The night before our 2010 Project-JK Rockin Rubicon Trail Run, I asked my friend Tom why he wanted to run this trail and he casually responded that "if you want to be an accomplished four wheeler, there are a few places in this world you have to go and one is the Rubicon." Crossing through the El Dorado National Forest up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Rubicon Trail is truly one of the most beautiful ones I've been on bar none. Of course, its unrelenting 22 miles of boulders that need to be crawled, steep ledges that need to be climbed, narrow trees that need to be squeezed between, deep muddy water crossings that need to be forded and tippy off camber terrain that needs to be carefully negotiated is ultimately what makes the Rubicon Trail so legendary and famous around the world.
Originally made as a single half hour video, RUBICON : A Legendary Jeep Trail & Off-Road Adventure has been broken down into a 3 part series, each approximately 10 minutes long and so that it could be broadcasted on YouTube. In this first episode, you will see where our adventures began in South Lake Tahoe, our road trip down to the Loon Lake Staging Area, our crawl through the Gatekeeper, descent into the Granite Bowl and climb up Walker Hill and all before tragedy strikes.
More than just a Jeep, it's a way of life!

My latest unboxing video is here... the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon! I'm really excited to talk about this because I'm originally from Toledo, Ohio - the home of the Jeep Wrangler for decades. The Wrangler Unlimited is, of course, the four-door version and it's the one I'd prefer to have for several reasons, which I'll discuss in this video.
Currently, all Wranglers come powered by a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can get either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. So why do so many people buy Wranglers? Because off-roading and rock crawling. In many ways, the Wrangler is the all-American SUV and its timeless design has never looked better.

Rubicon
The Rubicon (Latin: Rubico, Italian: Rubicone) is both the name of a shallow river in northeastern Italy, just south of Ravenna, and the name historically given to a river that was famously crossed by Julius Caesar in 49 B.C. While it has not been proven, historians generally agree that the two rivers are indeed one and the same; this was not always the case.
The modern-day river runs for about 80 kilometers, from the Apennine Mountains to the Adriatic Sea through the southern Emilia-Romagna region, between the towns of Rimini and Cesena. The Latin word rubico comes from the adjective rubeus, meaning "red". The river was so named because its waters are colored red by mud deposits.
History
During the Roman republic, the river Rubicon marked the boundary between the Roman province of Cisalpine Gaul to the north-east and Italy proper (controlled directly by Rome and its socii (allies)) to the south. On the north-western side, the border was marked by the river Arno, a much wider and more important waterway, which flows westward from the Apennine Mountains (its source is not far from Rubicon's source) into the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Crossing through the El Dorado National Forest up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Rubicon Trail is truly one of the most beautiful ones I've been on bar none. My latest unboxing video is here... the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon! I'm really excited to talk about this because I'm originally from Toledo, Ohio - the home of the Jeep Wrangler for decades. The Wrangler Unlimited is, of course, the four-door version and it's the one I'd prefer to have for several reasons, which I'll discuss in this video. Currently, all Wranglers come powered by a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can get either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. So why do so many people buy Wranglers? Rubicon Trail Hiking through D.L. Bliss State Park - Lake Tahoe, CA
The Rubicon Trail is a delightful easy hike that includes level walking, stunning views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe, and quiet forests along the way. It can be done as a long 8 mile round trip or, by shuttling a car, as a pleasant 4 mile jaunt. In the spring, snow plants push their way through the duff to add a splash of red to the constant blue, green and brown landscape. Emerald Bay is located a few miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89 and D.L. Bliss State Park just 4miles beyond that. This trail can be started at either end. To hike one direction, shuttle a car to D. L Bliss State Park (fee required) making sure to park in the lot closest to the trail head as the walk back to the entrance station from the trail is 2 miles of steady climbing.
