Ljubljana is the capital of the young republic of Slovenia, a city of culture and history, elegance and charm. It is Slovenia’s ‘Florence’ situated between the Alps and the Balkans, the Adriatic and Lake Balaton. The Old Place, with a monument of national poet, Prešeren, is the gateway to the Old Town. With its pink marble façade, the Early Baroque Franciscan Church Of Mary dominates the square. The Dom Church Stolnica was built according to the design of Venetian, Andrea Pozzo in the 17th century. The interior of this Baroque church is quite overwhelming and with great attention to detail. Situated on the four hundred metre high Castle Hill, the Slovenian Acropolis was once inhabited by the Illyrians and Celts. The Roman watchtower later became both a strategic fortress and castle. A triumphal arch marks the entrance to the Žale Cemetery on the northeast edge of the city with a number of fine, richly decorated chapels. Here Jože Plečnik created a masterpiece that represented the transition from the world of the living, to the world of the dead. Columns flank the main path up to Tivoli Castle that was built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and soon became a summer residence of the bishops. Romantic lakes with water fowl and pretty flowers embellish the park, once the home of Field Marshal Radetzky. Ljubljana is a city of joie de vivre and pleasure where the Middle Ages, Baroque and Art Nouveau meet with the relaxed lifestyle of the south!

Those that live in Slovenia's capital and its numerous visitors say that Ljubljana is a city tailor-made for people.
Ljubljana is the political and cultural heart of the Slovenian nation. It is an important European commercial, business, exhibition and congressional centre as well as the transport, science and education centre of Slovenia.
A people-friendly city
As its inhabitants and numerous visitors will tell you, Ljubljana is, indeed, a people-friendly city. Categorised as a medium-sized European city, it offers everything a metropolis does yet preserves its small-town friendliness.
Its geographical position in the centre of Europe has determined Ljubljana as a natural meeting place for merchants and soldiers as well as - and more than once - peacemakers. The victors of the Napoleonic wars selected this peaceful city as the site of the Holy Alliance congress, which in 1821 sealed the European political geography for years to come.
The old meets the new
In Ljubljana the old meets the new; and it seems that history has spent all of the settlement's five millennia preparing it to become the nation's capital. It has managed to retain traces from all periods of its rich history; from the legacy of Roman Emona; through to the Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau periods characterised in the house fronts and ornate doorways of the city centre, the romantic bridges adorning the Ljubljanica river, the lopsided rooftops and a park reaching deep into the city centre. Here eastern and western cultures met; and the Italian concept of art combined with the sculptural aesthetics of Central European cathedrals.
A city of culture
Ljubljana is a city of culture. It is home to numerous theatres, museums and galleries, and boasts one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in the world. The first music society in Slovenia, the Academia philharmonicorum, was founded in 1701. It was a vehicle for baroque music and also facilitated the development of musical production in this region. Its honorary members included such renowned composers as Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, and distinguished musicians such as the violinist Nicolo Paganini. Between 1881 and 1882, at the very start of his career, Gustav Mahler was its resident conductor.
For the people of Ljubljana culture is a way of living and thinking and is very much a part of everyday life. Over 10,000 cultural events take place in the city every year, among which there are 10 international festivals. The inhabitants of Ljubljana and its visitors can admire artists from all the different fields - from music, theatre and fine arts to the alternative and avant-garde. In warmer months, the tables and chairs of the numerous cafés fill the banks of the Ljubljanica and the old city markets. It is here, after an almost obligatory Saturday visit to the Ljubljana market or the Sunday flea market, that the locals meet for a morning coffee or for an evening chat with friends.

Ljubljana
Ljubljana (Slovene: [ljuˈbljàːna];[luˈblàːna], also known by other alternative names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. During antiquity, it was the site of a Roman city called Emona. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
Situated at the middle of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, it was the historical capital of Carniola, a Slovene-inhabited part of the Habsburg Monarchy, and it has been the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991. A triumphal arch marks the entrance to the Žale Cemetery on the northeast edge of the city with a number of fine, richly decorated chapels. Columns flank the main path up to Tivoli Castle that was built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and soon became a summer residence of the bishops. Romantic lakes with water fowl and pretty flowers embellish the park, once the home of Field Marshal Radetzky. Ljubljana is a city of joie de vivre and pleasure where the Middle Ages, Baroque and Art Nouveau meet with the relaxed lifestyle of the south!

Ljubljana is the political, scientific and cultural centre of the Slovenian nation and, with just over 280,000 residents, is at the same time Slovenia's biggest city and its most important commercial centre.
Those that live in Slovenia's capital and its numerous visitors say that Ljubljana is a city tailor-made for people.
Ljubljana is the political and cultural heart of the Slovenian nation. It is an important European commercial, business, exhibition and congressional centre as well as the transport, science and education centre of Slovenia.
A people-friendly city
As its inhabitants and numerous visitors will tell you, Ljubljana is, indeed, a people-friendly city. Categorised as a medium-sized European city, it offers everything a metropolis does yet preserves its small-town friendliness.
Its geographical position in the centre of Europe has determined Ljubljana as a natural meeting place for merchants and soldiers as well as - and more than once - peacemakers. The victors of the Napoleonic wars selected this peaceful city as the site of the Holy Alliance congress, which in 1821 sealed the European political geography for years to come.
The old meets the new
In Ljubljana the old meets the new; and it seems that history has spent all of the settlement's five millennia preparing it to become the nation's capital. It has managed to retain traces from all periods of its rich history; from the legacy of Roman Emona; through to the Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau periods characterised in the house fronts and ornate doorways of the city centre, the romantic bridges adorning the Ljubljanica river, the lopsided rooftops and a park reaching deep into the city centre. Here eastern and western cultures met; and the Italian concept of art combined with the sculptural aesthetics of Central European cathedrals.

Ljubljana is a city of culture. It is home to numerous theatres, museums and galleries, and boasts one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in the world. The first music society in Slovenia, the Academia philharmonicorum, was founded in 1701. It was a vehicle for baroque music and also facilitated the development of musical production in this region. Its honorary members included such renowned composers as Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms, and distinguished musicians such as the violinist Nicolo Paganini. Between 1881 and 1882, at the very start of his career, Gustav Mahler was its resident conductor.
For the people of Ljubljana culture is a way of living and thinking and is very much a part of everyday life. Over 10,000 cultural events take place in the city every year, among which there are 10 international festivals. The inhabitants of Ljubljana and its visitors can admire artists from all the different fields - from music, theatre and fine arts to the alternative and avant-garde. In warmer months, the tables and chairs of the numerous cafés fill the banks of the Ljubljanica and the old city markets. It is here, after an almost obligatory Saturday visit to the Ljubljana market or the Sunday flea market, that the locals meet for a morning coffee or for an evening chat with friends.

We want to share with you our loving relationship, our student lives as well as our home, which is actually all the way in Bahrain, in the Middle East! Visit Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, and explore the places in its surroundings.
Besides having everything that all the other modern capitals have, Ljubljana succeeded in maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a small city. This picturesque and very vibrant city is full of surprises. The region that besides Ljubljana comprises 25 other municipalities is noted for its traditional hospitality, diverse nature, nice towns, castles, quality traditional restaurants and village churches with their rich artistic legacy.
The Central Slovenia is the place where the alpine and karst landscapes meet. Thus, various unique natural and cultural particularities were created. Some of these are the Ljubljana Marshes, an area of wetlands and peat bogs known for its prehistoric pile dwellers and for its rare animal and vegetal species, the high mountain plateau Velika planina situated in the Kamnik Alps, noted for its ski centre and for being the oldest dairy herdsmen’s settlement in Europe, interesting subterranean caves, karstic fields and the mysterious forests of the Polhov Gradec and Posavje hills that abound with tourist farms.
You will definitely not be bored. The various cultural events are marked by the richness of the tradition as well as by the modern creativity. Forests, rivers and lakes offer great possibilities of an active holiday in the open air. You can choose between hiking, cycling, exploring the nature, hunting, fishing and during the winter, also between skiing and cross-country skiing. There are also some well-maintained golf courses.
Ljubljana and the Central Slovenia region are a perfect destination for relaxed and active holidays.

Named after the renowned Slovenian poet, the Preseren Square is still the lively pulsating heart and turning point in the historic part of town.
Architecturally and historically most significant structures are snuggled within a 2-kilometre radius of the Preseren Monument.
Simple public transportation provides for effortless accessibility. A slow train brings the sightseers comfortably to the castle hovering over the city. The ride includes crossing the centrally located Tromostovje -- a web of three bridges.
The caste dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. From here one has a wonderful view of the city and far beyond.
A great part of the city life takes place near the river. While strolling along the Lubljanica, soundlessly flowing through the city, one should take time and wander off into the ancient streets. Booksellers, cafés and relentless saunters animate the cityscape all year round.
Street musicians, often boasting a distinctly higher quality standard as those of other world capitals, and the open market, reflect the inhabitants' cultural agility and a sense for the mercantile.
Come nightfall and Ljubljana reveals its Mediterranean charm: street cafes, restaurants and bars are always brimming with life. The din from the thronged promenades resounds through out the city.
