the magical romance of the Orient!

As he entered the court house, a 49-year-old man identified by local media sources as Riad Abdullah, a Former Imam, shot Hattar Three Times. Ok if he Broke the Local Laws, there should be Appropriate Punishment, but the Extremities of Religion Cannot Be Allowed to Take Over a Nation.

00:49 Salaheddin Bakery (مخبز صلاح الدين) - Salaheddin Bakery is known as being one of the oldest and best bakeries in all of Amman, and it’s especially known throughout the city for selling kaek sandwiches, a sandwich made with small loaves of bread that are covered in a layer of sesame seeds before being freshly baked. When you go to Salaheddin Bakery, everything is self service, you grab your own bread, slice it in half, and then you can proceed to add in cheese, hard baked eggs, and then season it with za’atar, a mix of thyme and spices blend for seasoning. I added in a little extra chili sauce and a sprinkle of salt, and I was good to go. When the owners of Salaheddin Bakery saw me taking photos and videos, they were extremely kind. They invited me into the kitchen to see them making the bread and firing the bread, and they started giving me snacks to try as well. Salaheddin Bakery is also a full restaurant where they serve ful medames and falafel, and they also have a desserts shop as well. The owners of the restaurant were very friendly and generous. Ying and I ended up spending about an hour just hanging out and enjoying our last day in Amman.
11:16 Rakwet Arab Cafe - For lunch, we walked over to Rakwet Arab Cafe, a restaurant that was located just a short distance from our hotel in Amman, and I had seen it from the outside and thought it looked pretty good. Inside the cafe and restaurant, it was nicely decorated with an Arabic theme. I ordered Arabic salad, tabbouleh (one of my favorite Middle Eastern dishes), the mixed grill (because I couldn’t resist one more plate of kebabs before leaving Jordan), and finally some dish made in a claypot with chicken. The claypot chicken was brought to our table, and they opened in by cracking a seal of clay. The cover came off with a puff of steam, and it smelled delicious. The chicken was moist and juicy while very fragrant. The grilled meat was also delicious. But what I really loved at Rakwet Arab Cafe was he tabbouleh which was some of the best I had during my trip to Jordan. It had a fantastic lemon juice dressing and it was stronger with garlic than other versions that I had eaten previously - something I love. Our total price for everything came to 33 JD ($46.40).
16:09 Spices - On our way back to the hotel, I stopped at a spice shop to pick up a few souvenirs to bring back to Bangkok with me - mostly that means a few bags of za’atar, the thyme herb mixture. The total price for everything I bought came to 11.50 JD ($16.17)
16:50 Dinner at La Locanda - We had a quick dinner at our hotel before heading to the airport.

On Day 12 in Amman, Jordan, I had one of the best fresh loaves of bread I’ve ever had, then we had a delicious final Jordanian meal before heading to the airport at night. This is the end of the Jordan travel food video series.
00:49 Salaheddin Bakery (مخبز صلاح الدين) - Salaheddin Bakery is known as being one of the oldest and best bakeries in all of Amman, and it’s especially known throughout the city for selling kaek sandwiches, a sandwich made with small loaves of bread that are covered in a layer of sesame seeds before being freshly baked. When you go to Salaheddin Bakery, everything is self service, you grab your own bread, slice it in half, and then you can proceed to add in cheese, hard baked eggs, and then season it with za’atar, a mix of thyme and spices blend for seasoning. I added in a little extra chili sauce and a sprinkle of salt, and I was good to go. On Day 4 of our trip to Jordan, we started off in Amman where we had a wonderful simple and local style breakfast of manakish, which are rounds of dough which are flattened, topped with simple things like zaatar and cheese, and baked in an oven. We then took a day trip to As-Salt or also just known as Salt, a historical city about a 45 minute drive from the center of Amman. The highlight of the day for me was the giant shish kebab meat platter that we ate for lunch!
00:38 Manakish - Manakish is something you’ll eat a lot of when you visit the Levant and in Jordan it’s a very popular snack and meal. Manakish is a piece of rounded dough which is flattened out and topped in a variety of different things. We ordered a manakish topped with zaatar, a special herb thyme blend, and also a couple topped with Jordanian white cheese, which is similar to halloumi cheese. They were all excellent mainly because they were baked so fresh and just used simple but delicious ingredients. Price - 1 JD ($1.41) each
04:20 Day to to As-Salt, Historic Old Salt Museum - 1 JD ($1.41) - Out main activity of the day was taking a short day trip to Salt, an ancient and historical city that was one of the commercial and trade centers of Jordan. We started off at the Historic Salt Museum, where we had a tour and learned a little bit about the importance of the city and how it influenced and shaped Jordan. We then took a stroll through Hamam street, the center old market street in Salt.
07:27 Al-Salam Restaurant - For lunch we went to a Jordanian meat bbq restaurant in the center of Salt called Al-Salam Restaurant. The first dish I tasted was the hummus ma lahma, a plate of hummus topped with minced meat fried in lard - it took hummus to the next level - it was absolutely incredible. Then came galayet with meat, a thick tomato based dish with minced meat in it as well. It was delicious with bread. From there, this Jordanian meal just got better and better. Arayes is a dish of bread stuffed with minced lamb and seasoning, then grilled over charcoal. The fat from the lamb makes the bread nearly taste like it’s deep fried because it gets so crispy, yet it’s merely grilled - and it was insanely delicious. But the ultimate winner of our Jordanian meat feast this time was the platter of shish kebabs and lamb pieces. The minced meat was mixed with parsley and seasoning, salted quite heavily, then grilled over hot charcoal. The mix and ratio of meat to fat ensured that the meat had an incredibly pronounced smoky taste. Total price - 25 JD ($35.26) for 4
14:01 Anabtawi Sweets - For dessert we took a walk down the road to a famous Jordanian sweets shop called Anabtawi Sweets, where Fadi ordered a mix of different desserts including hareeseh, one of the famous desserts, cream fingers, and warbat. They were all very sweet, but alright in small portions - I’m not a huge desserts lover. My favorite dessert was probably the warbat, it was kind of a cross between a cheese cake and baklava. What I really enjoyed about eating this dessert is the Arabic coffee that went with it. After having this cup of Arabic coffee, I was immediately hooked.
17:26 Thyme & More - Although it was unplanned at first, we decided to stop by a place called Thyme & More to taste some different and unique varieties of za’atar, a thyme and herb blend that’s very common in Jordan, and something I really loved eating. We tasted some incredible za’atar, and then the owner kindly invited us to have dinner at his restaurant where he served us some pizza and a giant calzone.

JORDAN INTRODUCTION: In this documentary, you will get to watch the historical places in Jordan. whole country is filled with human history. I will try to show the places in a chronological order starting with the city of Amman that was built during the stone-age in 7,000 BC. It is one of the contiguously inhabited cities in the world. You will see the ruins of Jerash - the most famous Roman architecture in the world outside Italy. I will show you the cave where, after the destruction of Sodom, Prophet Lot sought refuge. Then we will go to Petra. This wonderful city was destroyed at the time of Prophet Saleh. Then Mount Nebu, where Prophet Moses is believed to have first seen the Promised Land that he would never enter. He is believed to be buried there as well. Jesus Christ was baptized here, at the river Jordan. Several monotheist religions' prophets have lived and died here. I will also show you the tombs of Prophet Job, Prophet Aaron, Prophet Jethro, and Prophet Joshua. You will get to see the cave of seven sleepers as well. I will take you to Mu'tah where, during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, the Muslims fought a famous battle against a combined Byzantine/Ghassanid army. I will show you the tombs of several companions of prophets including those of Bilal Habashi, Jafar Ibn Abi'Talib, and Zaid Ibn Harithah. Then, we will get to see several Crusader/Salahuddin and Umayyad castles.
