About Great Wall

The brand named after China’s famous fortification has a significantly shorter history, having been formed only in 1984. Its first product was a truck, and it went on to establish itself as a leader in the pick-up and SUV markets, with the latter including its Haval sub-brand. Great Wall became the first Chinese auto brand to become a public company when it listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2003, and three years later it started selling vehicles in Europe. In 2009 Great Wall Motors was brought to Australia by independent distributor Ateco Automotive – the first in a new wave of Chinese brands taking on Australia’s highly competitive market. It initially sold only the V series ute before following by the X series SUV. GWM announced in 2014 that it would bring its Haval SUV brand here from 2015.
