Access to healthy, nutritious food is essential to improve the well-being and quality of life of current and future generations. The food we eat is vital for sustaining healthy, productive lives, but as you eat your next meal pause to think about how producers can get this food to you while still protecting our life-supporting ecosystems. Think about what it means to have sustainable food systems. At Arizona State University we have an incredible capacity for finding solutions to sustainability challenges. Over 400 scientists and scholars across the university are dedicated to this field. These scientists and scholars work hand-in-hand with diverse communities around the globe to: Create new market models to get healthy food from farmers to consumers. Help farmers and agencies forecast and adapt to climate impacts. Increase global food production while preserving soil health. Improve health and nutrition while considering cultural influences. Help partners integrate technology and entrepreneurship. With our teaching we challenge a new generation of learners, who are passionate about nutrition and food security, to think beyond agriculture and technology. Our campus-wide certificate in sustainable food systems ensures students consider ethics, supply chains, culture, and entrepreneurship in their projects, internships and community service. To create sustainable solutions at a national and global scale, we must work together. Through our distinctive approach, we will accomplish three main objectives: Launch a Food Incubator of thought leaders, businesses, and investors to inspire the next generation of food entrepreneurs. Convene experts from across food sectors to design cutting edge interventions. Educate learners of all ages for whom profit means prosperity for our planet and our people.
