TVCRIME band logo

Band name:
TV CRIME

Date & location formed:
Nottingham ENGLAND 2016.

Reason for forming:
An insatiable desire to show off in front of our mate’s mate’s mates, buy that new leather jacket. Piss off the neighbours, annoy mum and dad. Do loads of boshing.

What are your lyrics about?
Good times/Bad times/Football Hooligans/UFO’s. The usual non-sense!

How would you describe your sound?
Killer tunes/shitty attitude.

What’s in the future for this band?
We are the future, we’re just caught up in the past. Plus the usual stuff/Records/Tours/A picture disc/ That new leather jacket? Fish n chips on friday. Up the boshers!

nosebleed band logo

Band name:
NOSEBLEED
Valentina-vox, Z-guitar, Marcus-bass, Ian-drums.

Date & location formed:
The band had been an idea since early 2015 between Z and V, coming into fruition during the tail-end of 2015 when Marcus and Ian joined. We’ve been playing shows since the Fall/Winter of that year. We all live in Richmond, VA.

Reason for forming:
We’re all friends and have known each other for a while through hardcore/punk shows in Richmond, and we wanted to start a new band. A lot of great new bands are coming out of Richmond, and we all want to be involved in what’s currently going on.

What are your lyrics about?
Anger, social and subcultural disenchantment, rejecting oppressive standards, depression, despair, revenge.

Nosebleed (photo by Jake Cunningham)

Nosebleed at Lovejail, May 13th, 2016 (photo by Jake Cunningham)

How would you describe your sound?
Raw, visceral d-beat with roots in nihilistic hardcore punk.

What’s in the future for this band?
We have plans on releasing a 7″ and a little touring on the East Coast.

tumbas band Logo

Band name:
TUMBAS

Date & location formed:
2015 in Bogotá, Colombia.

Reason for forming:
We wanted to create a band that made something different from the others and something we really enjoyed as friends.

What are your lyrics about?
About what we are feeling by the time we write them, our worldview and what we want to take off our chests.

How would you describe your sound?
A mixture of our members’ tastes: 80’s punk, post-punk, dark punk, deathrock.

What’s in the future for this band?
We want to continue doing what we love, playing the music we like and creating new sound. We also hope to play in other countries.

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
LEATHER JACUZZI

Date & location formed:
Formed in Calgary, AB Canada in June of 2016, with our tape (Monsters, Narcs and Idiots) being written, recorded and released in time for our first show at the end of July 2016. It’s been a real goddamned whirlwind.

Reason for forming:
Three of the four members live in Calgary and do time in more established acts: Craig (guitar) is the front man for Feel Alright; Brady (bass) holds the same position in The Mandates; and Michael (drums) plays in so many bands it’s hard to keep track, but most notably Blü Shorts and Gawker. Sarah (vocals) lives in Toronto and only had the summer to hang out, and this band is essentially all about hanging out. When you have 6 weeks to do something, it can be way easier to motivate yourself to get together and punch out as much as possible. We also like to party, and this was an excellent way to do that.

Leather Jacuzzi (photo by Little Matty Learoyd)

Leather Jacuzzi (photo by Little Matty Learoyd)

What are your lyrics about?
Piss tasting, an alternate reality where prohibition never ended, trying to relax, fucking. You know. Normal, every day life.

How would you describe your sound?
Definitely influenced by disaffected young men, most notably Angry Samoans and Zero Boys, but also kind of shitting on that. It can be difficult to take that early macho hardcore stuff seriously, but the songs sound real cool so why not rip on it a bit?

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re going to write and record a new album in December, which will be called “Slander, Lies and Soda.” Planet of the Tapes is also going to put out a much larger run of our first tape, and that should be coming together this fall. It’s up for free on our bandcamp right now. Maybe we’ll even make some fuckin’ t-shirts or something.

Band name:
NACHTHEXEN

Date & location formed:
August 2015, Sheffield, Audacious Art Experiment.

Reason for forming:
Most of us have played in other bands but wanted to make music with close friends that was different to what’s around in Sheffield at the moment.

Nachthexen (photo by Déé X Géé)

Nachthexen (photo by Déé X Géé)

What are your lyrics about?
Social anxiety, mental health and the experience of being a woman.

How would you describe your sound?
Disco punk!

What’s in the future for this band?
We’ve just come back from tour and are getting excited to start writing for a longer release

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
FAZE

Date & location formed:
The beginning of 2016, Winter in Montreal.

Reason for forming:
Just to have a fresh start from all the old stuff we had been working on… and to dance…

What are your lyrics about?
Stress, stress management, the lack of ability to manage stress, and anxiety.

Faze (photo by Clifford)

Faze (photo by Clifford)

How would you describe your sound?
We’re all into different stuff… so it kind of all comes together into this loud delayed mix of aggressive weird post gnar noise psych punk?

What’s in the future for this band?
Just to play everywhere we can, and to keep writing new stuff. Who knows… maybe one day we’ll get a smoke machine…

unnamed

Band name:
PANDEMIX

Date & location formed:
Boston, MA, January 2016.

Reason for forming:
I (Shannon) met Tommy in 2007 at a Pist reunion gig and knew we would start a band together someday. He had a dread hawk, I had daisy dukes with a Charles Bronson patch on the butt.

What are your lyrics about?
The paranoia of inhabiting a social world crumbling under the weight of consumer commodification. Medical debt. Mental health. The constant emotional and psychological violence endemic to being a woman. How even when white folks attempt to destabilize white supremacy, we continue to benefit from it.

How would you describe your sound?
Hardcore/peace punk.

bleeders band logo

Band name:
BLEEDERS

Date & location formed:
Winter 2015 in Kutztown, PA.

Reason for forming:
A little while after Matt and Kay dissolved their previous band, I heard them jamming in the basement of the house we were renting together at the time. I figured it’d be fun to sing in a dumb band with my dumb friends.

What are your lyrics about?
Sexual predators, abusers, mansplainers, sexual sadists, narcissists–mostly misogynists I’ve met, and so-called “progressive” scumbags with ulterior motives. But we also have some happy(ish) songs in the works about supporting gay men, destigmatizing menstruation, and destigmatizing abortion.

bleeders band photo

How would you describe your sound?
We originally had more of a Z-beat sound, but now we’re leaning more towards gash rock/melodic boobcore.

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re recording all of our songs in the next few weeks. At this point, we now have a bassist and a second drummer, so the new and improved versions of the old shit will be uploaded to our bandcamp along with our new tracks. Gonna make some tapes, play some shows, continue bangin’ out hits, et cetera.

“New Blood” is our weekly feature spotlighting new bands from around the world! See below for info on how to submit. Now, check out some killer new shit…

Band name:
BURP!

Date & location formed:
May 2015, Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Reason for forming:
We listened to a bunch of NWI punk music that was coming out at the time, Big Zit, Ooze, etc, and decided we wanted to make something in the same vein.

What are your lyrics about?
Mostly just being a curmudgeon, complaining about shit that everyone else complains about, but trying to do it in a catchy way. Our hometown, internet drama, weed-induced anxiety attacks, awful jobs, etc.

BURP! (photo by KT Kanazawich)

BURP! (photo by KT Kanazawich)

How would you describe your sound?
Most people have said we have a similar sound to old school KBD records bands… Just snotty punk stuff, lots of attitude followed by riffs that’ll get stuck in your head.

What’s in the future for this band?
We broke up in June 2016, our final show was the PUNKS FOR PAWS benefit gig in Philadelphia. Everyone in the band sort of branched off and are now doing their own things. Kody fronts Body Party and plays guitar in N.E.G., Matt plays drums in Bleeders, Corey produces house music, Noah has several new projects in the works.

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
MATERIAL SUPPORT

Date & location formed:
September 2015, Queens, NY.

Reason for forming:
The Filipino punk scene in NYC is really small. Gary from Kadena introduced all of us at Namatay Sa Ingay’s (AJ and Simon’s other band) first show at the Ding Dong Lounge in 2014. We hit it off and Miles and Jackie mentioned they wanted to play in a political punk band named after an anti-terrorism law. AJ and Simon were down. We jammed and it sounded alright, so we kept playing together.

Material Support (photo by Jjca Photography)

Material Support (photo by Jjca Photography)

What are your lyrics about?
Our members are recent law grads and/or in the Filipino diaspora. Lyrics are political, but not the typical “burn all the cop cars” stuff. We’ve got songs about cops, war, gentrification, and racism, but also third-world feminism and liberation. The songs also alternate from English to Tagalog and reflect the struggles of various communities that we represent and fight for.

How would you describe your sound?
This awesome dude at our label said we were D.C. post-punk meets L.A. proto-hardcore. But we didn’t really know what that meant. Jackie doesn’t really listen to punk, so our songs don’t fit typical molds because she has no reference to the music besides Bikini Kill and hardcore bands she hates. We’re into lots of different things including T.S.O.L., Chumbawumba, and Filipina Broadway star Lea Salonga (Les Miserables).

What’s in the future for this band?
Making more music, recording our full-length, playing more shows because Jackie and Miles just graduated and are unemployed. We want to build the Filipin@ punk scene in NYC and across the US with the help of our community and our label Aklasan Records.

Band name:
THE VITAMENS, daddy!the vitamens band logo

Date & location formed:
February of 2016, mama!

Reason for forming:
Barrett (bass) was concerned about his mobility after receiving multiple botox injections inside his calves (to increase his ALREADY impressive height)- the rest just came naturally, baby!

What are your lyrics about?
Our lyrics are fucking stupid. Broken friendships, sex, addiction, and blatant aggression, honey!

How would you describe your sound?
Our sound? Not great, playing these songs sometimes makes my stomach hurt. :(

What’s in the future for this band?
We’re supposed to be putting out a single of new songs. We also have plans for a winter west coast tour with another Kansas City band, AGENT. Other than that 2 of our members will be living in Olympia so who knows!

Links and contact info:

barbed-wire-500x12

Band name:
THE DRIPPIES

Date & location formed:
October 2015 at the Bong House, KCMO.

Reason for forming:
we were all cross faded in our living room listening to KBD records and decided it would be cool to be a band.

What are your lyrics about?
Being a degenerate, people that we don’t like, crime, drugs, being a basket case, y’know. shit like that.

How would you describe your sound?
If Protex and the Stooges had a dumpster baby that did a lot of DMT when it got older.

What’s in the future for this band?
We just recorded a new 7 inch that should hopefully be out in a few months, hopefully another record and a west cost tour in 2017.

Mirror (photo by HDF)

Band name:
MIRROR

Date & location formed:
April 2015 in Austin, TX, via Saturn.

Reason for forming:
To reflect society’s ills through the power of sensual glam rock.

What are your lyrics about?
Many topics including fragile egg men, canabalism, radiation, licking boots, and Comte de lautreamont.

How would you describe your sound?
Space ritual of the tupa-tupa.

What’s in the future for this band?
About to release a 7″ on erste theke tonträger and possibly tour Mexico/Midwest.

Band name:
86 GEMINI

Date & location formed:
Early 2015, played our first show in August.

86 Gemini (photo by Maddie Rehayem)

86 Gemini (photo by Maddie Rehayem)

Reason for forming:
A need to create and move the body with friends.

What are your lyrics about?
Entropy, acceleration towards the void, seeing a darkness in the species, cycles of shame, indulgence, and repression, mass self-denial and destruction, the human wad, the collective consciousness, energy, movement, power, love, suffering, memories, and finding pleasure and beauty in all of the above.

How would you describe your sound?
Holing up in your room all winter eating acid listening to Bastard and GISM while you surf craigslist for pervert money.

What’s in the future for this band?
West coast tour in August. 7″ coming out eventually on High Fashion Industries (Frankl’s vision), a track on a Cretins of Distortion compilation, another tour hopefully with our Nebraskan soulmates through middle America, and some day a VHS-EP.

Band name:
WÄRFEAR

Wärfear (photo by Nurmaisarah Mokhtar)

Wärfear (photo by Nurmaisarah Mokhtar)

Date & location formed:
Formed sometime in January 2016, Malacca, Malaysia.

Reason for forming:
It’s hard to say. We just think that we need to play something pure and honest. I personally love simple punk riffs with angry, driven vocals. That’s all.

What are your lyrics about?
Same old shit. War, corruption, state control, politics.

How would you describe your sound?
Crust punk.

What’s in the future for this band?
We have just released a demo tape last May 2016. Currently planning for some short tours interstate, then we’ll probably record some new shit for 7″.

rare form logo

Band name:
RARE FORM

Date & location formed:
December 2015, New Haven, Connecticut.

Reason for forming:
Me and our drummer’s old band had just broken up and we wanted to start a completely different band. I had always wanted to front a hardcore band, and my roommate had just started learning bass so that was a no brainer.

What are your lyrics about?
My experiences as a woman in the world and in the hardcore scene mostly, but also other subjects such as losing friends, politics, etc.

Rare Form (photo by Dan Patrick)

Rare Form (photo by Dan Patrick)

How would you describe your sound?
Energetic punk you can mosh to. we all listen to a wide variety of bands so it’s kind of a mix of all our favorite subgenres. we just play what we think sounds cool.

What’s in the future for this band?
We just put out our demo, we’re gonna get some tapes made of that. we’re hoping to do a weekend tour sometime soon, I would love to do a longer tour with another cool band. we’ve already been working on some new songs! hoping to play lots of shows next year, maybe a fest or something. hit us up!

nopes band logo

Band name:
NOPES

Date & location formed:
Late 2014/ early 2015.

Reason for forming:
We all have shitty day jobs, from which needed some release. We all really wanted to play something noisy, fast, and loud that people would either hate or (hopefully) love.

What are your lyrics about?
Shitty day jobs, scraping by in the city, banh mi’s and death.

How would you describe your sound?
Herky jerky fringe arena punk.
