Spoiler alert: the best way to save money is by not spending it. Which, in terms of advice, is about as practical as pointing out you'll lose weight if you starve. So what about all the other money saving bargains we keep reading about and, spot the irony here, sold on a regular basis?
MEXICO CITY -- Hola from Mexico. I'm here with our international team for the launch of HuffPost Mexico, the 15th edition of The Huffington Post outside the United States. It's the latest milestone in our international expansion, which began in 2011 with the launch of HuffPost Canada. It's also a special moment for me, as it's the last launch I'll oversee as HuffPost's editor-in-chief before moving on to launch Thrive Global.
It must be about a year ago that I received the extraordinary letter from Francesca Dow, the director of Penguin/Random House children's books. It was about a story by Beatrix Potter which she had never illustrated. It was called The Tale of Kitty in Boots and included with the letter was a facsimile of the original manuscript. Would I like to illustrate it?
These measures, as part of Jeremy's 10 pledges, present a blueprint to tackle the structural inequalities, barriers and prejudices facing women from all backgrounds, throughout their lives...now we need to ensure its implementation by re-electing Jeremy as leader.
A Shareholder Committee (SC) should be mandatory for all UK main-market public companies, comprising the largest five shareholders. If a shareholder declined the option of taking their seat, it would pass to the next largest shareholder.
It was during the referendum campaign, when the stakes were so high, and at the two-and-half hour shadow cabinet meeting on June 24th that my growing concern, tinged with exasperation, turned into despair.
One week I sat up straight, after a particularly intense session on a spine corrector machine and began to cry. My mind flooded with a painful memory from my childhood which I thought was long buried and forgotten. At first I felt confused and a little embarrassed by my reaction, but that was quickly overruled by the great sense of relief that I felt.
Both campaigns have deliberately bypassed rational argument. They play instead to the emotional response of angry people for whom reason no longer makes sense. Since the time of Plato and Aristotle, democracy's critics have warned of the ease with which reason can be subverted and citizens seduced by the false oratory of charismatic leaders.
We are floating at 33°14'88.8" North, 13° 22'51.8" East, in the Mediterranean sea, about 20 nautical miles east of Tripoli, Libya. Out of my porthole I can see another magnificent sunset; the sea reflecting the sun's dying rays to create a deep, orange glow. Up on deck there is nothing but sea in every direction.
And so it was, Mel and Sue were Mel and Sue-less. It felt wrong. It would be like Lennon without McCartney. Jerry without Ben. And within approx. 3.5 minutes we were used to it and would be fine if the BBC were to fire Sue due to cuts.
Some of losing these things is just growing up. It's a natural part of life. But it's almost as though cancer came into my life and slowly took my interests, and what made me 'me', erasing them from my life one by one.
I think it's about time the mainstream bookshelves reflected the mix and diversity that actually exists in society. I think it's time that diverse characters, with racially diverse backgrounds and parentage and histories, finally found their way onto our contemporary bookshelves in the 'main' sections.
Social media companies have shown a willingness to work with governments and law enforcement in the past, and streamlining and improving this relationship is crucial. Unrealistic expectations do little to improve this relationship though, and some of the criticisms laid out in the report do seem unrealistic.
After a season of sweeping teams away with their relentless attacking display for the majority of last season, there was great intrigue into how Spurs might fare in 2016/17 without the services of Mousa Dembele: a fundamental puzzle piece of the team's success in the last campaign. So far the signs are not looking too good.
I want to help remove the stigma around deaths from drug overdose. I find it hard to tell someone that my children have died - it's a conversation stopper. But when I tell them it was caused by drug overdose, that's harder still.
A clear, standalone goal for water and sanitation and the recognition in the other goals of the fundamental nature of Goal 6 was essential to achieve the scale of ambition needed to eradicate extreme poverty.
On average, women in paid work receive about 18% less per hour than men...so here are four very important actions we (individuals, companies, government) can take to accelerate this desperately needed change:
The UK is in a mental health crisis. Millions of people all across the country suffer in some way with mental health issues. In treatment they face long waits and insufficient care. Many regions are without the correct services to treat people. People are misdiagnosed and ignored.
Yes, I'm hideously jealous of children. When you're a kid it's all about the present moment. And they don't just expect joy, they demand it. How many times do you hear that high-pitched cry of "but I want it now!" when you're trying to enjoy your red wine in peace? But enough about church.
Is there a lesson here for the health sector? We speak of assets that could be better utilised or deployed, such as NHS estates or even certain arms of the workforce, but seem to ignore our most gamechanging asset: the smartphone.
Sociologists typically look at the sandwich generation as an ageing phenomenon but, for me, the experience hit me too young. It is only recently that life has started to re-find its equilibrium. Mum's recovery has been slow and taken huge bravery on her part.
So, my point here is that as the partner of a parent at home, you, whether you realise it or not, provide much of that validation. Next to our children, you are the most important people in our lives. You are the other half of this parenting team and your opinion means a LOT
The actual problem at hand, that perhaps someone could shed light on, is this internalised archaic colonial fetishization, that we are shockingly still forced to be a part of in 2016. There is a multitude of Muslim women with a multitude of firm voices ready to share a multitude of opinions because we are not a homogenous group, you are all just speaking too loudly over us to hear any of it.
