NOISE // POWER ELECTRONICS (2nd workshop of Winter Sound School)

Week II of the Winter Sound School takes us into the shadowy world of Power Electronics, the genre that spawned harsh noise. Because it’s important to shit on all the rules of electronic music before you even learn them, here we will learn how to overdrive all our gear to create waves of feedback, atonal sub-bass pulses, chains of distortion, screeching feedback loops, & other fun things.
Guiding us will be two incredible power electronics artists, Shoshana Rosenberg of Biles (Adelaide) & Romy Seven of Scumwitch (Melbourne).

To kick off the Winter Sound School term let’s meet ~the synthesizer~
We’ll go through a lil bit of the history & theory of the synth, & look at parts & functions you’re likely to meet. We’ll ask questions that shouldn’t be so hard to get an answer to – what’s a good first synth? Am I meant to care about analog vs digital? What the hell is that Pulse Code Modulation thing? Why does my synth jus refuse to make noise sometimes? How do I make an authentic Italo disco bassline? There are no dumb questions here.
But most importantly, we’ll just have a collection of synths set up & ready for you to cut sick on. Synth apps & software synths will be set up too so you can try out stuff you can download straight away if you’re hooked. If you’re already a synth Super Saiyan & wanna bring in your own beloved/s to show & tell, you definitely should!

Wrenchworthy Bicycle Shed is an autonomous space for women, non-binary and gender diverse people interested in bike maintenance and learning how to fix bikes.
We aim to be a positively pro-trans, pro-queer space. We endeavour that anyone who does not identify as a cisgender man will be made to feel welcome.
It is a space where people can learn, teach, share knowledge and skills about bicycle maintenance while being able to access tools that they might not have at home.

Bike shops and tyre shops are chucking out their used tyre tubes daily and will live the rest of eternity in a tip. We can stop this madness and collect the tubes and use them in all kinds of ways. We can make anything from jewellery, bags, back packs, wallets, drink bottle holders, farshun, tool holders, etc and is a great alternative to leather. Its really simple and fun to use. All you need is your imagination and you can make just about anything your heart desires!
Tools and materials will be provided but you are invited to bring any tools you may have such as hole punchers and scissors as well as any materials you would like to enhance your design
