Art

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts – artworks, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.

The oldest form of art are visual arts, which include creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they usually are not in a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.

Mycole Metcalf

Mycole Alexandria Metcalf (pronounced /maɪˈkoʊl/) is an American actress, writer and film producer. She started acting on the sets of Bug Off and The Sandlot. Since living in Los Angeles, Metcalf has made appearances on House M.D., NYPD Blue and Fast & Furious. She worked with Patrick Fugit on Bickford Shmeckler's Cool Ideas. She starred in Ruthless in Love, My Little Princess and The Way to Paradise.

Early life

Metcalf's mother is of Italian descent and her father carries English, Swedish and French heritage. Her father worked in sales and her mother was a teacher. Her parents divorced while she was young. Metcalf's sister, Mindy, was a make-up artist on one of her first indie films and also for many photo shoots.

Metcalf graduated from the University of Utah, where she performed in college theater productions of See How They Run and Grease.

Career

Early in her career, Metcalf announced the weather on KUTV Channel 2.

Metcalf appeared in many local commercials and Indie films. She worked in clothing print ads for the local ZCMI department stores in Salt Lake City and toured with various theater groups. Her dramatic monologue from Sophie’s Choice impressed many people helping her as she competed and won Miss Utah. Metcalf worked with fellow acting class friend Lindsay Pulsipher in Summer Solstice, one of her first feature films.

Christian Slater

Christian Michael Leonard Slater (born August 18, 1969) is an American actor. He made his film debut with a leading role in the 1985 film The Legend of Billie Jean. He played a monk's apprentice alongside Sean Connery in The Name of the Rose before gaining wider recognition for his breakthrough role in the cult film Heathers.

In the 1990s, Slater starred in many big budget films, including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Broken Arrow, and Hard Rain. He was also featured in the cult film True Romance. Since 2000, Slater has combined work in the film business with television, including appearances in The West Wing and Alias and starring in Breaking In and Mind Games. He currently stars as the title character on the USA Network series Mr. Robot, for which he won his first Golden Globe at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Slater was married to Ryan Haddon between 2000 and 2005, and they had two children together. Slater has had widely publicized brushes with the law, including being sentenced to three months in jail for assault in 1997.

Gleaming the Cube

Gleaming the Cube (also known as A Brother's Justice and Skate or Die) is an American film released in 1989. It featured Christian Slater as Brian Kelly, a 16-year-old skateboarder investigating the death of his adopted Vietnamese brother.

The skating technical advisor for the film was original Z-Boy Stacy Peralta. Among the skateboarders who appear in the film as stunt skaters are Mike McGill, "Gator" Mark Rogowski, Rodney Mullen, Rich Dunlop, Eric Dressen, Lance Mountain, Mike Vallely, Chris Black, Ted Ehr, Natas Kaupas, Chris Borst, and Steve Saiz. Tony Hawk (Buddy), and Tommy Guerrero (Sam) then members of the Bones Brigade, appear in the film as members of Brian's skate crew. Future lead singer of The Aquabats and creator of Yo Gabba Gabba!, Christian Jacobs, also appears in the film as Gremic.

The film received only a moderate release in the United States from 20th Century Fox (in 469 theaters). Although the film had a relatively low box office turnout, it garnered a significant cult following after its theatrical release, through basic cable replays on networks such as USA and the burgeoning VHS (and later DVD) market, as well as among skateboarders.
