Tata Power is an Indian electric utility company based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and is part of the Tata Group. The core business of the company is to generate, transmit and distribute electricity. With an installed electricity generation capacity of about 8,747 MW, it is India's second largest private power producer. At the end of August 2013, its market capitalisation was $2.74 billion (INR 182 billion).
The firm started as the Tata Hydroelectric Power Supply Company in 1911, which amalgamated with the Andhra Valley Power Supply Company in 1916. It commissioned India’s first large hydro-electric project in 1915 in Khopoli for 72 MW. Then second and third power plants were installed in Bhivpuri (78 MW) in 1919 and Bhira (300 MW) in 1922.
Tata Power has operations in India, Singapore, Indonesia, South Africa and Bhutan. Tata Power Group has its operations based in 35 locations in India.
The thermal power stations of the company are located at Trombay in Mumbai, Mundra in Gujarat, Jojobera and Maithon in Jharkhand, Haldia in West Bengal and Belgaum in Karnataka. The hydro stations are located in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and the wind farms in Ahmednagar, Supa, Khanke, Brahmanwel, Gadag, Samana and Visapur.
The company installed India’s first 500 MW unit at Trombay, the first 150 MW pumped storage unit at Bhira, and a flue gas desulphurization plant for pollution control at Trombay. It has generation capacities in the States of Jharkhand and Karnataka, and a distribution company in Delhi, servicing over one million consumers spread over 510 square km in the North Delhi. The peak load in this area is about 1,150 MW. Tata Power announced on 24 July 2012, commissioning of the second unit of 525 MW capacity of the Maithon mega thermal project in Dhanbad. The first unit of identical capacity was commissioned in September 2011.
Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of India. Delhi is historically and culturally connected to both the Upper Doab of the Yamuna-Ganges river system and the Punjab region. It is bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. It is the largest city in India in terms of geographical area - about 1,484 square kilometres (573 sq mi). It has a population of about 16.3 million, making it the second most populous city and second most populous urban agglomeration in India and 3rd largest urban area in the world. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of about 25 million residents as of 2014.

It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), previously North Delhi Power Limited, is a joint venture between the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and Tata Power Co. Ltd.. A 51% majority stake in the venture is held by Tata Power
It started operations on 1 July 2002 and currently serves 6 million people in the North and North-west parts of Delhi. It has a registered consumer base of 1.40 million. The company’s operations span an area of 510 sq. km. with a recorded peak load of around 1704 MW. It is the only distribution utility to receive the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification, and the only Indian utility to have SA8000 certification.
The company’s distribution automation project is based on systems such as SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), GIS (Geographical Information System), OMS (Outage Management System), DMS (Distribution Management System) and OT’s (Operation Technologies).
The SCADA controlled and unmanned grid stations, GSM based Street Lighting System, SMS based Fault Management System and Automatic Meter Reading employed by the company are all firsts in the capital city area. Modern technologies such as High Voltage Distribution (HVDS) System and LT Arial Bunch Conductor are also being used by them to curb power theft in the region. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd is the first Indian utility to develop and set up Geographical Information System which has seamless integration with SCADA, SAP-ISU and Fixed Asset register. This system has unique mechanism of asset management, complaint management, network planning, etc.
