The Years is a 1937 novel by Virginia Woolf, the last she published in her lifetime. It traces the history of the genteel Pargiter family from the 1880s to the "present day" of the mid-1930s.
Although spanning fifty years, the novel is not epic in scope, focusing instead on the small private details of the characters' lives. Except for the first, each section takes place on a single day of its titular year, and each year is defined by a particular moment in the cycle of seasons. At the beginning of each section, and sometimes as a transition within sections, Woolf describes the changing weather all over Britain, taking in both London and countryside as if in a bird's-eye view before focusing in on her characters. Although these descriptions move across the whole of England in single paragraphs, Woolf only rarely and briefly broadens her view to the world outside Britain.
Video Archives was a video rental store located in Manhattan Beach, California and later moved to Hermosa Beach, California, owned and managed by Lance Lawson and Dennis Humbert.
Director Quentin Tarantino worked there along with documentary filmmaker Daniel Snyder and Roger Avary, the writer, director, and producer with whom Tarantino shared an Academy Award for the Pulp Fiction screenplay.
The store was also frequented by screenwriters Josh Olson (A History of Violence), Jeff Maguire (In the Line of Fire), John Langley (the creator of COPS), and Danny Strong (The Butler, Recount).
"Reelin' in the Years" (sometimes "Reeling in the Years") is a song by jazz rock band Steely Dan, released as the second single from their 1972 album, Can't Buy a Thrill. It reached number 11 in the Billboard charts.
The song was written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and features Fagen on vocals. The song was also a #11 hit on the Pop singles chart in 1973. In March 2005, Q magazine placed the song at number 95 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has reportedly said that Elliott Randall's guitar solo on "Reeling in the Years" is his favorite solo of all time. That solo was also ranked the 40th best guitar solo of all time by the readers of Guitar World magazine. Fagen referred to the song as "dumb but effective" in Rolling Stone magazine. The four-channel Quadrophonic mix of the recording has extra lead guitar fills not heard in the more common two-channel Stereo version.
The song is featured in Rob Zombie's 2005 movie, The Devil's Rejects. It was also used as the theme music for the television series Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive, which aired on BBC Three in the UK. The song was used in the 1999 movie For Love of the Game, the 2014 documentary film Life Itself, and as the theme song to the RTE television show of the same name which is a historical Irish documentary covering one year per episode.
