Loch Fleet
Loch Fleet (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Fleòid) is a sea loch on the east coast of Scotland, located between Golspie and Dornoch. It forms the estuary of the River Fleet, a small spate river that rises in the hills east of Lairg.
Geography and geology
Loch Fleet is a shallow, bar-built estuary with extensive sand-flats and mud-flats backed by saltmarsh and sand dunes.
Flora and fauna
On 24 March 1997, the Dornoch Firth and Loch Fleet Special Protection Area (SPA) was established for wildlife conservation. The SPA covers 7,836.33 hectares (19,364 acres) of Loch Fleet, the Dornoch Firth, Morrich More, the Mound Alderwoods and Tarbat Ness. The Joint Nature Conservation Committee described it as "one of the best examples in northwest Europe of a large complex estuary which has been relatively unaffected by industrial development".

Hope you're all ok. Dornoch is a coastal, seaside town in the Scottish Highlands, located on the east coast of Scotland. It's a very pretty place with lots to do in and around the town. In this video I visit beautiful Dornoch Beach, explore the town and finish off with a visit to the wonderful Loch Fleet Nature Reserve. Unfortunately, it rained most of the day and was quite windy, which made filming really difficult, but I persevered and still really enjoyed it. The Seals at Loch Fleet in Sutherland, Scotland.
Video of one group of seals at Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve near Dornoch, Sutherland. This was early one morning and the rising sun highlighted the patterns in the sandbanks perfectly. Most of the seals had hauled out onto the sands but a few were swimming about while the tide was still on the way out into the Dornoch Firth. *Please note that the "zoom in" effects were created with software and not by going down closer to the seals so as not to disturb them. Video of one group of seals at Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve near Dornoch, Sutherland. This was early one morning and the rising sun highlighted the patterns in the sandbanks perfectly.
Most of the seals had hauled out onto the sands but a few were swimming about while the tide was still on the way out into the Dornoch Firth.
*Please note that the "zoom in" effects were created with software and not by going down closer to the seals so as not to disturb them.

This is Day 4, part 1 of our Scotland North Coast 500, or NC500, trip in a campervan. Today starts with iced coffee with Loch Fleet Harbour Seals as we stop by to see Skelbo Castle ruins, then on to Dunrobin Castle, a french chateau-like castle with extensive gardens. We get gorgeous views of Loch Fleet with our DJI Mavic Mini drone.

Loch Fleet
Loch Fleet (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Fleòid) is a sea loch on the east coast of Scotland, located between Golspie and Dornoch. It forms the estuary of the River Fleet, a small spate river that rises in the hills east of Lairg.
Geography and geology
Loch Fleet is a shallow, bar-built estuary with extensive sand-flats and mud-flats backed by saltmarsh and sand dunes.
Flora and fauna
On 24 March 1997, the Dornoch Firth and Loch Fleet Special Protection Area (SPA) was established for wildlife conservation. The SPA covers 7,836.33 hectares (19,364 acres) of Loch Fleet, the Dornoch Firth, Morrich More, the Mound Alderwoods and Tarbat Ness. The Joint Nature Conservation Committee described it as "one of the best examples in northwest Europe of a large complex estuary which has been relatively unaffected by industrial development".
