The 50 or so squatters, including children, who are occupying 14 houses, held a street festival in bright sunshine, two days after learning they would not be forcibly evicted for the next three weeks. Homeless woman Angela Edwards says squatting in a house in Bendigo Street, Collingwood, is giving her somewhere to spend precious time with her grandchildren.
Groups including the United Patriots Front are protesting at Melton South's Hannah Watts Park against a development reportedly known as Iqra Village. Protesters claim the 75-lot development being built off Coburns Road in Melton South is a Muslim housing estate.
